About Me:

Hey everyone, I am Cathryn. I am going into my 5th year of pharmacy at Butler University. I am also working toward a minor in Science, Technology & Society! In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with friends and writing. I've been working on NaNoWriMo and am hoping to be published at some point in the near future as well. Most of the time you can catch me studying in the library or browsing the Internet. Oh, and did I mention that I got married last summer?

Various insults to your face, Monday!

My alarm is a clock radio and while I don’t move it or touch it other than to set the time that it goes off, sometimes it just decides that radio waves are far more volatile than they really are. Or that the towers from which they are broadcast must be completely mobile and that the signals can just one day up and disappear. And I’m talking about the local FM stations like X103 (YES I LOVE THAT STATION, ESPECIALLY TODD AND THE DEUCE!).

Anyway, it’s bad enough getting woken up from REM sleep by loud noises, but even worse when the sound that comes out of the clock radio is straight up white noise.

But I am awake and it is 8 AM! And it is Monday. We had clusters last week which is why I’ve been completely off the map. It was my birthday last Tuesday, too.

“omgosh, cathryn, what did you do?!”

WELL.

I appeared for our morning study session before the therapeutics exam and my wonderful buddies had gotten me a cookie cake. I can’t tell you how they knew how much I love cookie cake. BUT THEY KNEW. It was amazing! So we feasted on cookie cake before the exam!

Then we left for the exam (which I had to take an hour early with about 1/3 of the class because we had electives at 2), and then I had my Public Health class. I was sick and I was having one of those THE VIRUS IS TAKING OVER MY BRAIN days. Like I thought I was turning into a Walking Dead zombie.

Even though I was tired and I probably gave the virus to Curtis over the weekend, we went out for Mexican food and then it was back to studying. It was a good day though! :)

This is how we do birthdays.

Even though clusters were scheduled three days after my birthday, we still managed to have a kick-a time.

Birthday Pancake Bacon Sandwich.

It all started with breakfast. While my roommates cooked, I sang and danced to Ke$ha. It was the appropriate Birthday move. After properly fueling my brain, I was secluded in Kassandra’s room to study for 4 hours.

Birthday! Yeeeaaah! ...aw.

Okay, but, at 6 PM sharp–the fun began.

See, there was a mystery to solve, and when you’re the birthday girl, it’s your job to solve mysteries. Get out the way, Mystery Machine. This one’s from Sherlock Holmes HIMSELF.

He has stationary with his FACE on it. He's a big deal.

APPARENTLY. Holmes got a tip on a big incident that happened at the British museum. An Ancient Chinese Ruby SOMETHING (the letter with the evidence was torn so we don’t know what) was stolen! And you know the easiest place to find Chinese things is PF Chang’s.

All I got was this dang fortune cookie!!

Since one of our suspects was from Texas (I don’t make the rules, I just read the ripped-up evidence report that Holmes sends), we decided to go see True Grit for recon.

Can I take him into custody?!

So we’re still not sure “who done it,” but it turns out the perps left the stolen goods in our care.

It belongs in a museum!

THAT WAS MY BIRTHDAY! Well, a summary. Trust me, there will be more pictures drizzled into future posts, like hot fudge on a sundae.

You’re welcome.

A Weekend of Piracy

My roommate, Ashley, celebrated her birthday last weekend. In typical “us” fashion, we devised an evil plan to make her birthday celebration long and drawn-out, with goofy voices and costumes. It’s a tradition of ours.

I now present you with Ashley’s Pirate Birthday.

To really catch the essence of pirates and make someone feel special for their birthday, send them a Black Spot. We used it to tell Ashley to show up at the Bell Tower alone where an evil pirate may or may not challenge her to a duel.

Next, there better be a treasure map involved in the pirate shenanigans, otherwise you’re just kidding yourself if you think you’re doing a pirate theme. The map piece is hard to find, but it’s down in the right corner there. We sent Ashley all over campus to find the map pieces!

Every treasure hunt should end in a group shot.

As a reward for finding the map pieces, we took Ashley to Buca di Beppo downtown. We documented the treasure map there!

I drew it. ME.

On the back was the treasure map!!

TREASURE!

All in all, it was good day. We think Ashley had fun–after she found out the Black Spot wasn’t a death sentence. :)

YARRR!! Pirate game faces.
