Bill Evans is a 1985 graduate of Butler, having majored in radio
and television. His successful career path has been a point
of pride with Butler and the telecommunications program.
Bill's professional integrity and accomplishments make him a
fitting honoree in Hilton Ultimus Brown's historic name of
achievement.
As chief news photographer with WLOS-TV, the ABC affiliate in
Asheville, N.C., Bill shoots and edits news stories daily and
supervises a staff of 19 photographers, editors and
technicians. Bill moved to the Carolina mountains after nine
years in New Orleans, where he was chief news photographer with
WGNO-TV. He has won two regional Emmy awards, one for spot
news coverage (1997) and the other for individual
achievement/camera (1995). He was also recognized as WGNO's
Employee of the Year in 1996.
Bill started his television career in 1985 on northwest
Florida's gulf coast at WEAR-TV (Pensacola) after an internship
with WISH-TV in Indianapolis during his senior year at Butler.
While at Butler, Bill was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha
fraternity, where he served as alumni chairman and fraternity
educator. He was also a member of Alpha Epsilon Rho.
Bill's wife, Tina, is a television news reporter. They
have two children, Zachary and Mariah.
