Career planning is a process and requires much effort on your part. Internship & Career Services can help to get you started on the road to planning your career by following some of these general guidelines found in the links below. We recommend that you meet regularly with your academic advisor and periodically with a counselor in our office to help you with career planning. Resources to learn more about yourself

Before learning about majors and careers, we recommend that you take time to do some soul searching in the form of a self-assessment. Visit Internship & Career Services to learn about your values, interests, personality style and skills/abilities. Knowing about yourself will most likely increase your chances of finding a major/career in which you will be successful and satisfied. Career counselors will determine whether one or more of the career assessments is right for you.

  • The Self-Directed Search (SDS) and the Strong Interest Inventory - assessments that allow you to explore what you like to do and provide you a list of possible career options based on these interests.
  • The Myers Briggs Type Indicator- a personality assessment that examines your preferences and explores various career options based on these preferences.
  • The Career Values Card Sort - a fun activity that allows you to clarify what is important to you about work.
  • The SkillScan Professional Card Sort - an interactive card game that allows you to discover and categorize your abilities.

Career/Major Exploration Workshop

This workshop addresses the importance of making well-informed decisions about careers and majors, misperceptions about the career exploration process, the importance of self-assessment, and how majors and careers are connected (but not always in a direct way).
