About Me:

My name is Steph, and I am a senior Marketing major with a Communication Studies minor. Since this is my last year at Butler, my main goal is to enjoy every moment that I have left, while doing as much as humanly possible. I am a marketing analyst at the Butler Business Accelerator, a Speakers Lab tutor, and a Butler blogger (obviously). I also am an Alpha Phi, the President of the Butler University Student Foundation, a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity), and a member of the Butler American Marketing Association. In the small amount of free time that I do have, I love crafting, watching large amounts of television, and enjoying my favorite comfort foods, like sweet tea.

It’s The Final Countdown….

This is my senior year….and this is my final introduction post on my Butler blog.  (This is my 4th year as a blogger….and yes, I am getting nostalgic….about a blog post.)  Just in case you haven’t read my blog much, or even if you have, this will hopefully give you an idea of what kind of things I will be writing about this year…so get excited!

I'm obviously rather excited for the year...

This year I am a senior Marketing major, which means that I am finally taking classes that I love (after three years of Finance, Accounting, and other things that aren’t so fun), and I also have a Communication Studies minor, which means that I give lots of presentations.  I really enjoy both of these areas, because the faculty in both departments are just amazing (as most Butler professors are), and they give me a chance to try completely different things, like taking classes that combine the study of leadership with developing presentation skills, and classes all about retailing or sales.  As a business major, I will complete two internships before I graduate, one of which I completed this summer with Vera Bradley, and another that I am doing now, with Slingshot SEO.  I am so glad that I have both taken care and planned now, because the last thing that I want is to have to be searching for a post-grad job and an internship at the same time….it’s hard enough just finding one!

I am definitely what you would classify as an over committed student, because I love being involved…a little too much.  I’m in a sorority, Alpha Phi, where I’m one of the New Member Educators (so I am helping our new members with their transition to sorority life), which means that I’m also living in the house with 75 other girls (so I don’t have to cook for myself…always a plus…I’m all for prolonging the inevitable).  I’m also in Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity), BAMA (Butler American Marketing Association), and BUSF (Butler University Student Foundation), among other things.  Those are my main clubs for my senior year – and I am so excited to somewhat narrow down a list of about 12, to 4.

When I’m not working, in meetings, or in class, I love hanging out at Starbucks, crafting, watching TV, finding good sweet tea in Indianapolis, and sleeping.  Since I really don’t have much free time to spend doing these things….I don’t do them all a lot….including sleeping.  Nonetheless, I do what I can…and I love it.

Don't worry...I do sleep...sometimes.

This year is going to be a great one….even though it will be outrageously busy.  Even though I might have a breakdown or two…I know that I am just going to make the most of my time here at Butler….and blog about every moment!  :)

Why I love the 4th of July: Part II

Every 4th of July for the past 5 years or so, we have went to a big family party at my Aunt Cheryl & Uncle Stu’s house.  In that time, this gathering has grown from about 15-20 close family members on each side to more people that I could even count (my Dad says around 75-80 people were there).  This includes my family, my Uncle’s family, and my Aunt & Uncle’s friends, basically making for a great group of people, and the best 4th of July celebration in southern Indiana.

Even though I love all of the people that were there, what might be even better is the amazing spread of food that we had.  Everyone brings at least one covered dish, so we had homemade noodles, baked beans, homemade pesto, pulled pork, and too many other amazingly delicious things to mention.  I may or may not have made more than three trips through the lines of food…and yes…I did say lines.  There was the dessert area, the drink area (arguably the most important…thanks to the best sweet tea on the planet that is made by both my Aunt Carol and Aunt Cheryl), the appetizer area, and the regular food area.   I’m starving just thinking about all of the deliciousness…(I would have taken a photo of all of this, but I was too busy eating…my apologies.)

After we ate, we sat around and chatted like we always do.  The only thing that my family likes to more than eat is talk…and we had so much to catch up on with my sister’s wedding coming up, my internship at Vera Bradley, and since my cousin, Amy, is pregnant!  (My family loves small children as well.)  Once it got dark enough outside, we all ventured out to the backyard, where my cousins and my Uncle Stu put on the best fireworks display this side of the Mississippi.  There may or may not have been a small competition going on between their display and the neighbors across the street…but there is obviously no question as to who won that competition….Uncle Stu is a fireworks genius.

This photo doesn't even begin to resemble how great the fireworks were.

Why can’t the 4th of July be every day???
