About Me:

My name is Steph, and I am a senior Marketing major with a Communication Studies minor. Since this is my last year at Butler, my main goal is to enjoy every moment that I have left, while doing as much as humanly possible. I am a marketing analyst at the Butler Business Accelerator, a Speakers Lab tutor, and a Butler blogger (obviously). I also am an Alpha Phi, the President of the Butler University Student Foundation, a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity), and a member of the Butler American Marketing Association. In the small amount of free time that I do have, I love crafting, watching large amounts of television, and enjoying my favorite comfort foods, like sweet tea.

Events on Events on Events: The Life of a Butler Senior

At Butler, everyone loves to honor and appreciate the seniors…which I love.  For the last few weeks, we have had special events all the time, which has made life busy but obviously really fun…

Top 100

This year I was fortunate enough to be selected as a part of the Top 100 Students at Butler, along with one of the other bloggers, Olivia!  It is such an honor to be a part of that group of students, and they held a wonderful dinner to celebrate the program and to announce the Top 10 men and women at Butler.  I think the night of the dinner was when my parents and I started to realize that I’m almost done….and that the last 4 years have just flown by.   Also – a special Congratulations goes out to Olivia for being named to the Top 10 women!

Senior Brunch

At the end of Alpha Phi’s Senior Week we always have a brunch for the seniors and their parents.  We eat the traditional Saturday brunch that we have loved on for the last 4 years, our littles each say a few nice words about us, they sing some songs that are special to Alpha Phi, and they give away a few senior awards.  It was just an all around amazing time to spend with my sorority sisters and our parents, because they all hear us talk about Alpha Phi, but I don’t think that they ever really understand what the sisterhood means to us all, until they see it at an event like the Senior Brunch.

Senior Wills

Every year during Senior Week at Alpha Phi, we have a time where the seniors hand down all of their Alpha Phi attire, memorabilia, and anything else random that we have accumulated over the years.  Some people give away everything, but I really wasn’t ready to part with some of my things just yet…so I kept some of my favorite shirts and sweatshirts.  Partially I kept some because I like them so much, and partially because I wouldn’t have any other clothes to wear if I did.  But I did pass along quite a few good things, like my A Phi license plate, a Sarah Palin calendar, and some crafts I made over the years.

Everything I passed down during Senior Wills.

An Outrageously Busy/Wonderful Weekend

A lot of my weekends are filled to the brim with different activities…but last weekend was basically the perfect weekend in terms of always having something to do.  Each event was spaced out so I could do everything that I wanted, which I really appreciated.  It was also pretty much filled with Butler-ness…which is always exciting.  So here is a quick rundown of everything that I did throughout my weekend:

Blue II’s Birthday

Each year, BUSF has a birthday party for Blue II, which is probably my favorite BUSF event of the year.  We give away free cupcakes in Starbucks, people get photos with the birthday boy himself, and we have contests and giveaways for everyone that comes.  It is basically a great time for everyone, students, faculty & staff, community members, and of course, Blue!  Even though it rained during the event this year, it was still a ton of fun and a good time was had by all.

Alpha Phi Formal

I normally love any occasion to dress up and dance the night away…and this formal wasn’t any different….except that I didn’t dress up!  Our seniors have a tradition to wear tshirts to their last formal, so instead of wearing a dress, I got to wear a tshirt and jeans.  It made for a great night, even though I wish that it wasn’t my last formal.  Oh, the life of a senior.

Bulldog Jog

This is another event that is usually put on by BUSF, but this year we passed the event on to the HRC.  Since we have always been so involved, we still all volunteered…and I had the chance to help out with the dog walk…which was basically an awesome way to spend my morning.  I love dogs, and thinking about what kinds of dogs I want throughout my life…so it was perfect.  There were tons of dogs there that I loved, but my absolute favorites were these gorgeous/huge Huskies.  I need them.

Someday...I will have dogs like this.

Meghan’s Bridal Shower

Two of my friends are getting married in the next few months, and on Saturday afternoon we had one of their bridal showers.  I think we were all nervous for how it would all come together, but it was a great day with her friends and family, and it made me even more excited for her wedding!  Some of us crafted our gifts for her, which of course was right up my alley…especially since I haven’t been getting my crafting fix lately.  Thanks, Pinterest!

Are you ready … for Welcome Week 2011??!!

I am currently at Butler, going through training with all of the other SOGs (Student Orientation Guides) for Welcome Week 2011.  If you are an incoming student, and you are planning on moving in on Saturday morning, all I can say is, GET EXCITED.  We are planning, preparing, and making sure that everything is taken care of for your arrival and first few days at Butler.  Today, we even had the opportunity to meet and speak with Butler’s new President, President Danko.  He was so nice and open with us, and meeting him just got me so excited for my final year at Butler, and mostly the future of this amazing University.

All of the SOGs with President Danko...

This year a few things have been switched up, so I am really excited to see how everything works out.  Just to give you an idea of what to get excited about….here are some of the things that I am looking forward to the most:

  • Every single event – Each night there is a late night event, and there are several things throughout the days, and I legit want to go to everything.  So, take my advice, and make the most of your welcome week by going to as much as you can!  This is your only Welcome Week experience…so live it up.
  • Meeting my group – Last year I had a fabulous group of exploratory students (Butler’s version of a program for undecided students), but this year I am working with the College of Business, and I couldn’t be more excited!  I really love my major and my classes, so I can’t wait to share all of my excitement with the new students.
  • Discussing the Welcome Week book and hearing from the author, Novella Carpenter – After we had our own SOG discussions today, I got even more excited about the book discussion, which isn’t always my favorite part of Welcome Week.  So, now I’m officially looking forward to it, and to seeing where the discussion leads my group….we shall see… :)

Basically, this year’s Welcome Week is going to be epic.  The group of SOGs is absolutely fabulous, and we can’t wait for all of the new students to get here, so we can share some Butler love and excitement!
