Black Alumni Association Scholarship
The Butler Black Alumni
Association, formerly known as the Minority Alumni Council, was
established in 1986. It exists to strengthen, foster, encourage and
effectively communicate the needs of alumni of African-American
descent. The association promotes professional development,
cultural awareness and personal development among its members and
all members of the Butler community; encourages alumni of
African-American descent to participate in the life of the
university; and fosters productive interaction among the current
student body, faculty, staff and administration. Members of the
association and others provide ongoing support to this fund, which
was established as an annual scholarship by the Minority Alumni
Council in 1990 and endowed by its successor, the Butler Black
Alumni Association, in 2006.
The Black Alumni Association Scholarship assists full-time black
students who exemplify commitment and identification with the
African-American community, with special consideration given to
students who demonstrate financial need. Potential recipients may
be recommended by the vice president of the Black Alumni
Association with final confirmation by the financial aid
office.
