My Parents Would Be So Proud

In high school people always say that junior year is the hardest year. I never realized that applied to college. The start of junior year I felt like I was drowning in school work, and I still kind of feel that way. However, I feel like I am starting to get a grasp on my classes a little bit more.

I’m not going to lie the past couple of years at Butler I probably could have done a lot better school wise. My parents probably hate reading that sentence, but I probably could have studied a little more. I’m not saying my grades are terrible I have all A’s and B’s, but I probably could have had all A’s. This year my parents can be so proud in knowing that me and Irwin (one of the libraries on campus) are becoming best friends. I’m not really happy with the fact that I have a “spot” in Irwin now, but seriously… don’t take my spot in Irwin.

Irwin Library!

I will even tell you my spot in Irwin. It’s second floor when you come up the stairs on the left and the second table in the stacks. Yes, that’s how many times I go to Irwin now. My friends are starting to wonder if something happened to me. I have always studied but now I’m even staying in on Friday nights sometimes. Even I have began to wonder what is wrong with me, but now I think I have things pretty down pat so I don’t have to do any more Friday nights.

A lot of my days I have huge breaks in the middle so I have been going to Irwin to get things done and out of the way. My freshmen and sophomore year I would have never done that. I always left studying to late at night, and while I still do study late at night I do way more during the day than I ever have before. So I guess you could say little me is growing up and becoming more responsible. Did I mention I turn 21 in a month? Real life is scary kids.

For a little fun and since I love Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake, here’s some lessons on End Zone Dancing.

Why Libraries Scare Me

Recently I just received a job as a Butler Student Ambassador. As a Butler Student Ambassador we give tours to those interested in looking at Butler. Typically on these tours many parents ask the typical questions about weekends, class sizes, majors offered, etc. You also get questions about where to study, and this is where the situation for me gets difficult.

While majority of people think the library is the best place in the world to study, I personally hate it. There are three main reasons why I hate the library:

1.) It’s too quiet
2.) I get easily distracted
3.) I do weird things

To start out with reason number one, I know you are probably saying that is the whole purpose of a library and studying. Personally though I cannot focus in dead silence. My roommates will be the first to tell you that when I have my headphones in I am not talking to anyone, and completely focused on what I am doing. In a library typically my music is too loud in my headphones to the point where those around me can hear it, so that’s probably not good.

For reason number two, you may be wondering how one gets distracted in the library. Well I am like a five year old, I see a shiny object and have to see what it is. The same is true for when people come in out of the library I always want to see who it is, and then when I see who it is and I know them I either want to text them, say hi, or snapchat them. Yes, this is what my life has ended up to.

Finally for reason number three, I do a lot of weird things. If any of you were to receive snapchats from me then you probably know that I am not normal. I also don’t like to look presentable when studying, I would rather just wear sweatpants, no make up, and not have to wear shoes.

Libraries are just not for me, but if you really want to know we have two at Butler that are pretty awesome (Irwin and the Science library).

DONE

My first semester of my sophomore year is officially done. I had four finals in two days, and basically had to study non stop. Here is the basic life of a college student during finals week. Play massive amounts of Pandora with either complete rage music or very calming music. Then drink tons of caffeine or Starbucks or even use every possible free thing Butler provides you whether it be food, drinks or any other stress less thing you can come up. Then try to find rooms in Jordan, Gallahue, Irwin, or any other possible building you can think of. After all that is accomplished study away your life as much as possible.

The only problem with this idea is that Butler decided to have a speech competition held on our campus on the Saturday before finals which typically is intense cram time for many students. Many students had trouble finding a room to study in, but I was able to find a place in Gallahue to study. On Monday I had my Strategic Communications final and my Music final for my PCA. On Tuesday I had my Media Literacy final and my Spanish final. Needless to say I am glad that I am officially done with everything. I studied pretty much all day everyday from Saturday to Tuesday.

Now that finals are done I’m just hanging around campus basically going home whenever I feel like it since I live so close. I hope everyone isn’t dying from finals!

Here’s two girls I couldn’t stop watching during finals week to keep me laughing!

Let The Finals Begin

I’m getting all too familiar with the view at Irwin. Second floor is my normal spot, you can usually find me in the stacks somewhere usually with my friend Kelsey. Currently, I am studying for my Religions of the World final that I have tomorrow at one.

I already got my Starbucks fix, which I needed because I already took a nap at 630 – 7 in Irwin. Speaking of Starbucks if you didn’t know they have a secret menu! It’s awesome. Right now I am drinking a Red mocha, which is white chocolate/chocolate mocha and two shots of raspberry. Click the link to see the awesome secret menu!

Shockingly I am not too stressed about finals week. I am slightly worried, but all this studying has me pumped. I feel pretty confident so hopefully I am not jinxing myself. Plus Butler has been awesome with their stress less week, which they had really awesome things. They had dogs come in, doodle night at A Town and so many other things.

Hopefully all this fun/stress free life stays with me through finals week! Good luck everyone! Just to keep you from not going crazy, check out what Butler frat, Phi Delt, did to their house! So awesome!

24 Hours and Counting

In 24 hours I take my first college exam. I am freaking out. Exams in college count for way more of your grade than they do in high school, and that scares me. Not only that this test is over the Hindu religion with words that I cannot even pronounce. If you know me around campus, and do not see me studying please yell at me!

I have started to realize where are good places for me to study and where are bad places. I don’t understand how anyone could study in their room. I cannot focus whatsoever in my room. There are way too many distractions. Honestly what has helped me is going to Jordan Hall!

Jordan Hall!

Jordan Hall usually has a lot of classrooms that stay unlocked for students to study in. I like it better than Irwin because I feel like I can spread things out more and really get more accomplished. Even though I don’t really like Irwin, I love the science library that is stuck between Holcomb and the Pharmacy building!

Science Library!I have my own little special hidden place there, but last time it was taken so obviously not that hidden anymore. I am able to focus so well in that library because barely anyone talks. You could possibly hear a pin drop in their. Also if I am struggling to focus I go to HRC and run. Even though I hate running, it usually helps me focus on my homework!

The track at the HRC!

Good luck to everyone taking exams this week. If my exam goes well you may hear about it on here, but if it is not so hot… well let’s just ignore that!

And I know this is old, but can we please give Brad Stevens a shout out for making Butler proud with his dance moves? I know it’s college football season, but I can’t help but get a little excited about college basketball.
