I Could Get Used To This

My first day in Australia was exhausting. Fun fact I can’t sleep on planes, so I was basically up for an entire 48 hours. My flight was 4.5 hours from Indy to LAX and then 14 hours from LAX to Sydney. On top of that I basically missed Sunday, and also I didn’t go to sleep last night until 1130 PM. I tried to gun it out as much as possible so that I can get used to the time change here.

Anyway Australia is amazing. I haven’t seen much yet, but I’m really excited to explore. My university here is extremely different from Butler. It’s way more city than I expected. In all my pictures I saw it seemed like I would be in the suburbs and a lot of green space. Butler is in the city, but you don’t feel that way because a lot of our campus is a park setting so its really pretty. However, after moving into my apartment i’m starting to see how Macquarie is so different than Butler! I am in a suburb of Sydney, but it’s super busy and there’s a lot going on all the time!

Yesterday I went to the shopping centre that’s only a 5-10 minute walk from my apartment. It is insanely huge and I got lost. It also has an ice skating rink, which I find bizarre, but I guess Aussies need Winter too!

Macquarie Shopping Centre!

I haven’t taken any photos yet, but when I do I will be sure to share with you! Today I’m going to go grocery shopping so I’m sure that will be an experience. Tomorrow is my orientation day where I actually figure out classes and things like that so I’m excited!

Oh and one last thing it’s 82 and sunny here :)

Packing For Dummies

For most trips I take a lot of time and effort to plan everything out. However with Australia it seems like I am literally just packing every article of clothing I have. This makes packing seem so less important, which is definitely not the case.

While in Australia I will be there for three different seasons! When I arrive it will still be summer time and when I leave it will be the beginning of winter, which means I get my favorite season of the year fall! Although I have heard Australia seasons are a little warmer than ours, obviously :) Thankfully my airliner allows two free bags, but I’m worried about how I’m going to walk around with all this stuff.

I’m pretty sure I’m the last Butler person to leave for Australia. This will probably be my last blog before I leave! I have 2 days left, and I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m sure this is really reassuring to my family. However, it’s starting to really settle in that I will be gone for 4 months. I can’t wait to share my experiences with you guys. Hopefully I come back alive with no kangaroo attacks or koala attacks to report.

I know there are a lot of my friends at Butler that say they will live vicariously through me. Trust me I will be doing the same with you guys. While I know I will have the time of my life I will still miss each and every one of you at Butler. I can’t wait to hear how Spring Sports goes, how amazing Spring Break trips are, and I especially cannot wait to hear where all the seniors get their first real people job! Until then live away vicariously through my life. As always I will be blogging, tweeting, facebook, and Instagram!

I’m sure I’ve posted this before, but I cannot stop listening to this song!

Happy Winter Break To Me!

I AM FINALLY FINISHED WITH FINALS. To say I’m excited is an understatement. The final I took today will be the last time I am in a Butler classroom until August 27th 2014. It is crazy to think I will be gone that long, but I am really excited to start my journey in Australia. As all of you know I will keep you updated on all my adventures! However, until I leave I’ll still be keeping myself busy! Here’s what I will be doing until February comes around!

#1. Recruitment Counselor
From January 6th-12th I will be helping with recruitment! I have been recruitment counselor this year, but it really all comes down to the week of recruitment where I do the most of my work. I will be back on campus during this week helping the freshmen with their week during recruitment and also just having a lot of fun!

#2. Firebelly Marketing
I will be working basically full time or as much as full time as I can be until I leave for down under! I’m really excited to be back here as often as I was during the summer, and know everything that’s going on again! I also blog for Firebelly Marketing, so if you want to read some things I write for Firebelly click here! That leads to the main blog page, but if you scroll through you can find some of the blogs I have wrote!

#3. Planning for Australia
Obviously between all the other things I will be doing I will be getting ready for 4 months in Australia! I’m already starting to get all my stuff together but I have no idea what I’m packing or what I need to bring, so I need to start thinking about that. If you have been to Australia suggestions would be extremely helpful!

But first things first…. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE AND JIMMY FALLON ON SNL THIS WEEKEND…. yeah that’s what I’ll be doing.

Pinch Me, I’m Dreaming.

Ever since freshmen year I have been wanting to do one thing since I have been at Butler. OK, that might be slightly ridiculous I wanted to do a lot my freshmen year, but this is one of the only things left that I haven’t done yet. That one thing is study abroad. I am so excited to say that this dream is finally coming true, and I get to study abroad in SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA.

Yes, I realize this super touristy, but I’m still going to see it!

I have literally been waiting for this news ever since August, and last Friday I finally received the news I was waiting for. In February I will be leaving for Sydney. No worries I will still be blogging so it’s almost like you are with me the whole time! Even though I have been accepted for the exchange I still have a lot left to do. I never realized how much is involved with study abroad, but I can’t wait to see what this adventure brings me!

Macquarie

Macquarie University! The university I will be attending.

What’s really awesome is that a lot of my friends are going abroad as well! My study abroad program is a little weird in that Australia’s semester doesn’t start until February. I won’t be back until July, which is crazy to think about. While I know I will be missing a lot while I’m gone the major event I will be missing is seeing my niece grow for the first couple of months. My sister is due in the last week of January, so hopefully I’ll be able to meet my niece before I leave, but I won’t be able to see her for her first couple of months! Either way next semester is going to have a lot of exciting times for me! I can’t wait to experience and share with you all.

Third Times A Charm

I’ve taken a little hiatus from blogging as you can see, but I’m back now! I couldn’t be more excited but also bittersweet at the same time to say that I am a JUNIOR this year. Time definitely flies by in college and so while I’m trying to enjoy myself it’s weird to see some of my friends graduate early or even the seniors becoming depressed about not wanting to leave.

Anyway as I start to settle into being in school, there are a couple things I wanted to share with you about my summer! The last time I posted I was just starting my summer break, and shared with you some of my goals. Well this summer I learned A LOT. I started working for a social media marketing agency called Firebelly Marketing. It’s awesome and I actually am still working there during the Fall semester. Basically my summer was split between Firebelly and Butler. If you didn’t know I am a Butler Student Ambassador so I give tours to people who visit our campus, who knows you may have me as your tour guide!

firebelly

Some of the awesome people I work with at Firebelly!

While I did work a lot during the summer, trust me I still had fun. Oddly enough Indy’s summer concerts are still going on. During the summer I went to the Wiz Khalifa concert, which also had B.o.B, Trinidad James, and A$AP Rocky. As always I saw Dave Matthews Band. I will start having post in the coming weeks about concerts and definitely share photos and videos!

I also mentioned at the end of last semester my goal of studying abroad. That is soon becoming a reality. Just this week I turned in my application for study abroad! I’m so excited! While summer time is always a good time I will say I am glad to be back home at Butler. I am already struggling in classes, but the positive side is that I am starting to finally balance everything out. It’s strange to say but I can tell that I am kind of growing up. I seriously hope my dad doesn’t see this because he will make so much fun of me for saying that.

Basically the whole point of this was to say I’m back, so expect a concert blog at least once a week because I have so much to catch everyone up on when it comes to concerts. Also expect a blog once a week that will be showing you how my life is becoming to chaotic and I probably should be less involved… ha who am I kidding! Can’t wait to share with you guys my third year here at Butler!

I Like To Plan Ahead…

I like to plan ahead, but even this amount of planning ahead is even a little ridiculous for me. Currently, I have my housing for my junior and senior year completely squared away as well as my entire life for Junior year. If you find this insane, trust me I completely agree.

While I do love the small campus of Butler, it is sometimes difficult with housing. Since our basketball team’s final four runs a couple of years ago we have recently had a large increase in admissions. This increase is now causing Butler to think of new ways to increase the amount of housing we have on campus!  At Butler you can only live in a house when you are a senior or claim senior status. Before that you have to live in either the dorms or the apartments on campus. Since there are starting to be so many of us, houses are becoming more competitive to get, which is why many sophomores are already signing leases for their senior year. Crazy, right? I know.

Yesterday I officially signed off on where I will be living for my Junior year. I’m living in Apartment Village, and I am extremely excited because my roommates and I got everything we wanted! We wanted second floor, bay window, and a view of the Butler Bowl, Butler’s football field. We got all of that!

My home for junior year, apartment village!

For senior year I am living in a house with my current roommate, and a couple of other people. Our house is super nice and I am really excited!

On top of all this housing shenanigans, in a couple of days I have my meeting with my adviser to plan for all next year. In the Spring I plan to go abroad to Ireland or England, so I have a lot of planning to do with that as well. Basically right now, my entire life is a calendar, and I just keep making it more and more busy, but I think I am used to it by now.
