Typically for most students summer is a time to relax and enjoy life. For me summer is all about saving money, which means I need to stop spending money. Unfortunately my friends love to spend money it seems like. I really don’t have that option right now. Here’s why:
#1. Study Abroad (hopefully)
Next year I plan on studying abroad in Australia during the spring semester. While I hope that it all works out that means I really need to save money in order to do all the things I want. I also am trying to figure out how much flights are from Australia to Japan so that I can possibly visit family there.
#2. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
Say whatever you want, but I must attend the Justin Timberlake concert. I am willing to forgo all other summer concerts just to see him in December. This probably seems extremely ridiculous, but I can’t help it. Buying Justin Timberlake tickets though isn’t cheap, which is just another reason among others why saving money is mandatory this summer.
More importantly I pay for a lot of my own things. I pay for gas, my clothes (except for work, thanks dad) and going out with friends. On the top of those things gas is the most important, however, sometimes I forget that minor detail and spend gas money on other things. I am trying to work on that.
While this summer will still somewhat be fun, I definitely need to save as much as I can. This probably means that I will need to teach myself something so I can consume my time without shopping…

Working at Forever 21 for three years has definitely affected my life in many ways. While I met some amazing and also very interesting people there I also learned that saving your paycheck is more important than spending money on clothes and rings. Although sometimes you just can’t help but by things.
Every one in while Forever 21 will have these insane sales where everything is an additional 50% off of clearance item, which is ridiculous because items such as rings are then only 50 cents. Do you really think I would pass that up? This whole sale is what started my ring obsession. It doesn’t help that most rings there at only $2.80 anyway, but the on sale it just makes everything ten times worse.
All the rings I currently own!
As you can see from the picture above it might be getting a little crazy, but trust me it cannot just be any ring that can make it into my collection. I am extremely picky, but I will still probably be adding many more to this. The sad thing is that I know when one is missing… Happy ring shopping!
Being a college student can sometimes be the greatest experience and the worse experience all at the same time. The reason I say this is because in college you get so many opportunities to do things, but you are also really broke in college. It’s almost like you are getting teased all the time.
Unfortunately it seems like everyone in the world knows you are broke and tries to get you to buy. Unlike high school in college you have a lot of free time. Whether you choose to use that free time for studying is up to you. For me, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are really easy days. I only have one class from 9-950 and then I’m done for the rest of the day. This is awesome except for the fact that sometimes I like to use my free time online shopping.
I am addicted to online shopping, and lately I’m addicted to the finer things in life, which I feel like I have my sister to thank for that. I thought I would write this blog to possibly give peoples ideas as to what they can get me. Just kidding this is more of me just continuously teasing myself into the things I want but don’t necessarily need. Here are the top things I want lately, and you will understand why my fantasy life of luxury is getting out of hand.
#1. Ultimate Short UGGS – $220
The Ultimate collection of UGGS is different from their classic because it is a more heavy duty shoe intended to last longer. The classic sole is more of a foam type of padding that doesn’t last. The Ultimate on the other hand has a really thick sole that tends to last way longer.
The exact pair I want!
#2. Michael Kors Watch – $225-250
I have an obsession with watches. I think watches are so pretty. I do understand how ridiculous it is that I want a Michael Kors watch, but his watches are so pretty and plus they are huge, which I like. I’m not trying to be over the top they are just really fashionable and I feel like my wrist is lonely.
I can't figure out which one I want, they are all so pretty!
#3. Victoria Secret Yoga Pants/Sweaters – $50 +
My sister got me a Victoria Secret gift card and instead of buying underwear or bras I got yoga pants on sale. I’m obsessed with these yoga pants but if they are not on sale they are close to $50, which is kind of ridiculous. In the words of Despicable Me, “IT’S SO FLUFFY!”
I’m currently saving up for the boots first, because those will come in more handy. Hopefully I’ll have enough money by the end of September to be able to buy them! It’s such a great feeling when you realize you bought nice things with your own money! I felt so accomplished when I bought my Coach rain boots last year, and every time I wear them it makes me realize all the work I put into paying for this! Ahh the things I do for fashion.
The money! College is not all about the money! On Thursday, I went back to my high school to visit some of my teachers and see how were they doing. While I was there I saw a lot of the now, upperclassmen, that I used to be in yearbook with and some other extracurricular activities. It was only last year that I was in their position looking at colleges and trying to decide where to go. Now, as many of them continue to look and find out what is the best fit for them they all had one thing to say about Butler, “It is too expensive!”
I thought the same thing before coming to Butler. I never thought there would be anyway my parents or myself would be able to afford Butler, but I never let that be a deciding factor. I applied to 5 private schools and 2 public and although my parents thought I was crazy and would never get the money for private I found a way. Private schools are just as attainable as public. Even though the economy may be doing bad, there is so much money floating around in scholarships, grants, and so on. If there is anything that comes out of this rant, DO NOT let money make your decision.
As long as you work hard, and know your goals you can achieve anything you want. That may sound extremely cheesy but it’s true. I knew I wanted a private school, and I knew that no matter what I would have to search for the money, but with Butler the money found me. My admissions counselor saw that I met the criteria for a scholarship and I was invited to attend an interview. In the end I received the scholarship.
College is a big decision, but don’t allow your decision to come solely down to money. Now I have to get back to studying!
Yesterday Butler basketball had their first official practice! Check out this video about Ronald Nored as they follow him through the season!
