BUT I MISS CLASSES. My classes in Australia don’t start until March 3rd, so until then I’m not enrolled in any classes. While I thought this would be an extremely relaxing time I never thought it being too relaxing. Doing nothing sounds great to most people, but to me I am starting to lose my mind. Thank goodness for work at Firebelly Marketing or then I would literally probably just be at home watching Netflix 24/7.
You think not having classes would be great, but it’s not. I feel like a student who has dropped out. You think that you’ll have people to hang out with, which is some what true, but since people have classes at different times during the day it’s hard to plan schedules out. On top of that most of my friends at Butler just like myself are involved with five billion different things, so you are no longer just planning on classes but also on extra activities.
For the most part I keep my timed preoccupied through work, but I do miss class. At least with class you can have breaks in the day where you’re taking a nap or just hanging out. Work doesn’t exactly have a time for naps. In class you may think you are dreading that pop quiz or that test coming up, but at least you can prepare yourself for that. At work you may never know what can happen in one day. So as much as I complain about classes, I miss them. Watch in a month when I start Australian classes I will wish I was back in this moment. You always want what you can’t have.
Here’s something to get you in the mood for some Super Bowl Sunday madness with a lot of Colts appearances
If you are not aware of the weather that is happening in the Midwest, you are either literally living in a cave, which I am grateful that you come out of the cave to read my blog, or you live in a different country. However for the rest of us we are aware of the snow apocalypse. In the Midwest we have been hammered with snow and now we are experiencing extreme temperatures. Today we were colder than the south pole… how does that even happen?
The parking lot at the Indianapolis airport today.
Within all this madness many people lost power. Fortunately the house I am staying at was not one of those, but we lost one major thing. Wifi. Yes, we lost the internet. I understand this is a huge first world problem, but when this storm hit I planned out days of Netflix. Not to mention a lot of my work for my job is dealt with online. Our wifi disappeared on Sunday night. This meant that my friends and I had to figure out new ways to entertain ourselves. I realize how pathetic this sounds, but in all honesty we had no idea what to do. We watched lots of TV and played way too much Mario Kart and Mario Party.
Today Kristina and I decided to finally venture out into the world. While the roads are not great they are at least somewhat drivable now. When we got back from our mini adventure Kristina saw that finally the wifi had returned! Finally I can finish some things I needed to work on, blog to you about the crazy snow, and go back to my life of being anti social except on social media. Just kidding
Anyway recruitment training officially starts tomorrow, so no more snow days for me! I never thought I would say this, but I can not just sit around and do nothing every day. I was starting to lose my mind. I hope everyone continues to stay safe and warm!
For the first time in 4 years I DID NOT WORK BLACK FRIDAY. My first day ever in retail back when I was a junior in high school was Black Friday, so of course I had gotten used to the dreaded day. However, not having to work retail today was the best feeling ever.
I was able to experience a lot for the first time not working Black Friday. There was no waking up at 3 AM to make it to work at 4 AM. I didn’t have to fold any clothes or ring up people at the cash register for my entire shift. I didn’t have to deal with crazed customers trying to get clothes that are already cheap to begin with. Did I mention I worked at Forever 21? How clothes can get any cheaper there I really have no idea. On top of that the girls I know working there now had to do a double shift today.
Instead of dealing with crowds of crazy people going out at all hours of the night I slept in. Ate leftovers. Caught up with Scandal (Yes, I finished 3 seasons in 4 days it’s embarrassing) Watched a great game of the dawgs, which didn’t end up the way I wanted it, but nonetheless was still a great game. Now I am just writing this blog to explain how after 4 years of Black Fridays, I might miss the craziness a little bit… Who am I kidding? No Black Friday today was amazing! But to all those in retail I understand your pain and for that reason I stayed in today! Here’s a video to get you excited for the season!

The show, Scandal, has literally taken over my life. If you haven’t watched Scandal do not, I repeat, DO NOT start watching it until you have enough days in your life to just keep watching. Once one episode ends you cannot stop, you must continue. This is true considering I have finished one season and am on episode 9 on the second season and this has happened in a span of 2-3 days.
Scandal has now become my guilty pleasure. The show is about Olivia Pope who runs a crisis management firm, but on the side she is having an affair with the President of the United States. I didn’t think I would become this addicted to the show, but each episode has twist and turns that sometimes I have to rewind and reprocess what just happened. Texting or snapchatting during episodes can make you miss very important details or facts, so basically at this point I have closed myself off from the world.
The past two days of my life has gone as follows. Sleep. Work. Eat. Watch Scandal. Repeat. So please for your own sake make sure you have a solid 3-4 days set aside to watch Scandal. No distractions. I’m writing you this blog just to take a breather from Scandal, but the hiatus is over, back to watching Scandal I go.

Working at Forever 21 for three years has definitely affected my life in many ways. While I met some amazing and also very interesting people there I also learned that saving your paycheck is more important than spending money on clothes and rings. Although sometimes you just can’t help but by things.
Every one in while Forever 21 will have these insane sales where everything is an additional 50% off of clearance item, which is ridiculous because items such as rings are then only 50 cents. Do you really think I would pass that up? This whole sale is what started my ring obsession. It doesn’t help that most rings there at only $2.80 anyway, but the on sale it just makes everything ten times worse.
All the rings I currently own!
As you can see from the picture above it might be getting a little crazy, but trust me it cannot just be any ring that can make it into my collection. I am extremely picky, but I will still probably be adding many more to this. The sad thing is that I know when one is missing… Happy ring shopping!
Recently our blogging staff found out that our boss, Kristen, is leaving for another job. While we are all very excited for her and the new job it was a sad day for myself and the 5 other bloggers. My experience at Butler with bosses has been unlike any other job. Many of the bosses are people that you can confide in and they will try and help you in any way. As Kristen leaves I wanted to share with you my favorite moments with my boss.
1.) Blogger meetings
Usually when employers hear meetings it always sounds like they are moaning and groaning about it and don’t want to attend. With blogger meetings it is completely different. I actually look forward to our meetings because not only does Kristen get us food, but it is usually an hour of laughing. For Kristen’s sake, so she doesn’t get a heart attack when reading this, WE DO ACCOMPLISH THINGS IN OUR MEETINGS. They are actually very well organized it is just that the bloggers are all extremely funny in my opinion and so we laugh a lot.
2.) Random times in Kristen’s office
If you have ever been to Butler Office of Admissions typically everyone’s door is open unless a meeting is going on. Everyone there is extremely nice and will help you in anyway possible! Kristen’s office is no different and I’m sure I have kept her from work about a trillion times, but every time I’m in the admissions office I know that I can always stop by and talk to her. Whether I have something serious or just stopping by to say hi I know that I will probably be there for at least 20 minutes and will laugh every moment I am there!
3.) Blogger Parties
Yes, we do get end of the semester parties. It is pretty awesome. Usually Kristen would invite us to her house and we would eat and play games. It may seem really simple, but little things like that is what I love because it is always a nice time to catch up. Some times I can’t read everyone’s blogs all the time and I can’t stop by Kristen’s office that often so it was nice to have the parties so we could all catch up. Also, I will miss seeing Kristen’s crazy cat.
I’m sure our next boss will be awesome too, but it will be sad to see Kristen to leave. Until then I think the blogging staff is just hoping we don’t see her cry, because then we will all probably start to cry too.
Yesterday afternoon everyone started getting warnings on their phones and on TV that we would be under a blizzard warning. Typically I don’t take these very seriously because half of the time it never happens.
This morning when I woke up at 8 AM to get ready for work the roads did not look to bad, but after getting called off of work and seeing outside get relatively worse I realized that we would be getting a ton of snow. Currently it almost seems like a whiteout because the wind is so strong that the snow is blowing everywhere. The only thing that makes me happy about this blizzard is that I do not have to work!
Outside my window, it may not look that bad, but the snow is blowing everywhere and still falling!
Unfortunately I am not like every other kid. I hate snow, unless it involves snowboarding. I would rather this just be a ton of rain. For now though it seems that most of Indianapolis is basically shut down. We are currently on an orange alert from the mayor meaning that employers should send employees home and also that only emergency vehicles are being asked to be on the roads.
While this blizzard continues, which by the way we are expected to get 10-15 inches (Bloomington which is about an hour away already has 11.5 inches) I will be laying in my bed all day and watching Parks and Recreation. I have started this a couple days ago and have all most caught up, so I guess that is the plus with this blizzard.
As usual I am working at Forever 21 over the holidays. I don’t really mind ever working at Forever 21 because it is a job I am used to, but this past week has been ridiculous. Let me explain.
To start out, last week I came down with the flu. I’m not completely sure it’s the flu, because I did not go to the doctor, but I am pretty sure it was something to that extent. I had a fever. I threw up at work, and still completed my shift. It was not that big of a deal I’ve thrown up at work before and still worked. You just kind of learn to suck it up and go on. Shockingly though the throw up is not what made my job miserable at times this week. It was the hours and the people. Typically we are open from 10 AM to 9 PM, but for the holiday week we have been open from 8 AM to 11 PM. That may not seem terrible but if you open you have to come an hour early to clean and if you close you have to stay an hour later.
Not only have the hours been ridiculous, people have been out of control. While majority of people are really nice due to it being the holidays and they know it is a crazy time, there are those who usually do not shop and so are stressed out by the craziness. Those are the people that I wish would online shop instead. I have been yelled at about our exchange policy, being too hot in the store, and so many other things. The only positive to this week has been the attractive guys that I typically don’t see in Forever 21. The only bad thing is that most were shopping for their girlfriends…
In the end I am glad that I have tomorrow off, not for the holiday, but just for the mere fact that I can sleep in peace and quiet. No bells going off, no customers with complaints, no cleaning, and no dressing up. Tomorrow you can find me in my bed. I am grateful for my bed. Happy Holidays everyone!
Over this break all I have been doing is working. Work has not been too bad because the days go by really fast with so many people shopping. Plus all the college kids are back at work, so it’s just like how it used to be when I worked there. There are a couple things that bother me about working at the mall though.
1. Crazy Shoppers/Drivers/Moms
I understand you are trying to get exactly what your daughter wants, but if your daughter gave you a list from online we most likely don’t have that item in the store. If we did have the item in the store unfortunately I probably would not be able to best assist you because I have only been back at work for a week, and if you didn’t realize we have thousands of pieces of clothing in the store. Also drivers please don’t take up an entire lane just because you are waiting for a spot. You make it difficult for me to get around you and when I have only 10 minutes to find a spot and get to work you are making my life insane. I’m sorry I am ranting but if anyone would like to work a day at the mall you would experience these same things.
2. Crazy Work Hours
Because it is Christmas time the mall decides to open earlier and close later. Unfortunately for us this means that we have to come in earlier and stay later also… a lot later. The mall has been opening at 8 am and closing at 11 pm, which maybe helping but a lot of people don’t even know we are open and closing that early or late. Tonight will be the first night that I have to close with these hours so it should be interesting, and tomorrow I have to go to work at 6 am so I will see how miserable this will be!
3. Things that I can’t change
I’m sorry I can’t change the prices of clothing. I can’t change the fact that we charge for our Christmas boxes. And also I can’t change our exchange policy. I think people think that because I work at Forever 21 I have some magical power to change things. There’s literally nothing I can do. Please do not get mad at workers. It’s not like we look forward to dampening your spirits while you shop. If anything we just want to go home!
I did not mean to rant, but for all of you who do these things I don’t hate you I just wish you would reconsider the situation. While you may not be too thrilled to shop at the mall during this time, many of us are not too thrilled to be working 40+ hours these next few weeks. Anyway for all of you that want a white Christmas I wish you the best of luck, but Indiana isn’t going to cooperate! So here’s a little something to keep you hopeful.
