About Me:

My name is Steph, and I am a senior Marketing major with a Communication Studies minor. Since this is my last year at Butler, my main goal is to enjoy every moment that I have left, while doing as much as humanly possible. I am a marketing analyst at the Butler Business Accelerator, a Speakers Lab tutor, and a Butler blogger (obviously). I also am an Alpha Phi, the President of the Butler University Student Foundation, a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity), and a member of the Butler American Marketing Association. In the small amount of free time that I do have, I love crafting, watching large amounts of television, and enjoying my favorite comfort foods, like sweet tea.

The Post-Grad Life

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not ready to graduate.  I have one class left in my undergraduate career, and I’m just waiting to become an emotional wreck when the underclassmen start leaving to go home for the summer, and then again when graduation is officially over.  I’ve loved college… a lot… but there is one thing that is pulling me through this emotional and kind of scary time in my life:  My future.  I’m staying in Indy…and I couldn’t be more excited.  Of course I would love to stay in college forever, but I’m sure that I would eventually get tired of it and be ready to leave.  And truthfully… real life is pretty awesome.  I’ve had a couple of glimpses into real life through my internships, and I really loved them all.  Going to breakfast, lunch, and dinner for meetings or just to visit…going on business trips… and having real life responsibility… it’s all really awesome actually… and deep down inside… I’m pumped.

Something else that is going to be awesome about my post-grad life is having my own space for the first time.  I’ve lived in a sorority house for 3 years, and even though I’ve had some amazing experiences there, I’m excited to have my own room.  And to decorate it.  It will be different not being able to see my friends pretty much anytime I’d like, but that’s what brunch/lunch/dinner dates are for… and I can’t wait to have them… all the time.  I’ve come to the conclusion that I shall become a Cafe Patachou regular… because everything in life should be enjoyed along with an omelet, cinnamon toast, and amazing coffee.  Basically, I’ve decided that my post-grad life will be fabulous, and that I will survive even though everything I do won’t revolve around Butler anymore.

Up Next: Apartment Decorating

Exactly one month from today I will be graduating from college.  This means that I kind of need to have a plan for my future – which I do.  After graduation I will be moving into an apartment with two of my sorority sisters, Lindsey and Shefali, and I’ll be starting my job about a month later.  So this means that for approximately four weeks, all I have to do is decorate, craft, and be domestic.  I’ll probably do some sleeping, traveling, and being super lazy as well…but I am the most excited about the decorating and crafting.  So naturally, I have been spending all of my free time (I use the term “free” very loosely) Pinteresting and brainstorming ideas for my future home.

So some ideas/looks that I really like….

A way to update/camouflage outdated cabinets

An idea for our living room

My favorite look for a bedroom with a wrought iron bed (which is the kind of bed I’ll have)…

I just really like this wreath

And these bottles….

I could go on for days….but I won’t.  Every day I have to exercise my own self control to make sure that I don’t spend every waking moment just thinking about decorating…and it is basically a full time job.  I’m just really excited to see what our apartment ends up looking like, because right now it is a legitimate clean slate with an older kitchen.  We can paint and put up anything that isn’t completely permanent, which makes for unlimited possibilities – and I couldn’t be more excited!  If only I could make our living room look like this…which I know I can’t…but I can still try, right?

A tour of my summer home…

This summer I am living in my first actual apartment, and I feel so grown up.  For every other part of my 22 years I have either lived at home, or in a dorm, or in my sorority house with 75 other girls, so this is a big change from any of these.  Mostly, because I don’t have anyone else who helps clean (besides my roommate) or cook (which my roommate does the most of).  But it is so nice to have my own room, and to have the chance to practice doing those domestic duties just for the summer.  In August I will move back into my sorority house, with 75 of my fabulous sorority sisters, our cleaning staff, and our two chefs (I’m kind of looking forward to it).  So for now, I’m enjoying myself…but I can’t help feeling like I’m playing house.

Just to give you a little bit of an idea of what my place looks like…here is part of the tour…

One half of our living room....

On the other side of the living room, you will find our TV and our fireplace...which makes me wish my internship was in the winter instead of the summer...

I love that my roommate and I both utilize the living room…all the time.  Instead of hanging out alone in our rooms, we both watch Bravo together almost every night…while we Facebook and catch up on emails.  It reminds me of what my sister and I do all the time, so it makes me feel so at home!

My room...

The best part of my room is that it is just mine…but I do have twin beds…which isn’t that great.  My roommate pushed hers together in her room to create a “Mega Bed”, but I haven’t done that just yet.  We have twin beds and all of the other beautiful furniture in our apartment because it came fully furnished, which was AMAZING.  The last thing I would have wanted to do during my one free week this summer is find furniture…so it just made my summer that much better.  So, I can handle the twin bed for the next month and a half…it’s not too bad.  But I crafted up my room with pillows (that I made myself), and with some pictures of my friends and family of course.  Another amazing thing about my room – it is big enough for ALL of my stuff!  I’ll show you how amazing it really is another time….because it is truly a miracle.

The Saga Continues…I move, I craft.

It seems that every time I move…I feel the need to craft.  For some people, this doesn’t mean much, but for me, it results in an awful lot of gluing and painting.  This is because I move at least three times a year, once at the beginning of spring semester, once at the beginning of the summer, and once before fall semester.  I kind of like this…but it does get rather time-consuming and expensive.  Nevertheless, I love making sure that everywhere I live looks fun and unique…and that I enjoy myself while making it happen.  I just recently finished crafting some things in my apartment, here is what I came up with….

We have a dining room table, so naturally we needed a centerpiece.  JoAnn’s had their pottery 70% off last week, so I grabbed a bowl, and I made some decorative balls just like I made a wreath a few months ago.  Add in a placemat and some candles…and viola….our centerpiece.

My Hand-Crafted Centerpiece...

Above our TV there is a huge blank wall.  It was slightly overwhelming….so we slowly worked on it.  My roommate crafted her Audrey Hepburn photos, I used some fabric I had on hand to make a decorative picture, and I made some more decorative balls and added them to a picture.  Basically, this wall pulls together everything else in our apartment.

Our cluster of creations...

Before I officially moved in, I came by our apartment to see what all they provided.  Basically, they provided everything we needed…but I wanted to make my room a little bit more fun.  So I stopped by my Grandma & Grandpa’s…and took some of their old lamps.  One was little and blue….and I just spruced it up a bit and made it match the shade by adding some ribbon.  I like it much more now…

My Grandma's lamp...Updated

My Grandma also is an artist, and she has a HUGE stock of paintings.  So I went shopping for art before I moved in, and this was one that I loved.  It wasn’t big enough for me….so I made the little frames on the sides, and added the fabric and rosettes to make them match the painting.  They don’t look as cute in this photo…but in real life they are much cooler…I swear.

My addition to my Grandma's painting

That is the majority of the crafting I have done lately….but I will do a full tour of our apartment another time….so be sure to check back!

I am no longer a nomad…and it feels great!

As soon as the Indy 500 and my Princess activities were finished, my parents and I drove to Fort Wayne to move me into my apartment for the summer.  I am interning with Vera Bradley all summer long, and since it is located in Fort Wayne and I live on the other side of the state, I had to find a place to live and a roommate for a few months (luckily, Vera helped out).  Before race weekend I only had a day to pack up all of my stuff for the weekend and the summer, and my poor parents, sister, and future brother-in-law were nice enough to put everything in the car and drive it up.  Let me just say that when they opened the back of the vehicle, things fell out…and my Dad could never see out of the rear view mirror because there was so much in the car.  Not everything fit….but they brought up as much as humanly possible….which was still impressive!

I officially moved into my apartment on Memorial Day, and ever since I have been trying to get caught up on decorating, posting pictures, doing things for my internship, blogging, meeting the other interns, and sleeping.  Being a grown up really is exhausting….especially when you are trying to be social at the same time.  And unfortunately, there aren’t nap breaks in the middle of the day at work…so…I have been giving coffee a try for the first time ever (I’m like Olivia, tea is my thing usually).  It’s not so bad…when it is half creamer and sugar.

I would include photos of my new apartment….but I only have one.  So…this is the only proof that I have that I am not living out of my car any longer.  Don’t worry, the apartment is almost complete…and a photo tour will be coming soon!

Sitting out on our porch with our fun lights...it's so nice to be a grown up...
