This week is Butler homecoming, and while for many alumni this is a time for seeing all their old friends and experiencing all the memories of Butler all over again, for current students this more of a week of stress, lots of practice, crafting and campaigning.
For some reason professors like to give a lot of homework during homecoming week. Fortunately for me I have not had a lot of homework which is really nice. Although a lot of students have a lot of homework and midterms this week.
With practices and crafting we do a lot of events during homecoming week! The Greek houses and dorms all participate in something called Yell Like Hell. This is basically like a cheer leading competition with the different houses/dorms. This year Pi Phi is paired with Sigma Nu and the homecoming theme is board games! Our board game is Jumanji. For crafting we have to lawn decorations according to our theme and what board game we chose. Homecoming is completely based on a point system so for lawn decorations the more Butler inspired or the more Butler people ( Danko, LJ, Blue 2 and Blue 3) are involved with the game the more points you probably will receive. We also have to decorate a float for the parade on homecoming!
Last but not least there is a lot of campaigning that goes on during homecoming week! There are king and queen candidates for each group involved. Each pairing has a King and Queen. I obviously voted for our queen candidate Jenna, but my big bro is running for King for Sigma Chi, so I voted for him instead of our paired king candidate! On Saturday the announcement will be made for who won. Until then it’s fun to see all the chalking, posters, and anything else they can think of to promote.
Hopefully everyone can make it to Butler on Saturday it will be an awesome time. Homecoming is never a let down!
Here’s a video of some of the old and current traditions of Butler homecoming!
