For the first time in 4 years I DID NOT WORK BLACK FRIDAY. My first day ever in retail back when I was a junior in high school was Black Friday, so of course I had gotten used to the dreaded day. However, not having to work retail today was the best feeling ever.

I was able to experience a lot for the first time not working Black Friday. There was no waking up at 3 AM to make it to work at 4 AM. I didn’t have to fold any clothes or ring up people at the cash register for my entire shift. I didn’t have to deal with crazed customers trying to get clothes that are already cheap to begin with. Did I mention I worked at Forever 21? How clothes can get any cheaper there I really have no idea. On top of that the girls I know working there now had to do a double shift today.

Instead of dealing with crowds of crazy people going out at all hours of the night I slept in. Ate leftovers. Caught up with Scandal (Yes, I finished 3 seasons in 4 days it’s embarrassing) Watched a great game of the dawgs, which didn’t end up the way I wanted it, but nonetheless was still a great game. Now I am just writing this blog to explain how after 4 years of Black Fridays, I might miss the craziness a little bit… Who am I kidding? No Black Friday today was amazing! But to all those in retail I understand your pain and for that reason I stayed in today! Here’s a video to get you excited for the season!

One Word. One Show. Scandal.

The show, Scandal, has literally taken over my life. If you haven’t watched Scandal do not, I repeat, DO NOT start watching it until you have enough days in your life to just keep watching. Once one episode ends you cannot stop, you must continue. This is true considering I have finished one season and am on episode 9 on the second season and this has happened in a span of 2-3 days.

Scandal has now become my guilty pleasure. The show is about Olivia Pope who runs a crisis management firm, but on the side she is having an affair with the President of the United States. I didn’t think I would become this addicted to the show, but each episode has twist and turns that sometimes I have to rewind and reprocess what just happened. Texting or snapchatting during episodes can make you miss very important details or facts, so basically at this point I have closed myself off from the world.

The past two days of my life has gone as follows. Sleep. Work. Eat. Watch Scandal. Repeat. So please for your own sake make sure you have a solid 3-4 days set aside to watch Scandal. No distractions. I’m writing you this blog just to take a breather from Scandal, but the hiatus is over, back to watching Scandal I go.

Top Five Friday

Every once in a while I usually share with you guys my top 5 favorite songs. In all honesty I could probably write a top five every week, because I always find some new song from friends or that I hear on the radio! Here are my top 5 before people start busting out the Christmas songs.

#1. Stay the Night – Zedd ft Hayley Williams
I love the lyrics to this song, plus Hayley Williams sounds so good! If you didn’t know Hayley Williams is the lead singer of the band Paramore. While this song is pretty repetitive it has a really good beat that you can’t avoid but enjoying.

#2. Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2 – Drake ft Jay-Z
As usual I’m still listening to music off Drake’s new CD. The beginning of the song is this really chill beat, and then half way through the song it changes. You almost start to think it’s a new song, but don’t let that fool you. I think even if you aren’t a Drake fan this is still a song anyone can like. It also uses hints of Wu Tang Clan’s C.R.E.A.M, which is one of my favorite songs from Wu Tang.

#3. Your New Beloved – Lovelife
My best friend, Trai, sent me this list off Buzzfeed of 30 songs you should listen to this fall, and literally I can’t stop listening to this song on the list. The effects used on the singers voice add to the really cool almost tribal beat in the background. If you like Bastille then you will probably like Lovelife. Honestly you will like Lovelife no matter what!

#4. Afterglow – Wilkinson
This another song that came off of the Buzzfeed list. The music video to this song is really cool along with the beat. The singer is from the UK and has a great voice that goes with it. Her accent is clearly heard, but is what makes her voice so good!

#5. Elastic Heart -Sia ft The Weeknd, and DiploThis song is for the new Hunger Games movie. While I’ve never seen any of the movies I love this song! My favorite part is that if you didn’t know The Weeknd was in the song you get this amazing surprise from him coming in after the first time the chorus played.

Post It Notes Save My Life

As you have probably noticed in past posts or at my lack of even writing post my life is hectic. It is my own fault that I make it as crazy as it is, but I like the constant craziness. However, without Post It notes I don’t know if I would make anything on time or would turn in any assignments on time.

My planner is something I live by. If you ever see me in class my planner is always out and open. At this point I think it is just a comfort thing to have it. With my planner I not only use the dates provided to write down everything I have to do or turn in, but I also have Post It notes everywhere. To a lot of people my Post It notes seem color coordinated or that there is some meaning behind the colors, but that is not the case.

I use Post It notes for everything, especially just to get me through the week. While my planner does help me keep track of things I always have a Post It note on the end of my week to show what I have for the week. This is for social or academics so that I can keep track. For example this is what I have on my Post It note for next week.

Firebelly blog (M)                                ISL blog (T)
Morton Finney mtg (S)                       CMFK bus (Th)
AV sign in (W)                                      SP oral online (F)
IMC tweets (T)                                    ISL Pitch Kit (T)
Wang assignment (W)                        SP oral in class (W)

This is it so far. Thankfully most of these are class related. Obviously I can keep track of my fun stuff because that’s usually what I look forward to! Wish me luck.

“The Email Signature”

Sometimes at Butler it seems like there is a competition in email signatures. On all our emails at the bottom of each one sent is a signature. Typically it says your name and some of things you are involved with. At Butler since everyone is literally involved in everything signatures can get kind of out of control.

I have no room to talk. Here is my signature at the end of my emails.

Butler University Class of 2015
College of Communication – Strategic Communication
Recruitment Counselor – Butler Panhellenic Association

Director of Recruitment – College Mentors for Kids

Content Developer – Firebelly Marketing
Student Ambassador – Butler University
Admissions Blogger – Butler University
Street Team – Dawg Pound

I know it’s ridiculous. However, how I go about my signature is very well thought out, in my opinion. For one on my signature I only put organizations that I actually hold a position in. The email signature at Butler is a known thing, and literally everyone has one. Here’s the thing, it’s not a competition, at least it shouldn’t be.

Block Party! Where all our organizations come out and you can get to know more about them. This is where a lot of freshmen get their start in organizations.

My advice on the email signature is do the things you enjoy. Most students do get involved with a lot on campus. It is a great way to meet new people, and get involved with your community. However, don’t let the only reason you join something is so you can extend your email signature. At this point, anything else I join I have to drop something off my list, which is why my list has not changed at all because all of things I am involved with are organizations and jobs I love.

I have been involved with College Mentors for Kids since freshmen year and have worked up the executive ladder with that. Dawg Pound, student fan section, is my fun organization that I love. It’s something I have also been involved with since freshmen year. If you know me then you know that I love Butler sports and cheering on the Bulldogs. The Recruitment Counselor slot will be filled back in next semester with what sorority I am in. Until then I have to keep secret about what house I am in to provide the freshmen girls going through recruitment with an unbiased opinion! Last but not least my jobs will never be changing, obviously as long as I don’t get fired! I love all of my jobs and love being able to share my experiences with each and  every one of you!

So long story short, don’t let the email signature haunt you. Do what you love and love what you do.

The 5 Songs I Can’t Stop Listening To

Many of the bloggers do Music Monday, but considering my Monday’s are usually hectic I can’t always blog on those days about music. Instead I thought I would share with you what I can’t stop listening to right now! Some are old songs and some are new, but either way I’m pretty sure my roommates hate me for constantly playing the same songs. Check out below to see if any of these are your favorites right now too!

#1. Dark Horse – Katy Perry
I typically do not like Katy Perry. I find her songs to be annoying at times, and so I really don’t bother listening to them. I heard Dark Horse on the radio the other day and got hooked. I loved the beat on the song, and the fact that Juicy J is on the song, count me in. If Katy Perry keeps making more tracks like this then I’m totally in for more Katy Perry.

#2. Her Favorite Song – Mayer Hawthorne (Oliver Remix)
The original of this song is really good, but I like the remix just a little better. I’m not a huge fan of Mayer Hawthorne either. I like a few of his songs here and there, but this song is by far my favorite song of his. I swear I’m not trying to be funny with the song title.

#3. Super Soaker – Kings of Leon
I love Kings of Leon. Short story, one time they came to Indianapolis during my junior year of high school on Homecoming night, and instead of Kings of Leon I picked homecoming… I’m not smart. Anyway, this is their new single off their new album, and I love it! If you haven’t heard it you definitely need to take a listen. The raspy voice of the lead singer gets me every time.

#4. Runaway – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Another group I really like is the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This song is about 4 years old, and I might have posted it on a couple blogs before before I really like this song when it’s rainy outside. Plus for me it’s a really good song to study to. I can’t have all this upbeat shenanigans going on or I get super distracted.

#5. Youth – Foxes (Adventure Club Remix)
I love the remix of this song. The original is good, but not my favorite. When Adventure Club came out with this remix I was so stoked. I love listening to this song while running because when the beat drops it gets me so pumped… except then I start to run way to fast and start to run out of breathe, but that’s a different story.

Getting Older and Older…

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, I was just away getting older. Let me explain. This past weekend I turned 21. To my parents I think it was the day they thought would never come. For me it was the best day of my life. As any typical 21 year old would do I went to the bars with some of my closest friends. There are some really nice things when it comes to going out as someone who is 21 at Butler.

At Butler we have a really close area called Broad Ripple, which is where most of the bars are besides the downtown area. Butler provides a shuttle system that takes students back and forth to Broad Ripple. It’s free for students and it doesn’t just have to be used for after 21 plans, it can be used for just going to grab a bite to eat or hang out with friends in Broad Ripple!

Besides turning 21 it was also my sister’s baby shower. I was so excited to see my sister and watch her open all of her gifts for baby Sophia. It’s so crazy to see all the different aspects that my family is in right now. I’m turning 21 ready to take on the world, and my sister is about to have her first child. Opposite ends of the spectrum but still a lot of happy times right now in my life! I’m so thankful to have survived another year! Did I mention the Colts won for me? Happy 21 to me!
