Weekend Update: Introducing Sophia and A Butler Win!

This past weekend was pretty exciting to say the least. On Friday my sister and her husband had their first child! Sophia Kumiko was born at 441 PM, and she is the most precious girl I have ever seen. Everyone in our family is so excited, and now I can say that I have 2 nieces and 2 nephews!

My niece, Sophia!

After seeing Sophia at the hospital on Friday night I rushed to campus to see my sorority sisters! It was one of our sisters 22nd birthday. We had a ton of fun and even sang to Living on a Prayer, so I guess it doesn’t get much better than that. I also learned that iPhone’s can last in the snow for over 4 hours… no worries everyone it wasn’t my phone just my best friend’s phone :) On top of all that I FINALLY GOT TO SEE MY BIG SIS. She was gone in Spain last semester so seeing her was awesome.

I was pretty much excited for everyday of this weekend, but all for different reasons. Saturday I was excited because it was the first basketball game I have been to in a very long time! With winter break and recruitment I missed a good 2-3 games, which is a lot for me. We really needed a win in the Big East on Saturday, and we got it in overtime. On top of that I gave Trip, our mascot, his bone at the beginning of the game. I’m so proud that he doesn’t drop his bone anymore!

Butler vs Marquette; win in overtime!

All in all it was a pretty good weekend. I miss not living on campus anymore, but being able to go back on the weekends isn’t too shabby. Expect a post about me complaining about this. Until then have a great Monday!

Ahead of the Game

While I love my family I find it funny at times at the things they don’t know about applications on the iPhone. It is interesting to me how many applications there are and how many college students it takes in a matter of seconds for everyone to find it.

For example, currently there is a ton of people using snapchat, which I mentioned in my last blog. Snapchat is an application where you can take a picture and send it to your friend, but the picture only last how long you want it to. If you decide you want the picture to show for 5 seconds it shows for 5 seconds, and then disappears. You can never see the photo again after that. This has basically caused an entire outburst of the most unattractive photos that you could ever take.

When I explained to my mom what snapchat was she related it to Mission Impossible and said “oh it’s like mission impossible it self destructs in 3,2,1… boom.” Yes my mom also did the sound effects with it. My sister on the other hand doesn’t understand why snapchat is even used or the purposed and says that we are crazy. I haven’t even tried to explain this to my dad, because I’m worried about how long the explanation will take, and my brother is pretty much stuck in parentville.

Once I find out another application I am sure that will be all the rage and that snapchat will soon be forgotten, but for now you might want to try snapchat. Just in case you’re confused here’s a video on how to use snapchat.

Today’s the Day!

At 335 this morning by brother texted me they were on the way to the hospital which means only one thing, MY NEPHEW IS COMING! His due date was 3 days ago so I feel like it’s about time!

My brother and his wife have two other kids, so I’ve been an aunt for a while. I have a nephew and a niece, Sam and Olivia, but I’m excited for the newest edition. If they didn’t change his name last minute I’m pretty sure his name is going to be Stanley Kenji Cessna. All of the kids have Japanese middle names and typically their first name is a family name. This may sound really bad, but I’m hoping that Stanley looks more Asian than Sam or Olivia. My niece and nephew look completely white. They have really light colored hair and blue eyes.

My nephew!

My niece!

I was the third child and ended up looking the most Asian out of my siblings so maybe that will happen to Stanley! Either way I am still excited whether he looks Asian or not. It’s always fun to have a new baby around. Sam and Olivia are quite the handful, but I’m sure they will help with Stanley a lot!

I don't know if you can tell here, but I look the most Asian between my siblings!

What Groupon Has Done To My Family

If you have read any of my blogs from last year, you may know that I like to make fun of my family… A LOT, mainly my mom. Although as my sister gets older she is starting to do similar things as my mom and now it’s becoming hilarious.

The latest fix for my mom and sister has been Groupon. Groupon is a website where deals for services, items, food, and pretty much anything you can think of are put on the website daily. Although Groupon is amazing and does have great deals that you should check out, my mom and sister are taking it to the extremes! During the summer, my mom surprised me with diamond earrings, and a dinner to a Japanese restaurant. My mom is not a big spender so when this happened I was a little weirded out. Next thing I know she bought a purse, headphones, and other random things. Her response to where she gets these things in her Japanese accent, “oh, groupon.”

My sister on the other hand has now dragged me into workouts that she bought off of Groupon. At first I was apprehensive, but now that I have been going to these classes I love it. We are both going to Indy Boot Camps. It’s kind of like the show The Biggest Loser. It’s nonstop workout for an hour and we go Monday, Wednesday, Thursday from 615-715. I have Spanish from 6-740 on Thursdays so I can’t go but I try to make up at the HRC (Health and Rec Cetner). There will be a full blog on this later because basically it’s kicking me in the butt.

Now that my family seems to be obsessed with Groupon it has now become my addiction to check Groupon everyday, which is terrible because lately I have started this shopping addition. I’m sure my Dad is thrilled.

In case you missed seeing Blue 2 and Blue 3, here’s a video for the summertime of them eating some Watermelon.

American Problems

These past couple of weeks my sister, brother in law, and mom have been in Japan. My mom is Japanese and her whole side of the family still lives there. This was the first time my brother in law was meeting my mom’s side of the family, and the first time my sister has been back to Japan in a very long time. If there is anything I learned from their trip it was:

1) they think my brother in law looks like an actor…
2) they think Americans (mainly my brother) are fat.

They did not say that Americans are fat, but from hearing what my sister said about not being able to find large shirts or even large anything for that matter it obviously shows that everything is LARGE in America. My uncle had to rent a car just to pick up my family because although their car is large enough to hold everyone it was not large enough to hold everyone’s luggage.

Some of the things my mom, sister, and brother in law got for me!

People always ask me how Japanese are so tiny, because many think that because they eat so much white rice they wouldn’t be that tiny or healthy. The reason is because as Americans we decide to eat ridiculous portions. I am no health expert, and I am guilty of these large portions, but that’s probably the main reason why we are bigger than Asians. I still find it entertaining though to hear my Japanese grandpa’s only advice to my brother “lose weight, so you can be healthy and live long” My grandpa is in his late 80’s, and still walks around everywhere. I hope I can be as healthy as him when I get older!

Don’t be afraid to go to Japan. My family is only harsh to us, and it’s all out of love, so no worries!

My Life Should Be A Sitcom

I have realized one thing, my family should have their own show. But we should only have holiday special episodes, because for some reason on the holidays my family goes insane.

We did Christmas on Saturday. We open gifts from youngest to oldest, which in itself is where the jokes start. The ages go from 2 to 51. My niece, Olivia, is the youngest and my dad is the oldest.

The youngest are clearly the funniest to watch open presents. My nephew, Sam, thinks everything is the best gift ever and after every gift he usually says, “THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED” or he says “WOW, THIS IS AWESOME” no matter what he finds something awesome whether it be pajamas/slippers to his transformers and stars wars gifts.

Kids opening gifts!

The siblings, my brother, sister, and I all have weird jokes between each other, but especially my brother and sister since they are closer in age. A few years ago my sister got my brother a Mu-Tang Shirt, which is a joke of Wu-Tang, an 80’s rap group. This year my sister got a Wu-Tang book about the history of Wu-Tang. What couldn’t have been planned was that my brother was wearing his Mu-Tang shirt. Ridiculous.

My brother and his mu tang, wu tang obesssion.

On top of that my dad is insane. He got a smokehouse. Basically it smokes foods and tenderizes them. He acted like a five year old, and now cannot stop talking about this awesome smokehouse. He also got a new coat in which he thought it was necessary to model for everyone. Then on top of that my dad likes to explain every gift and why it was bought for you. My brother and his wife, and my sister and her husband both got panini makers. This was my dad’s reasoning “Well I know you guys like food, so…. I figured this would be perfect” My brother in law’s response “Yeah, you know we like to stay alive”

This may not be all that funny to you, but had you seen this on a video I’m sure you would be cracking up. My family is ridiculous, insane, but most of all funny, and I’m glad that I get to spend time with them. I hope everyone enjoyed their time with their family too!
