Dr. John Stegman '57
Butler Medal, 2004
Dr. Stegman was an active undergraduate, serving not only as
president of the student body but as president of Sigma Chi
Fraternity as well as an officer in several academic honoraries. He
was one of the first premiere debaters at Butler. He went on to
receive a Masters and a Ph.D. in communication from The Ohio State
University, where he taught for many years. As a Butler alumnus he
started the Columbus, Ohio alumni chapter and served as president
of the Alumni Association board of directors. Dr. Stegman currently
serves as the president of the Ovid Butler Society executive
committee. He still works as a consultant and lecturer. He recently
received the Superior Public Service Award from the Secretary of
the Navy and several teaching awards by The Ohio State University.
Dr. Stegman has two daughters, Pamela Kay Stegman Boes and Angela
Jo Stegman Smith.
