Things I Take For Granted: Butler Edition

I know for a fact that everyday I take a lot of things for granted. For that reason I thought instead of talking about everything I take for granted, I would just do a version of things I take for granted here at Butler. That way this blog won’t last you five days. I’ll go ahead and mention three things I take for granted at Butler. This entire blog post is going to be so cheesy, so bare with me while I tell you more reasons why I love Butler a little too much.

#1. Encouragement
This week has been a little stressful for me. While most students had their midterms before Fall Break all of my tests seemed to fall on this week. However, I realized that my friends and professors were so encouraging to me. Every time I saw them they would ask how my tests were going or that I would be fine and ace the test. Some of my friends even texted me to ask how the test went after they knew I had the class. You may be thinking that of course my close friends would do that, but it’s not just close friends. It’s everyone. I love when I’m walking around campus and you can hear people saying Good Luck to each other or that everything will be OK.  It helps me realize that this really is a community of care which is something that is constantly repeated here.

#2. Hinkle Fieldhouse/Butler Sports
This should come to no surprise to anyone who knows me, but how could I write a blog about taking things for granted and not include Butler sports and of course, Hinkle Fieldhouse. Everyday when I wake up I get to look out of the window of my apartment and see the Butler Bowl and Hinkle Fieldhouse. The other day I started to realize how much I take this for granted. ESPN released at the start of the school year a bucket list of places to go to at different colleges, and Hinkle made that list. There are so many people who value the history behind Hinkle and what it means. When it comes to sports I take for granted everyday the fact that I can just show my ID and get into games. Did I mention our tickets are free for all sports? For basketball we have to pick up tickets, but still they are free. It’s a little insane when you think about it, but I take this for granted as well.

#3. Community of Care
I know I mentioned this a little bit in the first reason, but seriously I can’t tell you how many times I have experienced this, and not just with students. This year I have been really struggling in Spanish. When I went up to my professor after class to ask where I could find help or a tutor, he said if I realized I am paying him to teach me, and told me that he was my tutor. Ever since then I have been going to his office every Tuesday and Thursday before a quiz. I don’t care in saying that I’ve cried in his office because I get so overwhelmed, but instead of making me feel completely stupid he’s helped me so much with Spanish! I’m so grateful for how helpful all my professors and my adviser have been to me.

As you can see I take for granted some major things at Butler. I have started to realize how much I am going to miss this the closer and closer I get to possibly going abroad!

Just for some enjoyment… this little kid makes my day!
