About Me:

My name is Steph, and I am a senior Marketing major with a Communication Studies minor. Since this is my last year at Butler, my main goal is to enjoy every moment that I have left, while doing as much as humanly possible. I am a marketing analyst at the Butler Business Accelerator, a Speakers Lab tutor, and a Butler blogger (obviously). I also am an Alpha Phi, the President of the Butler University Student Foundation, a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity), and a member of the Butler American Marketing Association. In the small amount of free time that I do have, I love crafting, watching large amounts of television, and enjoying my favorite comfort foods, like sweet tea.

THIS is college.

I’ve been meaning to devote a post or two to my room’s set up/decor for awhile…but I thought that before I showed my room in its prime I should show it in the normal state.  It really hasn’t been clean since Recruitment, but for that week and a half it was really, REALLY clean. Of course, it wasn’t naturally clean…simply because we have so much stuff and not enough room for all of it.  To deal with this situation, we created a secret hiding space for all of our stuff…where we would hide everything that didn’t have a home during each day of Recruitment so no one saw it.  This included some food, my roommate Katie’s clothes, some shoes, and other random things that were just laying around…and the place where we would hide it all was our bath tub.  Think about it, if you put things in the bath tub then you can close the curtain, and just like magic…everything is hidden.

Our bath tub...the catch-all.

I know…it’s kind of gross.  But it was clean – and every day we would just empty it before we needed to use the shower….and then fill it again after.

If we could have our room look nice, clean, and orderly all day every day…I would be all for it.  But let’s be serious… we are in college and we are not neat people…at all.  So we just do what we can to make sure that we aren’t living in filth, and put most of our stuff in piles.  This way, it is at least a comfortable space…right?

So…that is our room in its normal state.  Check back next week for our room in its prime…where you can actually notice our style and all of the awesome decorative things we made.  I promise – it is a REALLY awesome room…and I’m only slightly biased.

The Life and Times of a Vera Bradley Fanatic

If you weren’t already aware, this summer I interned at Vera Bradley in Fort Wayne, IN.  This is where the company started, and where it is still headquartered today, almost 30 years later.  I wanted to intern for Vera because I heard great things about the company, the corporate culture, and of course…the bags.  I have a slight obsession…that every person notices when they walk into my room for the first time.  as soon as someone walks into our room, they see my closet…which is basically stocked full of Large Duffels, totes, and everything else Vera Bradley that doesn’t fit in other places around the room.  When I was taking pictures of my room for the blogs I posted earlier this week, I noticed how overrun with Vera that my room truly is.

So, I guess that this blog is serving as a way for me confront my issues (no matter how beautiful they are)….

Hi, my name is Stephanie, and I am an addict.  A Vera Bradley addict.

Prepare yourself…..

A few of my totes, duffels, and my Grand Traveler all live above my closet…

And….that’s it.  I know, I have entirely too much Vera Bradley…but I love being truly prepared for everything that I do as a college student, and that wouldn’t be possible without my 2 Totes, my Vera, my Messenger, and everything else that I use on a daily basis.  I also think it helps to note that I did receive a pretty amazing discount all summer long at my internship, which made buying most of these items much more affordable for my college student budget.

My Own Butler Crib: Part II

So yesterday I showed you all around the living side of my room…and today you get to see my sleeper, bathroom, and my closet.

First up, the sleeper.  This is one of the most amazing aspects of living in my sorority house, because in our room, when someone wants to go nap, sleep, or study, they can go into the sleeper side and close themselves off from the rest of the world.  In the sleeper we each have a bed (yes, I am 22 years old and I still sleep in a bunk bed) and a dresser, and it is also the holding space for most of our junk.  Another beautiful thing is that since we really only sleep in there, we usually don’t mind if it is messy…because the lights are off in it about 75% of the time.  So please excuse the clothes on the floor, and the unmade beds.  We rarely make our beds because #1 – making a bed on the top bunk is next to impossible, and #2 – they’re in the sleeper, so we only see them when we are sleeping.

The sleeper….

Next is our bathroom…one of the other best parts about living in this part of my house.  We have double sinks, and tons of counter and cabinet space, which is perfect for girls…obviously.

The bathroom…

On the other side of the bathroom we have the other bathroom necessities…a shower/tub and a toilet.  Nuff said.

The other side of the bathroom…

And now, my favorite/least favorite part of the room…my closet.  I don’t like it because it is entirely too small…but I love it because it has all of my clothes in it.  It is jam packed from the rack to the shelf above the rack to the area below where my clothes are hanging, so I guess you can never say that I don’t know how to utilize space well…

My life…my closet.

And that, in a nutshell, is my room.  I have 3 amazing roommates, Lauren, Katie (Carl), and Brooke, who have made this year entirely too much fun.  Even though our room isn’t always clean (or ever), we still love hanging out with each other and making our room obviously the coolest at Alpha Phi.

My Own Butler Crib: Part I

Some of you may have seen the Butler’s Cribs Videos already…(and if you haven’t, you should definitely check them out here).  I wanted to enter, but time ran away from me and I didn’t have time to put together a video with my roommates.  Instead, I am going to show you around my room in photos.  I am currently living in Alpha Phi, my sorority house, which I absolutely and completely love.  If you want to check out another Alpha Phi room that was featured in a Butler Crib Video, check out Abby, Emily, Maria, & Kendall’s video!  (Fun Fact: I once lived in this room too!)

*Disclaimer:  Our room is never this clean.  My roommates were all impressed when they came in after I took these photos.

First, we will begin in our main living space.  Our room is divided into three rooms, a living/studying room, a sleeping room, and a bathroom.  Here we each have a desk (there are 4 of us), we have a futon, a tv, and a fridge.

My room….

Something cool that you probably notice about our room is how many different styles there are represented.  Each of us has a distinctly different personal style…so we just embraced it and threw everything together.  That’s the beauty of living in such a small space, for a short period of time.  You can really do anything, and as long as it makes you feel at home, its perfect.

Another view…

My corner is usually a mess of bags, books, papers, coats, and everything that I use on a daily basis, but today I actually cleaned it.  I feel much more productive now, and I can actually sit here because I’m not completely overwhelmed by all of my stuff.  I like my corner though…it’s very “Steph”.

My desk…

The last area in our main living space is the futon…which I sleep on…all the time.  We also added the coffee table to make us feel like real people, and it is definitely succeeding.

Our “living area”.

Check back tomorrow for Part II of my room….the sleeper, bathroom, and most importantly…my closet.
