In 1999, at the age of 25, Bill Soards was elected to the
Indianapolis City-Council to a four year term and represented 80
percent of Pike Township on the city's northwest side. Bill
currently works in the external affairs department of SBC and
serves as director of state government relations. Bill represents
the company with federal, state and local elected officials and
community groups in central Indiana. Prior to these positions, Bill
was vice president at Livengood Soards & Associates, a
governmental affairs and association management firm, as well as an
employee of the Indiana State House Associates. Bill serves on
several Indianapolis area associations and boards including the
Columbia Club, Indianapolis Downtown, Inc. and the Young
Republicans of Indiana. He serves as a first lieutenant for the
Indiana Guard Reserve at Headquarters Detachment. Bill and his
wife, Ann '95, have two daughters, Katelyn and Allison.
