Del Rodgers
Spring 2011 - Spring 2012 MBA Project Manager ~ Show Profile

Del RogersConsulting Group Experience: "During the fall 2012 semester, most of my work involved internal projects around the BBA's financial close & month-end reporting process. In working on the financials, I gained a better understanding of our budget process and the key business drivers that affected our actual revenue and expense variances to plan. Looking at the detailed transactions was crucial in helping determine the story/commentary behind the numbers. Knowing our end game, which was to provide meaningful information to the management team so they could make informed decisions, was great exposure to the importance of understanding finance and accounting data.

In summary, my time at the BBA beginning in February 2011, has met every expectation I set when I started. I have been challenged intellectually, learned advanced business skills, worked on meaningful and mission critical engagements and had the chance to apply my academic studies to real world situations. The BBA staff and colleagues in the College of Business have in some shape or form, been a mentor and my biggest cheerleader by encouraging and guiding me as challenges presented themselves throughout the experience." I feel that this unique experience has made me increasingly marketable as I enter the job market. Employers are consistently impressed with my knowledge of a wide array of subject matter. This could not have been possible without the time I have spent at the BBCG.

In my time at the BBCG, I have experienced many unique projects that a typical intern may not have had the opportunity to touch. For instance, I participated in a meeting between a client and their bank as they attempt to monitor their borrowing. A typical intern may not have had the opportunity to experience this type of meeting. Lauren Bauer
Fall 2012 Marketing Student Analyst ~ Show Profile

Lauren BauerConsulting Group Experience: "Before I had an internship at the Butler Business Accelerator, I heard that only the best and the brightest interns were hired to be student analysts. When I was hired, I began to realize why that was the case. The other interns and I were not given the ordinary "intern tasks." We were given significant portions of client work and expected to do our job as if we were actual entry level employees. Throughout the semester, I was given control of conducting whole competitive analyses and various marketing tasks for clients without being micro-managed every step of the way. It taught me more than I could have ever imagined about consulting and helped me apply all of the concepts I had spent four years learning in the College of Business. The staff made time to help and get to know students, whether it was giving us feedback on our performance or joining us for social events outside of work. It gave us all a chance to connect as business professionals in the work environment and as friends, which made the experience and showing up for work each day even more enjoyable. I am confident that I will take the lessons I learned and the network I have built at the BBA far into the future. All of the assignments I had at the BBA helped prepare me for a career after I graduate. I really enjoyed working closely with the BBA staff members and getting a first-hand look at what it's like working as a consultant." Lauren Bauer, Marketing Major, Marketing Analysis, fall 2012

The internship gives a unique balance of learning and real-life experience to develop numerous skills critical to being successful in future employment. The internship provided me with numerous opportunities to interact directly with the leaders of the Indiana mid-market companies with BBA contracts. In meetings, my knowledge and analysis was counted on to help find, analyze, and solve current problems. This experience was extremely beneficial and provided an opportunity to learn the best way to interact in those settings. In addition, the internship provided an opportunities throughout its duration. The Friday morning meetings were helpful to expand my knowledge of business concepts, disciplines, or aspects of business that are sometimes ignored. The professionals at the BBA are also incredible resources that are willing to help the interns provide quality work, but also develop as business professionals. The primary focus isn't always to enforce and promote deadlines, but rather to ensure interns are ready and able to perform the tasks required of them. In this way, deadlines will almost always be met because the intern has become capable and learned the skills necessary to complete the tasks on time and with significant quality. Therefore, the BBA provides a challenging experience that will benefit the intern through quality learning and development of core business qualities. - Matt Howard, summer, fall 2020 CFO Services Student Analyst

My very first day at the Consulting Group, I was at a client site doing work that would make a difference to that company. I had never even thought of working in the consulting industry, but my experience at the Consulting Group proved that it was a very interesting field. The Consulting Group gave me the real-world experience that the classroom could never have provided. I was able to give a presentation to the owner of a company and have him listen to my suggestions. However, having mastered this part of the role, I have also been able to reach above for ad hoc projects such as reconciling our cash receipt transfers and our private equity balance, which both ensure the longevity of our operating funds. Also, I was entrusted with the task of training my successor, which has been a valuable lesson in people management and performance measurement. The trust and freedom given by the staff has helped me to grow as an employee, a professional, and a student during my time at the Consulting Group." -Benjamin Raynauld, Fall 2009 Student Analyst

kaylarheaConsulting Group Experience: "My internship as a marketing student analyst for the Butler Business Accelerator has already proven to be of great value. Stepping back into the classroom after a summer at the Accelerator, I am able to better apply concepts that I am being taught to real business situations. I am also able to take the strategy and technical skills I learned at the Accelerator to my second internship and hopefully to future jobs as well. The relationships I built with other student analysts and staff have been the most rewarding aspect of this internship, however. The culture that the staff has built is something to be proud of, and I hope to someday work for a company who places as much value on people as the Accelerator does." - Kayla Rhea, summer, fall 2010 Marketing Analyst, Marketing major

The range of clients and projects that each individual intern was able to interact with on a daily basis kept out work not only challenging, but very rewarding when completed. The professionals at the Butler Business Consulting Group are some of the best people I have worked with at any company. Their willingness to take a couple minutes and explain a process or decision makes learning quick and easy.

The world of consulting is a highly competitive market, and the Butler Business Consulting Group is able to set itself apart because of their personnel. The most important thing that I have learned while being at the BBCG is to make people comfortable in their environment. Considering I worked the majority of my time with Trent Ritzenthaler, I now understand why he is the Director of Operations at the BBCG. At every single client meeting not only was he able to ask great questions that got to the heart of the matter, but he made everyone in the room comfortable. Not only did this lead to getting the best answers to the questions, allowing for the best results, but it showed that Trent actually cares about what he is doing and that he truly enjoys what he does." - Andrew Smith, Finance Major, CFO Service Analyst, spring 2013
