About Me:

My name is Steph, and I am a senior Marketing major with a Communication Studies minor. Since this is my last year at Butler, my main goal is to enjoy every moment that I have left, while doing as much as humanly possible. I am a marketing analyst at the Butler Business Accelerator, a Speakers Lab tutor, and a Butler blogger (obviously). I also am an Alpha Phi, the President of the Butler University Student Foundation, a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity), and a member of the Butler American Marketing Association. In the small amount of free time that I do have, I love crafting, watching large amounts of television, and enjoying my favorite comfort foods, like sweet tea.

Things I will miss about college…

I know that I have been very nostalgic lately with my blogs about how I changed from Freshman year to Senior year, Alpha Phi’s Initiation, and just about being in a sorority in general…but I am going to just continue this little train of memories.  So, I present to you…the less conventional things that I will miss about college.

Studying on Sunday afternoons

I don’t do this every Sunday, but sometimes after church, one of my sorority sisters (Bre) and I will head to the McAllister’s by our church…and spend almost the entire afternoon there.  We study, have lunch, catch up on life, and most importantly….we drink as much tea as humanly possible.  My favorite part though is just going and people watching…which usually means that not much studying actually takes place.

Crafting

I know that I will still be able to craft once I graduate…but I love crafting in college.  I craft for Alpha Phi, for friends, for my room…basically for everything.  I love it…especially since I get to make fun things like this….

Shenanigans

A few weeks ago, I found this creepy clown doll in our shower.  It was placed there by a few of my sorority sisters, and this is not the first occurrence of something of this nature in my house.  Yes, it’s creepy…but I do love it.

Going to games in Hinkle as a student

I haven’t been to a ton of games at Hinkle in the past few years, but my freshman year I went to every single game since I was on the Dance Team.  There’s just something special about watching games there, and even though I can still come after I graduate, I’ll still miss going as a legit student.

2011 Year in Review: January – July

Since tomorrow is the last day of 2011, and since it was a pretty big year in my life, I thought I would close out 2011 with a Year in Review.  I’ll be breaking the series down into January-June, my sister’s wedding, and July-December…so here we go!

Recruitment

During Recruitment 2011 (and throughout the entire Fall semester beforehand), I put away my sorority letters to be a recruitment counselor for freshmen girls.  This meant that I didn’t have any contact with my house during the week, and that I spent every day making sure that the ladies in my group knew what was going on, and helping them figure out what was the right decision for them.  Even though it was a tough week, it was so worth it to see a different side of recruitment, and most of all – to be reunited with my sorority sisters on Bid Day.  Last January Alpha Phi welcomed 41 beautiful ladies into our sisterhood as well…so it was an absolutely awesome week!

Snowpocalypse

In late January/early February of last year, Snowpocalypse hit Indiana.  We had about a foot of ice/snow, and didn’t have classes for two days…so it was heaven for all of us.  We lounged around our house, watched movies, did absolutely no homework, and loved every minute of it.  Of course, it was a truly scary world outside of the house…people were in serious wrecks and it was hazardous to even walk around campus (it would have been easier to ice skate), but we put all of those worries aside and just enjoyed ourselves.  Those two snow days were most definitely two of my favorite days of school…ever!

March Madness/Final Four/National Championship

Even though Butler didn’t end up winning the National Championship, they still had an absolutely AMAZING run.  I love that I will always be able to say that my school went to the Final Four two years in a row, especially while I was here.  And you know…if it happened again…I wouldn’t be mad.  :)   Go Dawgs!

500 Festival Princess Program

From February-May, I was fortunate enough to represent the 500 Festival as a Princess.  I had the opportunity to attend all of the 500 Festival events, do community service in the Indianapolis area and in my hometown, and to go to the Indianapolis 500 (all while wearing a beautiful tiara).  It was basically an unreal experience that I will never forget…and throughout the process I pretty much fell in love with IndyCar.  Check out all of my blogs about my time as a Princess…there are just too many good things to say!

Also…the deadline to apply for the program is rapidly approaching (January 6)…so if you are a girl attending college in Indiana and you are originally from Indiana…apply today!

Check back tomorrow for 2011 Year in Review: Wedding Edition!

It’s always great to be a Bulldog…

If you have been living under a rock, then you might not know that Butler went to the Men’s Basketball National Championship last week.  The game was in Houston, and since Butler students are outrageously spirited and dedicated, about 800-900 students went to the game.  For the other schools, this isn’t a very significant number, but here at Butler, that is the size of almost an entire class.  So, it was basically like the entire junior class went to the game….except me.  And to say that I was disappointed that I couldn’t go is an understatement…especially since all 3 of my roommates went, along with about half of the other girls in my house.  So, from Thursday night until Tuesday night, campus was somewhat dead/empty….all except for Monday night….at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Last year and this year Butler put on a viewing party for the entire community in Hinkle for both the Final Four game and the National Championship.  I thought that it sounded really cool, but I had never actually gone…until Monday night for the Championship.  It was so much fun getting to hang out with other Butler students, as well as members of the community and area, while we cheered on our Bulldogs.

All of the Alpha Phi's at the viewing party...

And as you all probably know, the night didn’t end the way we wanted it to, but we were all still so proud of our team.  Because of their amazing talent and drive, we were able to experience all of the excitement that comes with each part of the tournament, and our school was put on a national stage once again, with some great student athletes acting as spokesperson for Butler.

So thank you again to the Butler Basketball team….for helping make my junior year at Butler just as exciting as my sophomore year.  I can definitely say that choosing Butler was the best choice I have ever made.  Go Dawgs!

We’re going to the ‘ship…again!

I’m not going to lie, being a Butler student right now is basically unreal.  In a good way.  And the best part is that I felt this same way last year…when we went to the National Championship for the first time.

This time last year…I was buying my tickets for the game.  The game that was going to be starting about 4 hours later.  (Why plan ahead when you can wait until the last minute, right?)  This was possible only because the Championship last year was in Indy…which was just so convenient.  So we took a bus dowtown…and watched an amazing game….and I left being a prouder fan than I was before the game started.

This year is a little bit different.  The game is in Houston, which is about 18-20 hours away from Indianapolis, if you didn’t know.  So most people who were going to the game left on Thursday night or Friday afternoon, and they drove through the night.  Since last week was a crazy week school-wise for me (3 tests, 1 project, 1 8 page paper, and 1 15 page paper), and I had already bought tickets for a banquet on Friday night, I knew that leaving early wouldn’t be possible, and even leaving after the banquet would be pushing it.  So, I decided that the responsible thing would be to stay at Butler, and just enjoy the madness on campus.  So tonight I will be watching the game from Hinkle Fieldhouse with a group of my sorority sisters….and I can’t wait!  Tip off is at 9:23 ET, and you all should be watching it too, unless of course, you read this after the game is over.

Until then…busy yourself by checking out the tweets of ButlerBlue2, Butler Men’s Basketball, this article, this video, and this video

And I will leave you with some photos from Friday’s pep rally on Atherton’s (that’s the student union) steps…

Busting Brackets…again…Butler Basketball

So…unless you are living under a rock…you have definitely heard about Butler’s amazing win against Pitt last Saturday…and that we are in the Elite 8…AGAIN!  March Madness just brings this new energy to campus, and it makes it so much more exciting to be a Butler student.  Like today, since it was a gameday, at least 95% of people on campus either wore Butler gear, or they wore Butler colors.  When you think about it…school spirit doesn’t get much better than that.

For tonight’s game everyone was doing something different…whether they were going to a restaurant, staying at home, going to a bar, or going to the Reilly Room.  I chose to go to the Reilly Room at the last minute, and there was such a good turnout!  They had free pizza, candy, and drinks…and it was awesome getting to watch the game with a couple hundred other Butler students.  Mad props go to Program Board for making the viewing party happen….fabulous job!

Watching the game in the Reilly Room....it was packed!

It was a pretty exciting game…even though anything less than the Pitt game just seems boring.  We were still ecstatic though at the end…..so we just had to storm Hampton Drive again in true Butler fashion…

Celebrating on Hampton Drive after the game....Elite 8 baby!

Be sure to watch Butler against the Florida Gators on Saturday….and keep an eye out for articles about the Bulldogs….they seem to be popping up everywhere.  They range in topics from Matt Howard’s socks to just how awesome Butler Basketball really is.  Keeping up on the news about my own school has become a new hobby of mine….and I highly recommend it…since it is so encouraging and just plain fun.  Once again…..GO DAWGS!

The road to SB2K11…

I am currently on Spring Break, which means that last week was super busy…and next week will be super busy.  That is just how it usually goes in college…you use your breaks to recuperate from what happened previously…and to prepare for what is coming.  Usually…I am all about waiting until the last minute…because I feel that I do my best work/save myself from worrying too much this way….and last week was no different for me.  But, in my defense, I planned on working on everything ahead of time….it just didn’t work out…as usual.  So here is a quick breakdown of my week #1 of mid-terms…

  • I started out the week knowing that I had a mid-term in my Interpersonal Communication class on Wednesday night, and thinking that this was really all that I had to study hardcore for.  False.
  • Then I found out that I had a Corporate Finance quiz right before that test….and that there was actually an awful lot of material to study for the quiz.
  • Then I realized that I had a paper due in my Organizational Behavior class that I have right before my Corporate Finance class (which is right before Interpersonal Communication…if you didn’t catch on), and even though it could have been a simple assignment, I had to make it ten times harder than it was originally….which obviously took longer than it needed to take.
  • The same day I had my paper due in Organizational Behavior, we also had a group paper due.

And of course…all of this was due on Wednesday…which meant that Tuesday night was a rather long night for me.  But, there is always a bright side to every situation….and in this case it was that on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m….I was basically done.  I had to review some things for both of my classes the next day of course…but basically…my Spring Break had already begun.  So with this “headstart” for my Spring Break…instead of getting 9 days off…I basically got 11.  Yeah…try to beat that.  I have been rather busy the entire time so far…so check back soon for an update on what kind of exciting things I have been up to during my Spring Break…and don’t forget to cheer for the Bulldogs in the first round of the NCAA tournament today at 12:40 ET!!!  Let’s go Dawgs!
