If you would have entered Hinkle Fieldhouse at 3 AM in the morning this past Saturday you probably saw something very unexpected. Karaoke, Dance offs, Volleyball finals, Basketball finals and all sorts of other events that would not be happening on a normal Saturday morning.
This past weekend was Spring Sports Spectacular. It’s a twelve hour event where all of Greek life and also Independents get together in order to raise money and support for the Special Olympics. Although it is for a good cause many houses take it very serious and get very competitive. The independent teams are usually very good, because many athletes cannot do Greek life, so a lot of independent teams have division one athletes on their teams!
I was originally suppose to play tennis, but it got rained out. Instead I administered a spelling bee contest, which was terrible. I am terrible at saying large words. Then I played ultimate Frisbee at 4 or 5 AM. Honestly, I don’t remember because of how tired I was and now continue to be. Either way it was so much fun. Next year I plan to do way more events, because it’s fun! Just from Spring Sports there was $5200 raised, which doesn’t include the amount of money from Polar Plunge, which also gets donated to the Special Olympics! I can’t wait until next year to do Spring Sports again.
Here’s a video of Spring Sports Spectacular from two years ago!
