About Me:

My name is Steph, and I am a senior Marketing major with a Communication Studies minor. Since this is my last year at Butler, my main goal is to enjoy every moment that I have left, while doing as much as humanly possible. I am a marketing analyst at the Butler Business Accelerator, a Speakers Lab tutor, and a Butler blogger (obviously). I also am an Alpha Phi, the President of the Butler University Student Foundation, a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity), and a member of the Butler American Marketing Association. In the small amount of free time that I do have, I love crafting, watching large amounts of television, and enjoying my favorite comfort foods, like sweet tea.

The Longest Night at Butler – Spring Sports Spectacular

Last weekend was a pretty big weekend here at Butler – it was Spring Sports Spectacular weekend.  SSS is a 12 hour event that benefits the Special Olympics, and we get to spend the entire night doing different activities and sports.  I was signed up to play euchre, shuffleboard, and to do Jeopardy, so I was pretty excited…since they are #1 – my favorite events at Spring Sports…and #2 – the only things that I really could do since I don’t really play sports.

I knew what I was getting myself into with euchre when I signed up, because a few years ago it took them 5 hours to narrow 8 teams down to one winner.  If you know anything about euchre – you had to win 2 games out of 3…meaning you had to get to 10 points…twice.  And if you don’t know anything about euchre, just know that this could take forever….just to advance to the next round.  I played with my roommate, Lauren, who loves playing euchre almost as much as I do.  We are both from southern Indiana, where euchre is popular…and we both used to show cattle, where euchre is basically what you do for hours each day.  So we were pumped to finally play together, until we realized how long it was going to take.  In the end….we played for so long that I missed shuffleboard and she missed a volleyball game…and we lost too.

For the next few hours I floated around watching other events everywhere…because I didn’t have anything to do until Jeopardy at 3 a.m.  Around 2:15 I hit a wall – and it was rough.  I didn’t know if I would be able to stay awake during Jeopardy…I didn’t even think about actually being competitive.  Turns out…Jeopardy is pretty awesome…and I’m pretty awesome at it too.  I won, and that totally gave me my second wind.  After that I watched some badminton, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee…and I didn’t even feel like going home until 5.  So – I think it’s safe to say that my final SSS was a success.

One of the more intense events at SSS - the spelling bee.

A Wrap-Up of my Junior Year…Part I

During the school year I have a pretty busy and eventful life…so sometimes I don’t get to blog about everything that I want to…which is where this blog comes in.  Here is the last few weeks of my Junior year…because I missed them before…and they were just too much fun to leave out.

Spring Sports Spectacular

I love Spring Sports…it is a 12 hour long sporting event where we all compete in every single event that you could ever imagine…all to benefit the Special Olympics.  This year I did euchre, shuffleboard, Wii Just Dance II, a relay race, and I volunteered.  I tend to stray away from the really active things, and instead I go for the fun easy things that don’t take much experience sports wise.  This year I was also actually successful, as my partner, Amanda, and I got 3rd in shuffleboard, I got 2nd in Wii Just Dance II, and the pair that beat my euchre partner, Kodi, and I ended up winning it all.  Basically, we were 2nd place.

Whoohoo! 3rd Place in Shuffleboard!

Butler’s Top 100 Students Banquet

Every year, Butler selects the Top 100 students, and this year I was fortunate enough to be selected as one.  So on the Friday before the Final Four game, my parents and grandparents came up to go to the Banquet with me.  Mostly, it was wonderful to get to see them, because I was starting to get rather homesick at that point (I was too busy this year to go home as much as I would like), but it was also just a great night to spend with Butler faculty, staff, and other students and their families.  If you didn’t know, some really great students go to Butler…
