Applying to Art
Majors
Incoming First-year students:
First, submit your Butler application and complete the
supplemental Art application. The application includes an essay
about why you want to pursue the Art + Design major and a list of
your previous art experiences and a portfolio with 10+ works. Art
faculty will conduct a 30+ minute interview with you on posted
dates which will be scheduled after you submit your electronic
portfolio. Please bring your physical portfolio with you to the

Existing Butler students:
Art faculty will conduct a 30+ minute interview with you on
Butler's campus which will be scheduled after you submit an Art
application (which includes an essay about why you want to pursue
the Art + Design major and a list of your previous art experiences)
and a portfolio with 10+ works. You will submit a portfolio
electronically and then bring your physical portfolio with you to
the interview. Contact the art program director, Michelle Jarvis at
mjarvis@butler.edu to initiate this process and
receive the application form.
Minors

Begin the process by emailing or calling the program
director, Michelle Jarvis at mjarvis@butler.edu or 317-940-9961. You
will be invited to email a portfolio with 10 + images (using any
software or site; blog, facebook, flickr, etc.). Faculty will
review and vote electronically and the program director will email
the decision to you.
