Dr. Mark V. Bohnert '77
Katharine Merrill Graydon Alumni Service Award, 2001
Dr. Mark Bohnert graduated from Butler in 1977 with a B.S. in
chemistry. He served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors
from 1985-1986. He has been a member of the B-Association and the
Cage Club. He also has been involved with the Touchdown Club, of
which he was coordinator for two years. Most remarkably, Mark has
put his professional skills to work at Butler: since 1983 he has
volunteered as the dentist for Butler athletic teams. Mark takes
impressions for all the mouthpieces for Butler. He has instructed
trainers throughout central Indiana about mouthpieces and has
lectured to the Butler student trainers about dental injuries. He
coordinates with IU School of Dentistry students to take team
impressions and has been on call for possible student athlete
dental injuries.
Mark belongs to numerous professional organizations and has
published several professional papers as well as given
presentations to his peers. Most notably, he served for two years
as chairman of the central Indiana Dental Peer Review committee. He
has served as tournament dentist for the NCAA Final Four in 1991,
1997 and 2000, as well as the NCAA first and second rounds and
women's Big Ten Tournament in 1999.
Personally, Mark and his wife, Susan, have a busy family life
with their two children, Paul and Laura. Mark has been active with
the Roncalli High School board of directors and assisted with their
development efforts. He received their Joe Mendez Award for
volunteer efforts in 1999. Mark also takes part in Catholic Youth
Organization, serving on their board. He received the Monsignor
Albert Busald Award in 1996. At Nativity Catholic Church he has
served on the parish council and as fundraising campaign chair. He
has been involved with coaching Little League and CYO since 1989.
Mark is well-known for bringing enthusiastic groups of young people
to Butler games, for pre-game pizza parties and post-game autograph
sessions.
