My Secret Obsession: Rings

Working at Forever 21 for three years has definitely affected my life in many ways. While I met some amazing and also very interesting people there I also learned that saving your paycheck is more important than spending money on clothes and rings. Although sometimes you just can’t help but by things.

Every one in while Forever 21 will have these insane sales where everything is an additional 50% off of clearance item, which is ridiculous because items such as rings are then only 50 cents. Do you really think I would pass that up? This whole sale is what started my ring obsession. It doesn’t help that most rings there at only $2.80 anyway, but the on sale it just makes everything ten times worse.

All the rings I currently own!

As you can see from the picture above it might be getting a little crazy, but trust me it cannot just be any ring that can make it into my collection. I am extremely picky, but I will still probably be adding many more to this. The sad thing is that I know when one is missing… Happy ring shopping!

Sad Times For Butler Bloggers

Recently our blogging staff found out that our boss, Kristen, is leaving for another job. While we are all very excited for her and the new job it was a sad day for myself and the 5 other bloggers. My experience at Butler with bosses has been unlike any other job. Many of the bosses are people that you can confide in and they will try and help you in any way. As Kristen leaves I wanted to share with you my favorite moments with my boss.

1.) Blogger meetings
Usually when employers hear meetings it always sounds like they are moaning and groaning about it and don’t want to attend. With blogger meetings it is completely different. I actually look forward to our meetings because not only does Kristen get us food, but it is usually an hour of laughing. For Kristen’s sake, so she doesn’t get a heart attack when reading this, WE DO ACCOMPLISH THINGS IN OUR MEETINGS. They are actually very well organized it is just that the bloggers are all extremely funny in my opinion and so we laugh a lot.

2.) Random times in Kristen’s office
If you have ever been to Butler Office of Admissions typically everyone’s door is open unless a meeting is going on. Everyone there is extremely nice and will help you in anyway possible! Kristen’s office is no different and I’m sure I have kept her from work about a trillion times, but every time I’m in the admissions office I know that I can always stop by and talk to her. Whether I have something serious or just stopping by to say hi I know that I will probably be there for at least 20 minutes and will laugh every moment I am there!

3.) Blogger Parties
Yes, we do get end of the semester parties. It is pretty awesome. Usually Kristen would invite us to her house and we would eat and play games. It may seem really simple, but little things like that is what I love because it is always a nice time to catch up. Some times I can’t read everyone’s blogs all the time and I can’t stop by Kristen’s office that often so it was nice to have the parties so we could all catch up. Also, I will miss seeing Kristen’s crazy cat.

I’m sure our next boss will be awesome too, but it will be sad to see Kristen to leave. Until then I think the blogging staff is just hoping we don’t see her cry, because then we will all probably start to cry too.

Blizzard 2012

Yesterday afternoon everyone started getting warnings on their phones and on TV that we would be under a blizzard warning. Typically I don’t take these very seriously because half of the time it never happens.

This morning when I woke up at 8 AM to get ready for work the roads did not look to bad, but after getting called off of work and seeing outside get relatively worse I realized that we would be getting a ton of snow. Currently it almost seems like a whiteout because the wind is so strong that the snow is blowing everywhere. The only thing that makes me happy about this blizzard is that I do not have to work!

Outside my window, it may not look that bad, but the snow is blowing everywhere and still falling!

Unfortunately I am not like every other kid. I hate snow, unless it involves snowboarding. I would rather this just be a ton of rain. For now though it seems that most of Indianapolis is basically shut down. We are currently on an orange alert from the mayor meaning that employers should send employees home and also that only emergency vehicles are being asked to be on the roads.

While this blizzard continues, which by the way we are expected to get 10-15 inches (Bloomington which is about an hour away already has 11.5 inches) I will be laying in my bed all day and watching Parks and Recreation. I have started this a couple days ago and have all most caught up, so I guess that is the plus with this blizzard.

People Are Crazy

As usual I am working at Forever 21 over the holidays. I don’t really mind ever working at Forever 21 because it is a job I am used to, but this past week has been ridiculous. Let me explain.

To start out, last week I came down with the flu. I’m not completely sure it’s the flu, because I did not go to the doctor, but I am pretty sure it was something to that extent. I had a fever. I threw up at work, and still completed my shift. It was not that big of a deal I’ve thrown up at work before and still worked. You just kind of learn to suck it up and go on. Shockingly though the throw up is not what made my job miserable at times this week. It was the hours and the people. Typically we are open from 10 AM to 9 PM, but for the holiday week we have been open from 8 AM to 11 PM. That may not seem terrible but if you open you have to come an hour early to clean and if you close you have to stay an hour later.

Not only have the hours been ridiculous, people have been out of control. While majority of people are really nice due to it being the holidays and they know it is a crazy time, there are those who usually do not shop and so are stressed out by the craziness. Those are the people that I wish would online shop instead. I have been yelled at about our exchange policy, being too hot in the store, and so many other things. The only positive to this week has been the attractive guys that I typically don’t see in Forever 21. The only bad thing is that most were shopping for their girlfriends…

In the end I am glad that I have tomorrow off, not for the holiday, but just for the mere fact that I can sleep in peace and quiet. No bells going off, no customers with complaints, no cleaning, and no dressing up. Tomorrow you can find me in my bed. I am grateful for my bed. Happy Holidays everyone!

True Life: I’m Losing My Mind At Work

Over this break all I have been doing is working. Work has not been too bad because the days go by really fast with so many people shopping. Plus all the college kids are back at work, so it’s just like how it used to be when I worked there. There are a couple things that bother me about working at the mall though.

1. Crazy Shoppers/Drivers/Moms
I understand you are trying to get exactly what your daughter wants, but if your daughter gave you a list from online we most likely don’t have that item in the store. If we did have the item in the store unfortunately I probably would not be able to best assist you because I have only been back at work for a week, and if you didn’t realize we have thousands of pieces of clothing in the store. Also drivers please don’t take up an entire lane just because you are waiting for a spot. You make it difficult for me to get around you and when I have only 10 minutes to find a spot and get to work you are making my life insane. I’m sorry I am ranting but if anyone would like to work a day at the mall you would experience these same things.

2. Crazy Work Hours
Because it is Christmas time the mall decides to open earlier and close later. Unfortunately for us this means that we have to come in earlier and stay later also… a lot later. The mall has been opening at 8 am and closing at 11 pm, which maybe helping but a lot of people don’t even know we are open and closing that early or late. Tonight will be the first night that I have to close with these hours so it should be interesting, and tomorrow I have to go to work at 6 am so I will see how miserable this will be!

3. Things that I can’t change
I’m sorry I can’t change the prices of clothing. I can’t change the fact that we charge for our Christmas boxes. And also I can’t change our exchange policy. I think people think that because I work at Forever 21 I have some magical power to change things. There’s literally nothing I can do. Please do not get mad at workers. It’s not like we look forward to dampening your spirits while you shop. If anything we just want to go home!

I did not mean to rant, but for all of you who do these things I don’t hate you I just wish you would reconsider the situation. While you may not be too thrilled to shop at the mall during this time, many of us are not too thrilled to be working 40+ hours these next few weeks. Anyway for all of you that want a white Christmas I wish you the best of luck, but Indiana isn’t going to cooperate! So here’s a little something to keep you hopeful.

Back To Butler

Today is the first day of school after break. Yesterday when I got back to campus I spent ten minutes just unpacking and then going straight to Irwin library. These next three weeks are going to be a struggle for me.

We have three weeks until we are done with semester and then once again on break. I’m not really worried about finals, but I am more worried about all the work before finals that could end up changing my grade. This week I don’t think I will be relaxed until Thursday at 215 when my weekend starts.

Besides having to do work again I am really happy to be back on campus. I missed it. Home was fun, but I was ready to come back. I loved being able to be with family and friends. I even got to see goats at my dad’s neighbors! They are so cute!

My dad's neighbor's goats!

Anyway good luck to any college student for the next three weeks! We are almost done!

This Is Not Break

This week is Thanksgiving Break, but you could have fooled me. I feel like I have barely been home except only to sleep, which is basically how I am when I am at school. I live only 25 minutes away from Butler, but I haven’t been back home since Fall Break. I try to stay away from home as much as possible so I actually feel like I am part of campus!

Although I missed home I missed working a lot. This may sound weird to people. Even though my job can be tiresome, stressful, and exhausting at times, I love the people I work with and I love the fact I get to look at clothes all day. I work at Forever 21 and as always here’s a look over my schedule.

Sunday: 12-8
Monday: 930-5
Tuesday: 11-7
Wednesday: 11-7
Black Friday: 6am – 4pm

Oh yes that is right I am working Black Friday. Last year on Black Friday it was my first day at Forever 21, you could say I am excited to experience Black Friday as an experienced person finally.

With all this work I haven’t really felt like I have been on break. I still have an 8 to 10 page research paper to write that’s due when I get back. I also have my business plan presentation to give when I get back and a paper to write due by Sunday. Most of my friends didn’t get on break until yesterday so everyone is finally home. Hopefully I get to see some of my best friends, but with my schedule who knows, it may have to wait until Christmas Break!

One thing I have been able to do is go to Butler games still and tonight there is a game, so GO DAWGS! Last game I got front row at Dawg Pound because there is basically no one here!

Front row Dawg Pound!!!

As for the video if you have never seen it, just be amazed. Plus COME BACK TO BUTLER JIMMY!!!
