About Me:

My name is Steph, and I am a senior Marketing major with a Communication Studies minor. Since this is my last year at Butler, my main goal is to enjoy every moment that I have left, while doing as much as humanly possible. I am a marketing analyst at the Butler Business Accelerator, a Speakers Lab tutor, and a Butler blogger (obviously). I also am an Alpha Phi, the President of the Butler University Student Foundation, a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity), and a member of the Butler American Marketing Association. In the small amount of free time that I do have, I love crafting, watching large amounts of television, and enjoying my favorite comfort foods, like sweet tea.

Christmas Break Crafting…Part II

So before Christmas, I crafted my sister, Natalie’s, Christmas present.  It turned out rather well…but even though I was in a crafting mood, I was completely out of fun ideas.  But a few days ago, my BFF and crafting cohort, Alison, sent me this link….and there was no turning back.  The link was to Dollar Store crafts….which I fell in love with.  So after looking through page after page of fun crafts, I narrowed my list down to four main crafts for the end of break.  Alison came up with a few more ideas, and we put everything together, and embarked on a rather fabulous journey.  Here are our masterpieces….

My cardigan....

I found the tutorial for this cardigan, and didn’t think I would make it until I found a cardigan for $10 at Old Navy.  So I bought some ribbon….and I made it happen…somehow.  This is actually my first official sewing project (with a sewing machine)….so I am rather proud of myself!

Our little mirrors....

These frames were only $1 at Dollar Tree, as were the mirrors, so we naturally got really excited.  But then we started to paint them and we realized that there was a reason why they were only $1….if you paint white paint on them, it turns pink.  Three kinds of paint, and about 15 coats later, they look at least somewhat white….and we are officially content.

My "limitless strands" necklace....

I found the tutorial for this necklace on the crafts site as well, and I wasn’t going to do it until I found the beads…and loved them.  So I broke down and bought every part of the necklace….which is an awful lot….and hours and hours later…I somehow made it happen.  I really thought it would never end, but luckily I somehow made it all work!  While making this necklace I realized why handmade things cost so much….

My jeweled frames....

I found this idea on the crafts site….and I of course loved it because I can’t get enough of sparkly things.  Now I just need to find a place for them….

Our casual necklace....

And this was the easiest project we had….as well as the most fun project.  I’m not telling you our secret on this one….sorry.

So the grand total of the cost of all of our projects is just under $30!  Think about it…a sweater, two necklaces, two picture frames, and some cute mirrors…for next to nothing when you really think about it all.  This is why crafting is perfect for college students….except that we have no time to craft.  I am facing this harsh reality now…because I have to say goodbye to my crafting ways for the next few weeks.

I will miss you, crafting!  Don’t worry….we will be reunited again soon!

Thanks for linking to DSC! It’s so fun to see what projects you ended up making. I had a hard time spray-painting some scrolly dollar store frames, too… maybe we should try it with primer?

    Nice to meet you!
