Happy Winter Break To Me!

I AM FINALLY FINISHED WITH FINALS. To say I’m excited is an understatement. The final I took today will be the last time I am in a Butler classroom until August 27th 2014. It is crazy to think I will be gone that long, but I am really excited to start my journey in Australia. As all of you know I will keep you updated on all my adventures! However, until I leave I’ll still be keeping myself busy! Here’s what I will be doing until February comes around!

#1. Recruitment Counselor
From January 6th-12th I will be helping with recruitment! I have been recruitment counselor this year, but it really all comes down to the week of recruitment where I do the most of my work. I will be back on campus during this week helping the freshmen with their week during recruitment and also just having a lot of fun!

#2. Firebelly Marketing
I will be working basically full time or as much as full time as I can be until I leave for down under! I’m really excited to be back here as often as I was during the summer, and know everything that’s going on again! I also blog for Firebelly Marketing, so if you want to read some things I write for Firebelly click here! That leads to the main blog page, but if you scroll through you can find some of the blogs I have wrote!

#3. Planning for Australia
Obviously between all the other things I will be doing I will be getting ready for 4 months in Australia! I’m already starting to get all my stuff together but I have no idea what I’m packing or what I need to bring, so I need to start thinking about that. If you have been to Australia suggestions would be extremely helpful!

But first things first…. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE AND JIMMY FALLON ON SNL THIS WEEKEND…. yeah that’s what I’ll be doing.

Tune/Turn In Tuesday

So I have definitely been slacking on the blogs, but I PROMISE from here on out things are going to be amazing, because after finals week is over I have 2 months of break time. Well not exactly break time. Once finals are done I will take a little break and then go straight to working 30-40 hours a week at my marketing job before I leave for Australia. Yes, everything has officially been approved and I will be leaving for Australia in February! Get excited!

Since most of my finals has involved more writing and less studying (most of my finals are papers/presentations I only have 1 exam!) I thought I would share with you some of the songs I have been listening to keep me motivated and push through this week of craziness. Hope you guys enjoy and good luck to anyone out there still going through finals week!

#1. Explosions in the Sky – Your Hand In MineThis is the perfect song to listen to over and over if you are writing paper. There are no words so you can really focus on what you are doing. To me this song even without words has a lot of emotion to it, but it really allows me to not sing along. Instead, I listen to this song whenever I have to write a long paper like I did yesterday for my 8-10 page research paper!

#2. Tove Lo – Habits (Hippie Sabotage Remix)
The original to this song is just as good as the remix, but I can’t stop listening to the remix. I love listening to this song because of the beat and the singers voice. For that reason I usually can’t listen to this song while writing, so I  listened to it while working on my design project yesterday.

#3. So High – Ghost Loft
This song has a really chilled out and relaxed vibe to it, which is so helpful for writing papers. There’s no really crazy singing or anything like that just this very cool, airy type of song that can make you feel like you aren’t stuck in a library for 6-8 hours, which is nice.

Sorry guys I’m sticking to only 3 songs this time, because I still have a final due at 12 PM tomorrow and I haven’t made the progress I would like. Also I’m currently at the downtown library trying not to fall asleep… Happy Finals Week everyone!

Movies Just Aren’t For Me

Most of my friends enjoy watching movies. They always ask me “Have you seen this? or Want to go see this with us?” While I do have some favorite movies they are all pretty old movies. For some reason I can’t watch movies. I think I have to be sick, or forced to watch movies.

We can even do a test. If you would like you can comment below and ask me if I’ve seen any movie your thinking about, and I probably have not seen it. For one I think I have ADD because I can never just sit through an entire movie. I get entirely too distracted. I’m like Dory from Finding Nemo (I’ve seen that) I see something shiny and everything goes downhill. Sometimes it is not even me who gets distracted it is those around me distracting me.  I would much rather sit around and talk with friends then watch a movie and be quiet. To my friends and family this no shocker since, yes I know, I talk a lot.

Also I am very picky about movies. I’m not really an action person. Big explosions don’t excite me, and creatures that pop out of nowhere only make me want to hide under a pillow. So basically we are looking at romantic comedies, comedy, drama, suspense, and sometimes I’ll do scary but it has to be for very very good reasons. On top of all this even though I am picky I hate picking anything for groups of people so basically it’s a vicious cycle.

Trust me, I’m trying to get on board with the whole movie thing. It is just a struggle especially right now with school being intense as finals are approaching. For the next couple weeks I just really need to focus on school and work, so no movies for me! In honor of this time of year, here’s a good tradition for us older Butler students.

Why Libraries Scare Me

Recently I just received a job as a Butler Student Ambassador. As a Butler Student Ambassador we give tours to those interested in looking at Butler. Typically on these tours many parents ask the typical questions about weekends, class sizes, majors offered, etc. You also get questions about where to study, and this is where the situation for me gets difficult.

While majority of people think the library is the best place in the world to study, I personally hate it. There are three main reasons why I hate the library:

1.) It’s too quiet
2.) I get easily distracted
3.) I do weird things

To start out with reason number one, I know you are probably saying that is the whole purpose of a library and studying. Personally though I cannot focus in dead silence. My roommates will be the first to tell you that when I have my headphones in I am not talking to anyone, and completely focused on what I am doing. In a library typically my music is too loud in my headphones to the point where those around me can hear it, so that’s probably not good.

For reason number two, you may be wondering how one gets distracted in the library. Well I am like a five year old, I see a shiny object and have to see what it is. The same is true for when people come in out of the library I always want to see who it is, and then when I see who it is and I know them I either want to text them, say hi, or snapchat them. Yes, this is what my life has ended up to.

Finally for reason number three, I do a lot of weird things. If any of you were to receive snapchats from me then you probably know that I am not normal. I also don’t like to look presentable when studying, I would rather just wear sweatpants, no make up, and not have to wear shoes.

Libraries are just not for me, but if you really want to know we have two at Butler that are pretty awesome (Irwin and the Science library).

Irwin Library

Let The Finals Begin

I’m getting all too familiar with the view at Irwin. Second floor is my normal spot, you can usually find me in the stacks somewhere usually with my friend Kelsey. Currently, I am studying for my Religions of the World final that I have tomorrow at one.

I already got my Starbucks fix, which I needed because I already took a nap at 630 – 7 in Irwin. Speaking of Starbucks if you didn’t know they have a secret menu! It’s awesome. Right now I am drinking a Red mocha, which is white chocolate/chocolate mocha and two shots of raspberry. Click the link to see the awesome secret menu!

Shockingly I am not too stressed about finals week. I am slightly worried, but all this studying has me pumped. I feel pretty confident so hopefully I am not jinxing myself. Plus Butler has been awesome with their stress less week, which they had really awesome things. They had dogs come in, doodle night at A Town and so many other things.

One of the dogs that came for Stress Less Week!

Cal's drawing from doodle night!

Hopefully all this fun/stress free life stays with me through finals week! Good luck everyone! Just to keep you from not going crazy, check out what Butler frat, Phi Delt, did to their house! So awesome!

My First Semester

Being a freshman I cannot believe my first semester is already done. It’s so weird to think that just a short amount of time ago I was moving into my dorm on the first day to now preparing for finals.

College is a LOT more difficult than high school. I have never studied this much in life, but from studying so much I feel so accomplished with myself. I have no regrets in anything this past semester and I can see how I have improved already. I thought in high school I would definitely have a C in a class, but I can proudly say that is not the case. I’m sure my parents are thrilled I thought I would be getting C’s, but I was definitely afraid of college classes at first!

In my writing I can see how I have already improved. Looking at my first papers compared to now my grades have continued to increase and I continue to receive better comments from professors on every paper.

My first semester has not been all studying though, as many of you know by reading my blogs I had so much fun this past semester. I was able to attend three concerts during the school year, visit other colleges to see friends, see my sister get married, and so many other events. I have also met so many people and I am thankful for everyone in my life! I am so grateful to be able to attend a school of talented, intelligent, and awesome people.

I still have finals to get through, but second semester here I come.

Best Friends Forever

Irwin library mine as well be my best friend this week with how much time I spend in there lately. There’s a joke that sometimes gets posted on Facebook and majority of the time it is very true.

Basically at this point I am between the second and third one. I haven’t really seen a lot of people lately or hung out with a lot of my friends lately, because of how much work I have. Although I guess my social hour is at lunch currently. So never mind I am clearly the second one right now! After 1 pm on Thursday that will change. That is when I am officially done with having to worry about anything at least for this week.

The reason why I have been at the library so much lately is because it’s really the only place I can focus and also I have a research paper due. I mine as well be a librarian with how well I can find books now.

Working on my research paper with Kelsey!

Last night I got at Irwin at 730 pm and didn’t leave until 1 am. I feel like a true college student now.

Check out this video about a tradition at Butler that I first found annoying, but now miss that fact that BUPD is not letting TKE play Dominick the Donkey!#freedominick!

Back To Butler

Today is the first day of school after break. Yesterday when I got back to campus I spent ten minutes just unpacking and then going straight to Irwin library. These next three weeks are going to be a struggle for me.

We have three weeks until we are done with semester and then once again on break. I’m not really worried about finals, but I am more worried about all the work before finals that could end up changing my grade. This week I don’t think I will be relaxed until Thursday at 215 when my weekend starts.

Besides having to do work again I am really happy to be back on campus. I missed it. Home was fun, but I was ready to come back. I loved being able to be with family and friends. I even got to see goats at my dad’s neighbors! They are so cute!

My dad's neighbor's goats!

Anyway good luck to any college student for the next three weeks! We are almost done!

Crazy Week!

I am really glad this week is over now because everyone is on break, but also I had so much stuff due this week! Let me just break it down so it is easier to explain.

Monday:
meeting at 830 am w/business professor
go to Forever 21 to get things ready to go back to work!
Tuesday:
phase 2 outline due for FYS
business paper due
BU vs Chattanooga game
Wednesday:
1st generation meeting at 10
LC 103 paper due
College Mentors For Kids
Thursday:
Business paper due
Business Exam
Religions paper due

On Wednesday night I spent 4 hours in Irwin library with my friend Kelsey. Sadly, this is how much time I spend in the library sometimes! Thankfully, I was able to have some fun like going to the game on Tuesday to see the bulldogs win and unveil our new banner from last year’s run to the finals! It’s definitely exciting to finally be able to participate in the dawg pound!

Check out this video from LJ of the unveiling of the banner!

Life Is Just Too Good

Right now everyone is on Fall Break, but it doesn’t even feel like Fall Break to me. Yes, I am getting to see all my friends from high school, which is so awesome, but I have so much work to do! Here we go again with how much I have due:
Sunday: Sex, Gender, Sexuality Midterm due (I thought it was due Wednesday, I was wrong… and still have yet to do it.)
Tuesday: Freshmen Business Experience Research Paper due, Freshmen Year Seminar Research Phase 1 due, Freshmen Year Seminar Film Review paper due. Total: 9 pages.
I also cannot believe that next week is already Homecoming it’s so insane! I will most likely be talking about that within the next week!

Anyway, I have a lot to talk about considering last night I got to meet MAC MILLER. It was possibly the most thrilling experience of my life so far. I love Mac Miller and I got to be front row at his concert last night at the Egyptian Room, which is in downtown Indy, such a great venue!

Mac Miller and me!!!

FRONT ROW!

Needless to say, I am still in shock from last night. I am getting spoiled with all these concerts lately. It is insane! A lot of Butler people went to this concert, so basically Mac Miller should have just come to Butler. Just kidding, no but really.

Also as promised, here are more pictures from my sister’s wedding. She was so beautiful on her wedding day, and I am so happy for her and her husband! Currently they are in Puerto Rico for their first honeymoon. Later on they are going to Japan so my brother in law can meet our family! I am so jealous!

My sister and me! The weather was so perfect!!!

The bridesmaids! When we were doing this whole "walk towards the camera" thing I felt stupid, but it actually looks cool! haha

My sister and her husband, John! So pretty!

The pictures turned out amazing, and the photographer actually went to my high school! I can’t wait to see all the pictures!

Random video: This kid goes around to apple stores, and dances everywhere. HOW AWESOME. I saw this on my friend’s Facebook and was in astonished!
