About Me:

My name is Steph, and I am a senior Marketing major with a Communication Studies minor. Since this is my last year at Butler, my main goal is to enjoy every moment that I have left, while doing as much as humanly possible. I am a marketing analyst at the Butler Business Accelerator, a Speakers Lab tutor, and a Butler blogger (obviously). I also am an Alpha Phi, the President of the Butler University Student Foundation, a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity), and a member of the Butler American Marketing Association. In the small amount of free time that I do have, I love crafting, watching large amounts of television, and enjoying my favorite comfort foods, like sweet tea.

What Not to Wear: Butler Style

At Admissions events, the prospective students and their parents always ask us about the same things.  Safety on campus, the dorms, Greek Life, our majors, etc.  But a few months ago, I had a conversation with a future Butler student and her Mom about something completely new:  what people wear around campus.  This might sound like a silly topic, but I absolutely loved it, and I felt that it was something that I should share with all of you before I graduate in a few weeks.  So I will go over the wardrobe “staples” of an average Butler student… or just the things that I see basically everywhere.

  • Butler clothes – We are all pretty proud to be students here, and we love to show it!  So Butler sweatshirts, tshirts, sweatpants, and everything else from the Bookstore are always a staple.
  • Greek Letters – About 1/3 of campus is Greek, and you can definitely tell just by walking around campus.  We love our lettered shirts, and anything else that shows off our house.
  • Sperry’s – A lot of people at Butler are preppy, and we show it by wearing Sperry’s of all kinds.  They are also really comfortable and they go with basically everything…which always helps.
  • Uggs – Winters here are cold, so girls wear Uggs all the time.  I’ve never been an Ugg person…but most people on campus swear by them.
  • Vera Bradley – I obviously love Vera, since I interned there last summer and since I have an outrageous collection of the bags, but I definitely think that other people on campus are fans as well.  They sell Vera in the Bookstore, and you can see the gorgeous prints brightening up campus basically everywhere you go.
  • North Face…everything – Again, winters here are cold, and North Face jackets, hats, gloves, etc. obviously help with that.  There is also a North Face store at the Fashion Mall, which I absolutely love…

Even though people wear all of these brands/types of clothes a lot…everyone on campus has their own style.  So, if you are a prospective student, or better yet…a future Butler student, when you go to college…do your own thing.  Around here, a lot of people have a very J. Crew style or Anthropologie type style…but don’t be afraid to do your own thing and to be completely different.

One of my favorite pictures that shows off the many different styles of Room 11 – my room.

My Own Butler Crib: Part II

So yesterday I showed you all around the living side of my room…and today you get to see my sleeper, bathroom, and my closet.

First up, the sleeper.  This is one of the most amazing aspects of living in my sorority house, because in our room, when someone wants to go nap, sleep, or study, they can go into the sleeper side and close themselves off from the rest of the world.  In the sleeper we each have a bed (yes, I am 22 years old and I still sleep in a bunk bed) and a dresser, and it is also the holding space for most of our junk.  Another beautiful thing is that since we really only sleep in there, we usually don’t mind if it is messy…because the lights are off in it about 75% of the time.  So please excuse the clothes on the floor, and the unmade beds.  We rarely make our beds because #1 – making a bed on the top bunk is next to impossible, and #2 – they’re in the sleeper, so we only see them when we are sleeping.

The sleeper….

Next is our bathroom…one of the other best parts about living in this part of my house.  We have double sinks, and tons of counter and cabinet space, which is perfect for girls…obviously.

The bathroom…

On the other side of the bathroom we have the other bathroom necessities…a shower/tub and a toilet.  Nuff said.

The other side of the bathroom…

And now, my favorite/least favorite part of the room…my closet.  I don’t like it because it is entirely too small…but I love it because it has all of my clothes in it.  It is jam packed from the rack to the shelf above the rack to the area below where my clothes are hanging, so I guess you can never say that I don’t know how to utilize space well…

My life…my closet.

And that, in a nutshell, is my room.  I have 3 amazing roommates, Lauren, Katie (Carl), and Brooke, who have made this year entirely too much fun.  Even though our room isn’t always clean (or ever), we still love hanging out with each other and making our room obviously the coolest at Alpha Phi.

SB2K11 Part 3: A Crafting I will go…..

After I went to Chicago over Spring Break, I went home for the last half of my 10-day break.  I was planning on spending my time just chilling out on my couch, reading, hanging out with my family and friends, and crafting.  Basically…it was fabulous….and oh so productive.  Check out my creations…

I found this shirt’s tutorial, and fell in love with the vertical ruffles, so I had to do it.  I bought two $5 t-shirts at Old Navy, and made one into the ruffles on the shirt.  So much fun…and the navy and white are perfect for being school spirited for the Sweet Sixteen this week!

I found this scarf’s tutorial…and since it was pleated ruffles…I knew that I needed to make it ASAP.  But then I had to find the time to go to a fabric store…and to go home to my sewing machine…which took awhile.  It is a little bit bigger than I wanted, so I might continue to work on it later, or do another one…because I love the idea that much.  And I love that it actually worked…and I was able to do it.  :)

Again, found the tutorial…and loved it.  And while I was looking for fabric at JoAnn’s….I ran across this plaid….and loved it too.  So I created my new favorite scarf…and it was super easy.  :)

And last but not least…here is a sweater I made over Christmas Break that I already posted about…but I didn’t get a picture of it actually on until now.  The picture of it laying on the table looked funny….but it doesn’t look that funny once you put it on….(please excuse the bags under my eyes…and the intense color of the photo….its been a long week and my phone wasn’t loving the lighting in my room.)

So that is everything that I kept myself busy with over break…crafting wise.  I also read Black Heels to Tractor Wheels….The Pioneer Woman‘s new book…and I loved it.  I couldn’t put it down….and I left it at home for my mom to read…that is how good it was.  But other than all of that and trying to catch up with everyone from home…that is all that I had time for…but it made for an amazing break!  Now I am back at Butler and back in the swing of things….and wishing that I had done more over break.  So I am going to go be productive with my life…Happy Wednesday!
