Hey everyone, I am Cathryn. I am going into my 5th year of pharmacy at Butler University. I am also working toward a minor in Science, Technology & Society! In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with friends and writing. I've been working on NaNoWriMo and am hoping to be published at some point in the near future as well. Most of the time you can catch me studying in the library or browsing the Internet. Oh, and did I mention that I got married last summer?

Studython Playlist

I don’t know why, but to get my finals study on, I have to (first of all) stay awake.

And reminisce?

So my study playlist looks like it’s straight out of 2001 or a bad pop station from now. A little bit of both. And it’s all thanks to Spotify which enables me to add a bunch of songs that I should not be allowed to put together into one playlist.

I’m actually reusing my study list from last year, which consists of N*SYNC, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears–your imagination can fill in the rest. It also has a mix of Arcade Fire (?) and The Killers. I do not claim to have any taste in music.

It keeps me awake and pumped. Whatever it takes, right? I mean, it’s  better than drinking so much coffee that I fall out of my chair.

CPR, Starbucks, and exams, oh my!

I’ve had a pretty eventful week.

On Monday I saved a mannequin’s life in CPR certification training. I used an AED and everything!

Then I was rewarded by finding out:

FIVE FREE STARBUCKS DRINKS DURING CLUSTERS? WHY YES THANK YOU.

I have no comment about my costuming skills.

Clusters are under way which menas that cup up there was a venti and I just drank a strawberry shake from the “McCafé.” If I made a chart having to do with my nutritional choices during clusters, it would be in the shape of a Wendy’s Baconator.

ONE LAST THING: I tried the new hazelnut macchiato and it’s kind of meh. You can now go about your business with this knowledge!

What do I do the week before school starts?

I go home to Cincinnati. (Am I doing it wrong?)

The whole plan was to make some Cincinnati appointments and get those done since it’s winter break and it’s a good time for such things. Did I make the calls to do that like a functioning adult? No. But I did start a new game of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on my Gamecube.

I hate to think that’s old school but I guess the Gamecube is now two Nintendo console generations behind. Oh, right, about being home!

COULD MY PHONE TAKE A WORSE PICTURE? Wait, don’t tempt it. I guess I could have been covering the camera with my finger or something. Ugh.

Right, so! I’m at my favorite coffee chain: Caribou Coffee! What’s so special about yet another coffee chain? Well Caribou is cabin/outdoor themed so their ottomans are little bears. And their napkins always have hand-drawn designs on them. AND I think they have better coffee than some other people.

The only Caribou in Indianapolis right now is on IUPUI’s campus, so if you’re down there, check them out.

I know that winter break is drawing to a close and this is my last break for an entire year. And my last semester of classes ever. I guess that’s why I’ve been such a lump–or at least not inclined to schedule myself up with tons of stuff to do. I’m really glad that I got to spend some time writing and with that guy that I live with who I didn’t see at all last semester. (Joke: I’m referring to my husband Curtis, who I hardly saw because of our ridiculous class/work schedules!)

So here’s to the end of break. (Insert groan from all of my friends whose breaks ended long ago and I’m sorry. :( )

Givin’ Thaaanks

Sorry it’s been Radio Silence on the Cathryn Channel. I wish I could say I was doing terribly interesting things. Well, hold on. It’s the Internet and none of you can find me.

So I’ve spent the past two weeks on a soul journey, riding a Harley across the colorful American landscape of broken dreams and I met an ex-con named Spike in Tuscan who hand knits baby afghans.

Just kidding, I’ve been making medchem flashcard sets and drinking coffee. And hosting Thanksgiving!

Christmas lights/kitchen lights do not make good photograph lights. :P

My novel has come to a grinding halt, although I’ve got a good direction for finishing it and I’m hoping to get it done by the end of the year! Although I just did the calculations, and instead of the NaNoWriMo 1,667 words/day, I still need to write 1,100 words/day to get it done by the end of the year. …. Dang it. Well, I’ll figure something out.

I need an IV coffee drip STAT

Have you people heard of the magical coffee cart that sells coffee and muffins for $1 each?! It’s called Brewed Awakenings and they stalk the halls to provide shlucks like myself who constantly need a caffeine and sugar fix. I wholeheartedly approve because it means I get coffee without even having to lift a finger! I can get it from our hangout table outside of the Science Library.

Gosh, what a week. I thought I could catch a break after clusters but it’s just been a whirlwind of business ever since. We have oral presentations in case this week and a quiz this Friday. Not to mention that wee little event called the presidential elections.

I’m not letting myself get all psyched up for the elections until I figure out what to do with this case though. This guy with hospital acquired pneumonia is about two seconds away from getting a bandaid and a lollypop though, I’m not even kidding.

It’s totally a Monday.

AUTUMN TIMES.

I must talk about this every year.

Fall is my faaavorite time of year. I know it’s only been September for 14 days, but the minute school starts I’m ready for it to be 60 degrees (or colder! I can do colder!) so I can wear boots and sweaters and scarves and always have a hot beverage in my hand.

(I was about to say “I wish I could share tumblr photosets!” and then I was like … wait, YES I CAN. But I decided not to share the whole thing for credit reasons!)

The leaves aren’t turning quite yet but once they do I will take my real camera to school (not my potato camera phone–which if you don’t know what that is, that’s when you have a really blurry camera that is worthless and might as well be a potato and not a camera).

Today, it’s rainy and it’s only going to be a high of 70. So I am wearing a sweatshirt and boots because 2/3 of my classes are canceled and I don’t care. Ha! Happy Friday, my friends.

The trials of scheduling REVEALED.

Are you looking at going to pharmacy school?

GREAT! Here’s what you’re in for!

8 AM compounding lab. On a Friday. Followed by a 50-minute lecture. Then, lunch break. Then, 50-minute lecture. Then, 3-hour case conference.

Apparently, I have a death wish.

But you know what? I’m going to power through this. Even though I don’t function on less than 8 hours of sleep, which is going to prove interesting because I’m 90% certain I will be getting less than 8 hours tonight. It’s 11:33 PM and I still have some studying to do and lab things to look over.

Let’s just say that Starbucks is going to be my savior tomorrow, even if it costs me $6 for the caffeine I need. And it will. It’s Starbucks.

In other news of how I fail at life, my room is still littered with the spoils of semester move-in. At least all of my sweatpants are on top of the mess. All I care about right now are sweat pants. :)

So since it’s only day 3 of spring semester and I already feel overwhelmed, here’s that lovely finals shot of Kass and Ashley partaking in pickles in front of the open refrigerator.
