Brad Stevens is coming.
Oh, don’t look so surprised. As of last night, I have become convinced that Coach Stevens is trying to give the Butler fan base a collective heart attack. Don’t believe me even after last night’s win? Consider this: every win the Bulldogs have achieved in the NCAA tournament since their 77-59 victory over UTEP last year in the first round has been won in dramatic fashion. Let’s review.
Saturday, March 20th, 2010 – Ronald Nored makes a clutch layup and the subsequent free throw when he is fouled going to the hoop with 25 seconds left. After a foul by Shelvin Mack put Murray State at the line to bring the game back to 52-53 Bulldogs, Matt Howard made the first of two free throws to achieve the final score of 52-54 Bulldogs. It took a defensive stop by Gordon Hayward and Nored to prevent Murray State from getting the final shot. Tell me this isn’t dramatic:
Thursday, March 25th, 2010 – Butler takes on 1 seed Syracuse. A close game puts the Bulldogs down by four with five minutes left. After a 11-0 run, the Bulldogs had to hold off the Orange as they attempted a comeback, with Nored stealing the ball on the last possession of the game to seal the victory.
Saturday, March 27th, 2010 – Butler faces 2 seed Kansas State in the Elite Eight. Butler leads the entire game until about three minutes left. The Bulldogs have to hold of K-State in the closing minutes, the dagger coming with Ronald Nored’s two steals inside 25 seconds left. These people sure aren’t excited:
Still don’t believe me? Come back later today for further proof.
