Two “winter storms” have rolled through, pouring ice over our fair city.
Then temperatures above freezing have just obliterated all sense of urgency about the whole thing and it’s really just not been all that intense.
I STILL SEE GRASS.
Just to prove that we leave the house for things other than class/work, we went across the street to Target.
And found these awful decorations.
First of all, that’s a giant “vintage” butterfly plastered onto a lampshade. And apparently anything remotely “vintage” looking can be embroidered onto anything and it can get sold in Targets nationwide. Sigh.
At least Curtis found these amazing Sylvester Stallone-in-the-movie-Cobra(?)-sunglasses.
ALSO my “happy clusters and belated birthday” package of stuff I ordered came today so I’m contented. Now for a long and arduous weekend of staring at my laptop and hoping I can retain at least a shred of information about pharmacy law and oncology.
Winter Storm Q? As in, the Quartermaster from James Bond?
Just wondering, meteorologists.
The icing began here around 7pm and I had to drive home in it. Luckily nothing was getting too slick yet, but you can never be sure how people are going to react. I wanted to drive as slow as possible, because let’s be real, if my Camry bites it then I’m going to have a hard time commuting to campus.
Fortunately everyone was super cool driving and everyone went slow and carefully. You never know around these parts! Maybe it’s because I’m from Ohio though.
According to what I’ve heard, we may get 1-1.5” of ICE and then another couple of inches of snow. I don’t have class tomorrow but Butler is kicking around the idea of a delay. So I’m crossing my fingers for all you people who have class! Me, I’m not leaving my house because I have no less than 5 assignments and a ton of catching up on lectures to do.
Did I mention I’m writing a group paper on fidaxomicin? It’s riveting, let me tell you.
I’ve been habitually checking the Weather Channel 10-day forecast looking for snow. It’s supposed to happen today what with Winter Storm Draco and all.
The weather alarm even buzzed about high winds and Christmas decorations flying about, but no mention of snow. Yet. The current temperature is 52 degrees. This does not look promising.
Holiday spirit abounds in our household.
We’ve watched It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, Elf, and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. There is no breaking our Christmas Spirit.
Still dreaming of a white Christmas though. Snow’s in the forecast for tomorrow even though temperatures are going to be above freezing for the next few days. I guess I shouldn’t have asked for snow boots this year, huh?
Remember barely more than a week ago when it was cold and rainy?
We could wear boots and sweaters and be merry.
Butler, you all looked fabulous. I saw a girl rocking a skirt with knee-high wool socks and, I kid you not, patent leather oxfords. I saw a boy wearing rusty red pants, ankles rolled, with those boat-shoes-turned-to-boots. And this other girl had skinny khakis with black riding boots. SO EQUESTRIAN.
Fabulous. So fabulous.
And then I got myself a big, ol’ patterned wool sweater that I’m really proud of. I wore it when it was rainy last week and I showed up to class and saw that a guy was wearing a blue version of basically the same sweater (guy version without the boatneck) in blue. It was hilarious to me. SWEATER TWINS!
But now it’s 80 degrees outside (and inside!) and I feel like I should have worn shorts today. My caramel macchiato had to be ordered iced, it was imperative.
So this is MY fall outfit, which I had to specifically put on because there was no way I was wearing it in 80 degree weather today. Wool sweater? pfffft.
I wanted to title this post “Fall Break” and realized everyone probably has a blog called “fall break” so I titled it “fall breakin” and… I don’t know why. I turned fall break into a verb and you can’t stop me.
The leaves are not turning as quickly as I like. Here is evidence.
I’d say we’re at 30% capacity right now. WEAK, TREES.
Hopefully in a week or two we’ll see some real autumn colors. Pah. It barely even feels like fall break, nature. Do I have to do everything myself?
Actually, I was disappointed because it was rather warm yesterday and I went to campus Starbucks to get a salted caramel mocha (I prefer these to pumpkin spice lattes this year, sorry pumpkins!), and I actually was craving a green tea lemonade instead. I am an autumn traitor.
BUT. I want to point out that pumpkin spice latte ice cream is a thing. And I am excited. All I know is, this fall break (which I’m spending half at home in Cincinnati and half at my regular home in Indy), I will be doing a whole lot of NOTHING. And maybe some Panopto. :/ Meanwhile, trees, I expect results.
I must talk about this every year.
Fall is my faaavorite time of year. I know it’s only been September for 14 days, but the minute school starts I’m ready for it to be 60 degrees (or colder! I can do colder!) so I can wear boots and sweaters and scarves and always have a hot beverage in my hand.
(I was about to say “I wish I could share tumblr photosets!” and then I was like … wait, YES I CAN. But I decided not to share the whole thing for credit reasons!)
The leaves aren’t turning quite yet but once they do I will take my real camera to school (not my potato camera phone–which if you don’t know what that is, that’s when you have a really blurry camera that is worthless and might as well be a potato and not a camera).
Today, it’s rainy and it’s only going to be a high of 70. So I am wearing a sweatshirt and boots because 2/3 of my classes are canceled and I don’t care. Ha! Happy Friday, my friends.
If I got a nickel for every time I was up late on a Thursday night doing a blog entry… I would have SO MANY NICKELS.
At least it’s Friday now. It’s past midnight. I made it home, finally. It looked like it was going to storm when I was driving home but I guess it was all for show. It rained a little bit and maybe some areas of Indy got more than we did in Fishers, but who knows! Weather does whatever it wants around here, I don’t try to understand it.
I had a nutritious meal and I’m trying to get some last minute studying in before I finally finally get some sleep. I caught a cold and I guess if I was going to get one, I might as well have gotten it right at the end of the week so it can hit me over the weekend. Sigh. College kid problems, for real.
I hope everyone has fun at BUTLERPALOOZA this weekend!! I will not be attending because I… gosh I don’t even have a good reason other than I will probably making like a bulldog and doing this:
and studying beta-lactams. :[ So glam.
We planned on keeping our air conditioner turned off during the spring. You know, spring time, when it’s around 60-70 degrees and flowers bloom and bees buzz and ducks quack and sun shines and rain … rains.
But this is straight up summer, Weather, and we’ve had several talks about how much I hate it when you mess up my seasons.
It is currently 81 degrees and the air is stagnant here in Indianapolis. The sun went away, finally, but let me tell you: it is hot! It could be worse–at least it isn’t humid (although, give it about three weeks and we’ll be swimming across campus).
What I will say is that I enjoyed walking across campus and seeing everybody in their springtime best. To everyone who wears brightly colored pants: I salute you. They look snazzy as all get out.
What I’m wondering is, when will it be okay for men to wear colored pants? I see them on sale everywhere, but I can’t seem to get past the idea that they only belong in a Vampire Weekend music video.
Target’s got the right idea.
For the record, if men in brightly colored suits poofed me into 5 inch wedges, I would probably fall over and die.
This week has just dragged. We didn’t do much for Valentine’s Day because I had class/work all day and I was too exhausted. I also had a test in my STS class so I was too preoccupied with studying to want to go out.
Also my whole diet prevents me from eating chocolate. And those Dunkin’ Donuts heart-shaped donuts, though I longed for one.
I think the weather didn’t help this week either. Let’s review, midwest mild winter:
Monday: 2 inches of snow in the morning
Monday evening: snow melted
Wednesday: So unremarkable I don’t even remember
Thursday: Torrential downpours in the morning followed by peeks of sunshine followed by overcast and 45 degrees
Just PICK SOMETHING. If you want it to be winter, I am okay with that. I have boots. If it’s going to rain, that’s fine, I have boots. If it’s going to be above forty degrees indefinitely then I NEED A NEW MEDIUM-WEIGHT COAT.
Okay, weather, I expect a declaration of intentions on my desk by tomorrow morning. Just push the old paperwork and empty cans of diet sierra mist aside.
Oh hey I found my camera and there were pictures on it! Imagine that.
Myspace angles. Also don’t be alarmed, those are feathers in my hair. No biggie.
