Hi I'm Katie, I am a sophomore at Butler! I am a Strategic Communications major with a focus in Public Relations. I love being involved in campus and hold positions in College Mentors for Kids and Dawg Pound. I am also a Butler Student Ambassador, Morton Finney Scholar, and a Recruitment Counselor. Group Text Messages: Life Ruiners

Group text messages are probably not as dramatic as I make them seem, but over this Spring Break I have experienced the madness that can come from group messages.

If you have an iPhone and all your friends do too, you may find it easy to just group message them. This means that typically there are three or more people in one text message. This text then receives every message that any one of those three or more people send.

This Spring Break my friends and I all went to different places. Kristina to Arizona, Carly to her grandma’s house, Em back home, and I’m in Florida. I don’t even remember who had the brilliant idea to start the group message but it has now gone to where every day there is some conversation going on. Last night while at dinner all the group chat was just emojis…. It got out of control.

While I’ll miss Florida, I am excited that I will actually be able to have these ridiculous conversations with my friends face to face instead of over the phone, because typically I have no idea what half the emojis they are using mean. Until then I guess I am stuck with the group messaging and waking up to 69 messages… yes that happened the other night to Carly.

Oh well, happy last day of Spring Break 2013. Here’s a little DMB for your enjoyment.

Mom Rita Saves The Day.

Living in a sorority has taught me a lot of different things. No one in my family has ever been Greek so there were a lot of things I did not know. For example, I had no idea what any of these things were:

- house mom
- cold dorm
- bid day buddy

I have learned to love all of these things. Especially one, which is the house mom. I love our house mom! A house mom basically takes care of things around the house. She does everything that we would probably not know how to handle. When something breaks we tell Mom Rita, or if there’s something we don’t like in the house we tell Mom Rita. She also is always there to listen to you and just talk if you need it.

This semester I have gotten really close with Mom Rita! I always love  talking to those who are older than me because they have so many experiences in life and Mom Rita is no different! It also helps that she has a candy tray in her room with all different types of candy fully stocked.

Basically in the end if I am ever in a situation where I need help I would definitely call Mom Rita.

Random, but since it’s Spring Break here’s a song I love listening to on the beach!

The Final Countdown

Sorry I have not been blogging lately, things are starting to get a little hectic lately. As many Butler students know Spring Break is just 9 days away. Although it does not seem that way at all. As usual many of us are struggling with the craziness that comes with breaks, which typically means that professors are springing last minute assignments and trying to attack you before Spring Break.

As of right now I am making a daily list of everything that I need to do and crossing it off because having a planner isn’t enough. Even doing this I still feel like there are not enough hours in the day. On top of all the school that is going on this week is initiation week. By the end of this week I will be able to call 55 new members my sisters finally. Although it’s a exciting time it means more crafting must commence! I have been crafting like it’s my job lately, which I can’t tell you what I have been making because then my littles and my guardian angel would know! When I can I’ll try and show you pictures of everything I have made.

Even though all this crazy stuff is going on I’m just trying to stay positive! Here’s an artist that I got recently re- addicted to! I listened to him a lot when he first came out, but forgot about him until he came up on Pandora! Here is Matisyahu!

Creative PowerPoints Recieve Big Rewards.

It’s that time of the year when many college students and even high school students can only thing about one thing. Spring Break. Whether you are headed to Florida, Cali, maybe even Texas everyone is counting down the days until the sun is shining and everyone is super tan.

Typically I don’t go on Spring Break, I usually just stay at home and work, but this year an opportunity came up that I couldn’t help but ask my parents. Due to my lack of being able to ask my parents in a normal way I made a PowerPoint. You can ask my dad this PowerPoint was very formal even at the end saying thank you for your time and consideration.

Jamaica!

I didn’t really think the PowerPoint was going to work considering I was asking to go to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, but low and behold the Spring Break Gods looked down upon me and blessed me because my parents are letting me go! I get to go on a 5 day cruise to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands! I’m so excited.

Cruise!!

The moral of this story is that PowerPoint presentations can actually really work so maybe everyone should just ask in PowerPoint. My dad’s response to this: ” I hope you are spending this much time on your school work as you are on your PowerPoints.” No worries Dad!

Spring Break Meltdown

Today was the first day back from Spring Break, and I think I can speak for everyone that we all still feel like we are on break. In Indy, the weather is so nice right now. Not to call out my friend Lindsay but she went back home to California, and we had better weather than Cali!

Right now the weather here is near the 80′s and is expected to be like this until Friday. On Friday it is expected to be in the 60′s , which is still crazy for Indy this time of year. Going to class and focusing has been so hard today. Since I have a break from 1-5 in the afternoon I decided to sit outside on the mall. When weather is this great I absolutely love campus. You see kids laying out on the lawn, boys playing campus golf, and so many people just out having fun.

The only unfortunate thing about this weather is because it is so nice, and because everyone wants to go do homework outside there are some weird tan lines going on. Currently, I have a tan line from my shirt and where I sat my computer on my legs. This will be extremely attractive later. Just a heads up to anyone planning on touring Butler, if you plan to tour this month do it this week or next week! The weather is so gorgeous.
