About Me:

My name is Steph, and I am a senior Marketing major with a Communication Studies minor. Since this is my last year at Butler, my main goal is to enjoy every moment that I have left, while doing as much as humanly possible. I am a marketing analyst at the Butler Business Accelerator, a Speakers Lab tutor, and a Butler blogger (obviously). I also am an Alpha Phi, the President of the Butler University Student Foundation, a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity), and a member of the Butler American Marketing Association. In the small amount of free time that I do have, I love crafting, watching large amounts of television, and enjoying my favorite comfort foods, like sweet tea.

Senior Year Goal: Read a Book on the Mall

Last week I blogged about how I want to have a class outside sometime before I graduate…and this is somewhat of a continuation of that blog.  It might sound strange…and it kind of is.  So first, there are a few things that you need to understand.

  1. I never have free time.
  2. I read so much for class that I am usually burnt out on anything in book form.
  3. Since I don’t have free time and I read a lot more than I would like to already, I never read books.

I know, this is really sad.  I used to love to read…back in my Accelerated Reader days in Elementary School.  Then school kicked it up a notch and I haven’t had time to read ever since.  Sometimes I will read books over breaks though, like over Thanksgiving when I read The Help, or over Spring Break when I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  I really loved reading both of these….and it made me realize that I actually do like reading…so I should probably try it more often.  Hence, my new senior year goal….to read a book on the mall.

Since I am so used to spending my only free time napping or watching TV, the first step will be to just read.  Then, once I get into that a little bit more…I might be able to drag myself off of my futon…and I’ll go outside.  I know, it sounds like a next to impossible task (and it really is), but I think that I can do it.  At least once…maybe??  Perhaps if I just remind myself of how much I loved reading on the beach over break, then it will be easier.  I can try at least, I guess?

My favorite reading spot... on my Vera Bradley towel... of course.

Siesta Key My Love…

Last week was Spring Break….and it was wonderful.  I spent the week in Sarasota/Siesta Key, Florida with 3 of my very best friends…and I loved it. We spent the week doing all kinds of things, so I thought I would share some of my favorite ones with you.  Here we go…

I embraced Instagram.  I feel so artsy and hip.

We became buddies with our hosts’ pets…. Tess (above) and Spike (below)…

We went to the beach…all day every day.

We watched the sun set….

We ate…. a lot.

We shopped… a lot.

Overall, it was a legit week with some people that I absolutely love.  And I came back to Butler all rested and ready to go for the rest of the semester….you know…leaving out the fact that there are only 52 days left until graduation…and I feel a breakdown coming.  It’s fine.

#SB2K12

This week is my senior Spring Break…which is both exciting and sad (maybe just bittersweet).  It’s the first time I’ve ever taken a real trip during Spring Break, as well as my last time to ever take a trip for Spring Break.  It’s the first time I’ve been on a trip with my three best friends, but it hopefully won’t be our last (even though two of them are getting married in the next few months).  But the best of all, I’ve been introduced to my new favorite vacation spot….Sarasota/Siesta Key.

Everyone always has a specific beach that they love because it’s a tradition or just because they had an awesome experience….but I never have had that.  I’ve been on some beach vacations in the past, but my family never had a specific place where we would go every year.  So I have been to Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, Naples, Destin, Miami, and now Sarasota….and my favorite…by far…is Sarasota.  It’s basically the perfect little vacation area with shopping, fun things to do, great restaurants and great beaches.  It’s so great that we really could stay here for two weeks and never do the same thing twice….besides going to the beach of course.  Since SB2K12 isn’t over yet, I’m not going to tell you all about it….but I can safely say that it has been successful simply because I have fallen in love…with a place that isn’t in the Midwest.

How could you not love this???

My First REAL Spring Break

This year I have quite a few firsts going into Spring Break…

  • It is my first real Spring Break…in regards to traveling.
  • It is the first time I haven’t been dying to go home for break.
  • And…It’s the first time that I haven’t been dying to escape campus.

I’m usually the person who is completely content spending my one free week of spring semester laying on my couch at home…doing absolutely nothing.  Last year I did a couple of quick trips during break, but at the end of the week I still had about 4 days to myself.  But this time around…I’m going with 3 of my best friends, Meghan, Liz, and Lauren, to Sarasota.  We’re leaving Butler tonight, staying at my house in southern Indiana tonight, and then driving all the way down tomorrow.  I’m pretty darn excited to go, not only because it is my first (and last…) Spring Break…but for a couple other reasons too.

  • My family doesn’t really vacation…so this going on vacation thing is new to me
  • Liz and Meghan are getting married (to other people) in the next few months…and then they’re moving away to New York and Michigan, respectively.
  • I’m excited to just spend a week with my best friends.
  • And strangely…I can’t wait to drive.

I know the last one is weird…and I might be kicking myself for saying this when we are on hour 12 or 13 of a 15 hour drive…but I miss driving so much.  I drove to the other side of campus the other day, and the couple of minutes I spent in my car were just therapeutic.  We were planning on splitting up the driving, but right now I would be fine with doing it all myself.  I kind of want the challenge of seeing really how long I can drive for…and how fast I can get us to Florida.  So bring it on…15.5 hour drive…I’m totally going to conquer you.
