About Me:

Hi I'm Katie, I am a sophomore at Butler! I am a Strategic Communications major with a focus in Public Relations. I love being involved in campus and hold positions in College Mentors for Kids and Dawg Pound. I am also a Butler Student Ambassador, Morton Finney Scholar, and a Recruitment Counselor. In my spare time, I am usually hanging out with friends, making up new phrases, or tweeting.

Back To Real Life

After recruitment craziness, and joining Pi Beta Phi, it’s back to real life. This week has not been that bad so far. I’m really looking forward to all my classes. Here’s a little breakdown to what I’m taking this semester!

Natural World: Plants & Society
Natural World is part of the core curriculum here at Butler. I figure I should get all of my core out of the way since I am still undecided. The basic word for my class would be botany. I’m really excited for this class just because of how much I will be learning about plants, and also the fact that we get to do a project with the Indianapolis school for blind and deaf students. That is for our ICR (Indianapolis Community Requirement). The ICR is something you need in order to graduate as well and is a service learning project you do in one of your classes!

Beginning Ballet
This is also a core class for me. Before you graduate you must have a physical well being class or PWB. My first class of ballet will be tomorrow and I’m really excited but also really nervous!

Intro to Arts Administration
I am taking this class because I think I may be interested in the major of Arts Administration. So far I have really enjoyed this class. Then again I have only had two days worth of this class, so it will be interesting to see what happens as the semester goes on.

Intro to News Writing
This is a class I am taking because it is something I must take to further advance into the Public Relations world at Butler. I have only had one class of this so far and it seemed really interesting so I can’t wait to see what I will learn and gain from this class.

FYS: Science and Sustainability
FYS is another core it stands for Freshmen Year Seminar. Usually your FYS does not change, but my last FYS was only a semester long so I had to get a new one. This class seems really interesting so far, and is about the environment, sustainability, and the going green movement.

Analytical Reasoning: Win, Lose or Draw
This is my math class, and is also another core. I’m really excited because I am terrible at math, but this class shows how math is used in board games! I am excited to just play games, but learn math at the same time!

I’m taking 17 credits this semester so everyone wish me luck considering last semester I only took 14. Also I know I spoke a lot about the core curriculum. Click here if you want to know more information about this!

Also for all of you that just received your applications congratulations and welcome to BU! Here’s a video to show the long process that goes about accepting all of you!
