Applying to Art

Majors

Incoming First-year students:

First, submit your Butler application and complete the supplemental Art application. The application includes an essay about why you want to pursue the Art + Design major and a list of your previous art experiences and a portfolio with 10+ works. Art faculty will conduct a 30+ minute interview with you on posted dates which will be scheduled after you submit your electronic portfolio. Please bring your physical portfolio with you to the interview. Learn how to apply to JCA here.

Existing Butler students:

Art faculty will conduct a 30+ minute interview with you on Butler's campus which will be scheduled after you submit an Art application (which includes an essay about why you want to pursue the Art + Design major and a list of your previous art experiences) and a portfolio with 10+ works. You will submit a portfolio electronically and then bring your physical portfolio with you to the interview. Contact the art program director, Elizabeth Mix at emix@butler.edu to initiate this process and receive the application form.

Minors

Existing Butler students:

Begin the process by emailing or calling the program director, Elizabeth Mix at emix@butler.edu or 317-940-6457. You will be invited to email a portfolio with 10 + images (using any software or site; blog, facebook, flickr, etc.). Faculty will review and vote electronically and the program director will email the decision to you.
