Catch Ya Later 2013

While it may be 2014 already I still feel that 2013 deserves a proper goodbye. I couldn’t think of a better way than blogging! A lot happened in 2013, but I’m excited to see what happens in the coming year. However, I’m trying to live in the moment since everyone who knows me knows I like to plan a little too much! Below are a few of my favorite moments of the 2013 year! (in no particular order)

#1. College Game Day
I mentioned this in my previous post, but College Game Day was probably the best day of Butler basketball I’ve ever witnessed. The Final Four runs happened before I was at Butler, so those of us who didn’t get to personally witness those games can agree that the whole experience that comes with College Game Day was amazing. That Butler vs Gonzaga game will be a game that I will never forget. I still get chills watching this video.

#2. Recruitment/Bid Day/Big Little Reveal
While I still cannot say what house I’m in yet (one week left), recruitment was one of my favorite weeks! Last year was my first time experiencing recruitment from the side of being in the sorority, and now this year I will be experiencing it in a different way again as a recruitment counselor! Being able to get littles and do all of the traditional sorority stuff was so exciting. I can’t wait to be able to wear my letters again!

#3. Meeting my nephew
Last year on Valentine’s Day, my nephew Stanley was born! He is so cute, and I’m so thankful to have him in my life. Now I’m excited to meet my niece, Sophia, in a couple weeks! I’m so excited for my siblings and the families they are starting!

Meeting my nephew for the first time!

#4. Concerts/Sporting Events in Indy
This year I feel like I went to an overload of events in Indy. I can’t complain I loved every minute it of it. From seeing Dave Matthews to being able to accept a check for College Mentors for Kids on the court at the Pacers game I can say that I am one lucky girl. That’s one awesome thing about Butler being in Indy is the amount of events we get to experience as students here. Check out my other blogs about Imagine Dragons, and Mumford and Sons.

On the court at halftime!

Receiving a check from Indianapolis Lighting and Power at the Bulls vs Pacers Game was awesome!

#5. #twentyfun
Turning 21 was  one of the most fun nights I had with my closest friends. I loved being able to go out with majority of my friends (sorry not 21ers!). I’m not going to lie it is nice to order a drink while out to dinner, but also still a little weird to drink with my parents. Cheers everyone!

With my friends for my 21st!

While 2013 was awesome, I will say there was one sad point that all Butler students can agree on. The loss of Blue 2 was something that was very heavy on the hearts of everyone at Butler. While we now have Trip a lot of us had grown to love Blue 2. We will always miss Blue 2. He lived a great a life. Seeing 2 Final Fours and becoming America’s favorite dog isn’t too shabby.

Nice to know ya 2013, but here I come 2014.

What Groupon Has Done To My Family

If you have read any of my blogs from last year, you may know that I like to make fun of my family… A LOT, mainly my mom. Although as my sister gets older she is starting to do similar things as my mom and now it’s becoming hilarious.

The latest fix for my mom and sister has been Groupon. Groupon is a website where deals for services, items, food, and pretty much anything you can think of are put on the website daily. Although Groupon is amazing and does have great deals that you should check out, my mom and sister are taking it to the extremes! During the summer, my mom surprised me with diamond earrings, and a dinner to a Japanese restaurant. My mom is not a big spender so when this happened I was a little weirded out. Next thing I know she bought a purse, headphones, and other random things. Her response to where she gets these things in her Japanese accent, “oh, groupon.”

My sister on the other hand has now dragged me into workouts that she bought off of Groupon. At first I was apprehensive, but now that I have been going to these classes I love it. We are both going to Indy Boot Camps. It’s kind of like the show The Biggest Loser. It’s nonstop workout for an hour and we go Monday, Wednesday, Thursday from 615-715. I have Spanish from 6-740 on Thursdays so I can’t go but I try to make up at the HRC (Health and Rec Cetner). There will be a full blog on this later because basically it’s kicking me in the butt.

Now that my family seems to be obsessed with Groupon it has now become my addiction to check Groupon everyday, which is terrible because lately I have started this shopping addition. I’m sure my Dad is thrilled.

In case you missed seeing Blue 2 and Blue 3, here’s a video for the summertime of them eating some Watermelon.

The Secrets Out.

If you didn’t know we have a new bulldog on campus! Blue 2 is still around, but he now has Blue 3 aka Trip to teach and learn the ways of being a Butler bulldog.

Blue 3 aka Trip!

Butler wasted no time in getting Trip his own Twitter, Facebook, and website started. There are many rumors going around about Trip, and whether Blue 2 is healthy or not. According to reliable sources from Butler, Blue 2 is still healthy and well, so Trip will most likely not be stepping up anytime soon.

Trip is all the rage around campus right now. People are trying to find any chance to be able to see Trip. Today there was a meet and greet with him at Starbucks. He seems really sleepy most of the time, but I would be too with the amounts of events he is doing! His announcement was a huge deal, and many news channels were here on his introduction day at Hinkle. The day Trip was announced at Hinkle there was an audience of over 10000 people awaiting his arrival. He has also been on many news stations around the area. Check out this video for the day when Blue 3 was announced from Blue 2’s point of view!

If you want to get to know more about Trip I suggest you check out his twitter, facebook, or website! He is possibly the cutest puppy I have ever seen! Many tweets from Butler students said something like, “The only school I know where students will flock to Starbucks to see a dog #butlerstudentproblems” I will have to agree, I am pretty sure we are the only school to see this happen, and also see grown college men gushing over a dog.

Ever Wonder?

The other day someone tweeted,” I always wonder what people are listening to when I walk past them.” I have to admit I always question this too! So I thought why not write about what I have been listening to lately. I listen to a lot of different music, and hopefully some of these artists are new to you! I love spreading new music.

I have an issue with just narrowing down music choices, so instead I will tell you what my top five pandora stations I have been listening to lately are!

1. Fitz and the Tantrums
I mentioned them on a previous blog. I first heard about them when going to Jimmy Fallon. They are actually pretty good live, which is sometimes hard to come by with the singers today. Some of my favorite songs they sing are Moneygrabber, Don’t Gotta Work It Out, and Breakin’ The Chains of Love. Their Pandora is awesome and has songs from a ton of different people like Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong to Adele and Kate Earl. It’s really funky and I love it!

2. J. Cole
I’ve been listening to J. Cole for a while. Some people don’t think he’s that great, but I think he’s pretty awesome. His new single Work Out has an awesome beat and is great for just listening to in the car or working out, but I especially like his songs Lost Ones and Nobody’s Perfect, because I love the lyrics. I got to see him at the celebrity basketball game. He’s not that great at basketball but he’s good at rapping and on his Pandora you can hear artists like Drake, Tyga, and Kid Cudi.

3. The Xx
The Xx is a band that isn’t really well known but has awesome songs. Songs such as Intro and Shelter are some of my favorites from them. Most of their songs are pretty chilled out and mellow, but I think that is what I like about them. On their Pandora you can here songs from the Pixies, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Radiohead.

4. Dave Matthews Band
I can never get enough Dave Matthews Band. People consider Dave fans as bandwagoners, but thanks to my sister being ten years older than me I have been listening or hearing Dave since I was five, and I have grown to love him. Plus he’s coming back to Indy this summer, which last summer he didn’t and I was pretty much devastated. What’s great about Dave is that he is awesome live and you’ll have an awesome time whether sunshine or pouring rain. Some of my favorite dave songs are Crash Into Me, #41, and Two Step. I pretty much like a lot of Dave’s old stuff. On his Pandora you can hear from bands like Blind Melon, Spin Doctors, and live acoustic versions of popular songs.

5. Florence and the Machine
I love Florence and the Machine. I have not seen her live, but I have heard live. She was in Indy one time and her concert was outside and I could hear it and she sounded awesome! Her voice is pretty much insane, and you get this extreme full sound from all her songs. Artists you might hear on her Pandora would be Bon Iver, City and Colour, and Mazzy Star.

One other thing I wanted to mention before I go off to do homework! If you have time it takes only 5 minutes to do both. Vote for Ronald Nored on the Lowe’s Senior Class Award, he’s been slipping a little bit in the ranks and he definitely deserves the win! Also vote for our mascot Blue 2! He’s up for the Shorty Awards and is currently in second place! Click on the links to vote!

Acting Like a Five Year Old

I am almost positive that last night I was acting like a child. I was in awe the entire time. You may be thinking what was I in awe of? Was it Butler basketball? No. Blue 2? Awe inspiring, but No. No it is not either of those things. Instead, I was in awe of the NUTCRACKER. Last night was opening night and it was so awesome. One of our bloggers, Olivia, has been writing about it lately, too! She also has showtimes and dates on her blog!

Even though I live only 25 minutes away from Butler I had never gone to the Nutcracker here. Although, I am glad that I waited. I don’t think when I was younger I would have appreciated it as much. I was in awe of how awesome the dancers were. My sister in law is a ballerina and actually went to Butler for a couple years, and she always told me how awesome Nutcracker was, but I had no idea. Everything was great. The costumes, the dancing, the backdrops, and the music were fantastic.

If you have the time to go I definitely suggest it. Bring friends too! Eight other girls on my floor and myself went together and it was a lot of fun!

The girls that went to the Nutcracker on my floor!

On a more serious note, the other night while IU was playing North Carolina State they honored the late NC State coach Jimmy V. I watched his speech given 8 weeks before he passed to cancer. It is something that is truly inspirational and continues to show me that living life in the moment is so important. It may be a long video but it is definitely worth it.

The Bigger Picture

Even though I was recovering from sickness, the stomach flu to be exact, I couldn’t help myself but go to my friend’s haunted hayride last night. It’s something my friend’s family does every year. It’s really cool because my friend’s dad aka Poppa P loves doing it. I think Halloween is a holiday that suits him very well.

A lot of the family and their friends will get dressed up to scare the little kids and big kids (adults) that come through to get a good scare. Whether we are dressed up as Frankenstein, girls getting arms chainsawed, or creepy people scaring up on you, we always try to get a good scare. To some people the goal is to make the little kids cry, but I feel bad doing that. It’s fun to see people jump a little.

Here are some pictures from last years!

This was my first time doing the haunted hayride and I realized that it is more than just something to do on Halloween instead it’s something that people appreciate and are really thankful for. The friend’s family that runs the haunted hayride doesn’t take any money everything is free. Poppa P spent over 20 hours putting this year’s set up together, but he would never tell you that because that’s not the point.

At the end of this year’s haunted hayride a neighbor left a thank you note saying how grateful she is for what they do and hopes they continue to do it. That’s what made me realize that this was much more than just some random hayride, but instead it brought community and people together. That may sound cheese ball to you, but first of all I am a cheese ball, and second of all sometimes the truth is cheesy.

So shout out to those who bring the community together and also shout out to my best friend and his family who I am so grateful to have in my life and who were teaching me the Butler Way before I even got to Butler.

Here’s a video with our obsession of Blue 2, and also his baby bro that he loves to tweet about.

My Obsession With DAWGS

As I said in my previous post, homecoming was this past weekend. This year’s theme was I Love the 90’s. The team I was on was with Schwitzer, Sigma Nu, and Kappa Alpha Theta. It was so much fun! I was in the parade and our float was the magic school bus, and we all dressed up like little kids!

There were so many people at homecoming, and although our homecoming may not be as big as a major state school homecoming everyone at butler homecoming just seems so happy to be back home! I was especially excited because Blue 2 was out, and so was Hink taking pictures with everybody! Me and my friends got a little excited.

Shannon, Lindsay, Kelsey, and I with Blue 2!

Definitely made my day. Well that and also the five billion other things we did on homecoming weekend and day! Also shout out to the Butler bookstore for my awesome hat and sweatshirt. My hat was only $20 and my sweatshirt only $15, pretty fantastic. Anyway, I hope everyone had a fabulous and safe homecoming weekend!

Does anyone think our football players need this? Just kidding.
