Since I go to college in Indianapolis, I live in southern Indiana, and this summer I’m interning in Fort Wayne, I do a lot of driving. Usually this might not be a problem, because I really do love driving, but this summer I am starting to get REALLY REALLY tired of it. This is because I had a lot of different events to attend during the month of May for the 500 Festival Princess Program, and I started my internship at the same time as well. It would be so much more fun if I had company on my trips…but I usually don’t. So, I have found several other ways to pass the time on my drives, and to make them exciting, all by myself.
- I time myself. Now a lot of people do this, just to see what their time is, but I approach it like someone who is running a marathon. I always am trying to beat myself, or just seeing how fast I can make it from point A to point B. The last time I drove home, I cut 5 whole minutes off of my time coming back to Fort Wayne. Yeah…I’m that good.
- I talk on the phone. Sometimes I can get conversations in with more than one person, but a few weekends ago I was coming back from a visit with my friends at Butler, and I just talked to my sister for the entire two hours. And when I was driving home this weekend I talked to my Grandma for a rather long time too. It makes for a more entertaining and social drive home when I call people.
- I sing….and dance. Now of course the dancing is usually at a minimum, because if I really let loose then I could crash my car…which is obviously the opposite of what I would like to happen. But I do just let loose with singing…and I can usually dance with my head and my shoulders…which is so much better than nothing.
So if you are an incoming Freshman at Butler or any other school, and you might have to drive home frequently (or just every once in awhile), start to think about how you will survive/make the drives fun. For me, usually a Venti Black Tea from Starbucks is necessary as well, just to make sure that I stay alert and on top of things while I’m driving. Driving can definitely be a chore…but with just a little bit of effort, you can love them too! So embrace them, and most importantly, be safe!

Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is fundamental and everything. But think about if you added some great
images or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”!
Your content is excellent but with pics and video clips, this site could certainly be one of
the very best in its niche. Awesome blog!
I’m really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a nice blog like this one these days.
