BU Admission Counselors are Coming to You

Every year, Butler University admission counselors travel around the U.S. to visit with prospective applicants and their families. Admission representatives visit high schools and attend college fairs where they meet with students and guidance counselors. During these sessions, they describe all that Butler University has to offer including academics, student involvement and campus life while sharing insight into the application process and financial aid.

Butler University travels to places such as Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and Michigan, to name a few. If you want to meet with a Butler representative, check out the fall travel schedule on www.butler.edu/admission/visits/road.

College GO! Week

This year, College GO! Week begins on September 26, 2011. During College GO! Week, every high school in Indiana was asked to prepare their students for college and careers through a variety of events and activities. Specifically, College GO! Week aims to accomplish the following:

•Every senior will complete a college application.

  • Many Indiana colleges and university’s waive their application fee during College GO! Week.
  • Of course, you can always apply for free online at www.butler.edu/boa.

• Every junior will register for Indiana’s e-Transcript and commit to a college visit.

  • Indiana was the first state to offer a free, electronic service that provides access to colleges nationwide.
  • During this week, juniors are encouraged to schedule a visit at a college of their interest. Go to our website at www.butler.edu/visit to schedule a visit.

Meet the Bloggers

They’re back…four of our bloggers from last year have returned along with two fresh new faces. Our bloggers hail from Missouri, Indiana, Ohio and Virginia. Several times a week, our six student bloggers will be sharing their experiences so that you can get a taste of what life at Butler University is really like. They each bring a unique perspective to help provide better insight into Butler University’s academic programs, student organization, residential life experiences and more!

In addition to these six student bloggers, Butler Blue 2 will be blogging about his adventures as the official mascot of Butler University. Born 3/27/2004, this 60 lb. English Bulldog is enjoying his 8th year as mascot of the Indy-based, 4,000 student, liberal arts institution. Assistant Director of Admission, Megan O’Rourke, will also be posting her thoughts and insights on the blog. Megan received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a specialization in Public Relations and Advertising in 2006. She loved attending school at Butler so much that she decided to accept an admission counselor position and has been here ever since. Finally, we will be bringing you weekly updates, information and tips on our Admission blog. The Admission blog will feature important dates, helpful financial aid information and so much more.

Our bloggers provide first-hand accounts of their time at Butler and share their experiences, challenges and academic adventures through their words, photos and videos. Take a look and see for yourself…

Your September College Application Timeline

You’ve made it, you’re a senior! Only 8 more months (or 9 for some) until you graduate. It’s an exciting time in your life. It’s also time to get started on the college application process. Before you let senioritis get the best of you, be prepared to put some effort into applying to college.

This month, it is important that you:

  • Start filling out those applications! It’s free to apply online at Butler and we also accept the Common Application.
  • Ask for letters of recommendations. Make sure your recommendations are from current teachers, coaches and supervisors. Provide each person with a resume and let them know the reason you want to attend the universities you are applying to.
  • Begin writing your personal statement. (Butler also accepts graded essays.)
  • Make a list of colleges you want to visit and visit them!
  • Register for the ACT, SAT or SAT subject tests if necessary. Remember, Butler uses superscores so only retake those test areas in which you need the most improvement.
  • Don’t let senioritis get you down! Most colleges and universities require your mid-year and final grades.
