What is Leadership London all
about?
Show Answer
Leadership London is a unique interdisciplinary, seminar- and
discussion-style, site-based course on leadership. While summer
2009 was the first year that Leadership London is taught at
Butler University, it was the eleventh year
that Chuck Williams has taught this course.
How is Leadership London
Interdisciplinary?
Show Answer
While Leadership London emanates from the Butler University
College of Business, the course is designed for any student major
on campus. 2009 Leadership London students included majors in
accounting, communication studies, economics, English, exploratory
studies, international management, marketing, pharmacy, psychology,
sociology and theatre.
What is site-based instruction?
Show Answer
Site-based instruction means that we'll use London's resources,
institutions and history to explore the cultural, international,
historical and ethical issues relevant to leadership. Every
afternoon, after our morning class session, we'll visit a site in
London related to our class discussion. For example, when we
discuss the leadership qualities of Queen Elizabeth, we'll spend
the afternoon visiting the Tower of London. When we discuss Gandhi,
we'll visit a Hindi Temple. When we discuss Churchill, we'll visit
the Cabinet War Rooms from which he guided England during World War
II.
When is Leadership London taught?
Show Answer
The dates for the next program are Friday, June 28, 2013 to
Friday, July 19, 2013.
Where will I stay?
Show Answer
Students stay at 13-17 Bedford Place, a modernized property
located in an attractive, quiet area of London. This location in
central London is within walking distance of our classroom, the
theater district, Trafalgar Square, the Globe Theater, the British
Museum, Parliament, etc. Although the greater London area is huge,
central London is surprisingly compact and nearly everything you'd
want to see or do is within an easy 15-30 minute walk. Our flats,
which have security on the premises, are located on a quiet street
with little traffic. Our apartments at 13-17 Bedford Place have
two-three bedrooms and two-three bathrooms. Apartments also include
fully-equipped kitchens with cooking appliances, refrigerators and
microwaves; living rooms with couches, chairs, color TV, dining
table and chairs, and a coffee table; telephones (requires a phone
card to dial out); bed linens and towels; and a clothes
washer/dryer unit. Wireless internet service is also provided.
