About Me:

Hey everyone, I am Cathryn. I am going into my 5th year of pharmacy at Butler University. I am also working toward a minor in Science, Technology & Society! In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with friends and writing. I've been working on NaNoWriMo and am hoping to be published at some point in the near future as well. Most of the time you can catch me studying in the library or browsing the Internet. Oh, and did I mention that I got married last summer?

CPR, Starbucks, and exams, oh my!

I’ve had a pretty eventful week.

On Monday I saved a mannequin’s life in CPR certification training. I used an AED and everything!

Then I was rewarded by finding out:

FIVE FREE STARBUCKS DRINKS DURING CLUSTERS? WHY YES THANK YOU.

I have no comment about my costuming skills.

Clusters are under way which menas that cup up there was a venti and I just drank a strawberry shake from the “McCafé.” If I made a chart having to do with my nutritional choices during clusters, it would be in the shape of a Wendy’s Baconator.

ONE LAST THING: I tried the new hazelnut macchiato and it’s kind of meh. You can now go about your business with this knowledge!

Worst Blizzard Ever

Two “winter storms” have rolled through, pouring ice over our fair city.

Then temperatures above freezing have just obliterated all sense of urgency about the whole thing and it’s really just not been all that intense.

I STILL SEE GRASS.

Just to prove that we leave the house for things other than class/work, we went across the street to Target.

And found these awful decorations.

First of all, that’s a giant “vintage” butterfly plastered onto a lampshade. And apparently anything remotely “vintage” looking can be embroidered onto anything and it can get sold in Targets nationwide. Sigh.

At least Curtis found these amazing Sylvester Stallone-in-the-movie-Cobra(?)-sunglasses.

ALSO my “happy clusters and belated birthday” package of stuff I ordered came today so I’m contented. Now for a long and arduous weekend of staring at my laptop and hoping I can retain at least a shred of information about pharmacy law and oncology.

Magilla Glub Glub (aka KITTEN)

Whaaat? I know right.

I was just checking on one of my favorite sites ever, CuteOverload, and I just realized they made a post from a recurring “character,” Magilla Glub Glub! Sometimes they feature pets over and over again if they’re especially cute/special and Magilla Glub Glub is just that. He’s a rescue kitten from Rwanda!

Oh, you want pictures.

HERE.

YOU.

GO.

I just love goofy pet names.

Anyway I spent a good amount of time on C.O. today because I needed a lot of cute animals in my life. It’s a really good stress reliever. I highly recommend the baby elephant playing in a mud bath too (it’s a few posts down), it was just PRECIOUS.

Go forth, my friends. Become CuteOverloaders like me.

It’s a bad time, man.

One: I quote The Other Guys on the daily. (Mark Wahlberg, o.m.g.)

Two: I’ve decided the week before clusters is officially the worst time ever. So many assignments and things due. And just no time to study! Someone on Tumblr perfectly encapsulated this week in a set of Star Trek gifs from an episode that Curtis called “the weirdest ever.”

“6-8 page group paper due on the most boring topic possible – formulary medications!”

“Top 100 drug test and pharmacy law midterm are at 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM the Friday of clusters!”

“Oh and your elective classes still meet during clusters and have outrageous reading assignments. HAVE FUN.”

My weekend has started so I’m getting a head start … ish. I have to get my Basic Life Support certification on Monday which means doing the online course and whatnot. I reached that point where basic life support is super blasé. Should I be worried?

The latest updates … from Fishers.

Update: I think the snow has started?

Update: I have had all the paraphernalia out to paint my nails for going on 5 days and I have made no gains at actually doing it.

Update: :(

We’re getting closer and closer to mid-semester and it cannot go by fast enough. We’ll be getting our rotations schedules in a matter of weeks. I’m excited but also ready to move on from these classes! I’m behind on lectures (I’m discovering oncology is so not my thing), and I need to get all of my notes together for pharmacy law because that midterm is coming up too.

I always have a rough spring semester! ALWAYS!

AT LEAST SOMEONE IS HAVING FUN.

Icepocalypse 2: The Reckoning

ICE STORM.

Winter Storm Q? As in, the Quartermaster from James Bond?

Just wondering, meteorologists.

The icing began here around 7pm and I had to drive home in it. Luckily nothing was getting too slick yet, but you can never be sure how people are going to react. I wanted to drive as slow as possible, because let’s be real, if my Camry bites it then I’m going to have a hard time commuting to campus.

Fortunately everyone was super cool driving and everyone went slow and carefully. You never know around these parts! Maybe it’s because I’m from Ohio though. :P

According to what I’ve heard, we may get 1-1.5” of ICE and then another couple of inches of snow. I don’t have class tomorrow but Butler is kicking around the idea of a delay. So I’m crossing my fingers for all you people who have class! Me, I’m not leaving my house because I have no less than 5 assignments and a ton of catching up on lectures to do.

Did I mention I’m writing a group paper on fidaxomicin? It’s riveting, let me tell you.

Eeeee! I did a blog! IN ONE TAKE, Y’ALL.

Au revoir, Facebook!

I’m taking the Drugs and Addictions elective, and I unknowingly almost gave up the Internet as my addiction for the rest of the semester.

Our objective yesterday was to come up with an addiction. The only thing I could really think of was that I’m on the computer all the time checking sites and doin’ stuff and I was like “always with the Internet, man.” So I wrote down Internet and turned in my notecard. Then we were informed we had to give up what we wrote down for the REST OF THE SEMESTER!

I really couldn’t think of any other addiction. I mean I really like Mexican food but I don’t eat it every day. I like sweets too, but we don’t keep enough around that it would make me want to give it up. Fast food too. But again, more of a bad habit than something I do every day or more than 2 times a week. So I had to come up with something to give up without … breaking the rest of the semester.

Au revoir, Facebook.

And I’m going to limit my time on other sites like Tumblr because I do spend a lot of time on it. But did you know there are like a million fan blogs for Ryan Gosling, Bruce Springsteen, and Christoph Waltz? This is hard you guys!

(Cathryn you’re super weird WHO IN THE WORLD IS CHRISTOPH WALTZ? he’s on SNL this week, HE IS A REAL CELEBRITY, GAWSH.)

Various insults to your face, Monday!

My alarm is a clock radio and while I don’t move it or touch it other than to set the time that it goes off, sometimes it just decides that radio waves are far more volatile than they really are. Or that the towers from which they are broadcast must be completely mobile and that the signals can just one day up and disappear. And I’m talking about the local FM stations like X103 (YES I LOVE THAT STATION, ESPECIALLY TODD AND THE DEUCE!).

Anyway, it’s bad enough getting woken up from REM sleep by loud noises, but even worse when the sound that comes out of the clock radio is straight up white noise.

But I am awake and it is 8 AM! And it is Monday. We had clusters last week which is why I’ve been completely off the map. It was my birthday last Tuesday, too.

“omgosh, cathryn, what did you do?!”

WELL.

I appeared for our morning study session before the therapeutics exam and my wonderful buddies had gotten me a cookie cake. I can’t tell you how they knew how much I love cookie cake. BUT THEY KNEW. It was amazing! So we feasted on cookie cake before the exam!

Then we left for the exam (which I had to take an hour early with about 1/3 of the class because we had electives at 2), and then I had my Public Health class. I was sick and I was having one of those THE VIRUS IS TAKING OVER MY BRAIN days. Like I thought I was turning into a Walking Dead zombie.

Even though I was tired and I probably gave the virus to Curtis over the weekend, we went out for Mexican food and then it was back to studying. It was a good day though! :)

A plague upon both your houses!

I swear I do everything to try and not get sick.

Tips: hand-washing, hand-sanitizing, regular sleeping and regular eating, avoiding sick friends like they have the plague (they really love that, let me tell you–not), and getting my flu shot.

I still managed to pick up something right before clusters week. And it was a weird one.

We all know how colds usually go–sore throat, stuffy/runny nose, feeling miserable for 3 days-week. This virus was something else. All of the sudden I got super tired and super congested, but my nose wasn’t runny. It was just like somebody stuffed my sinuses with a bunch of cotton balls and then sapped my energy like Superman in a Kryptonite factory.

AND THAT WAS IT. No sore throat, no runny nose. Just… stuffystuffysleepysleepy. For five days during clusters. Now I’m fine. So, so weird. I do appreciate not having to be a living fountain during exams, though, because it’s highly disturbing to know the person sitting near you is spewing virus particles into a tissue and probably into the air.

This is such an image-heavy post. And I’m not sorry. :D Also have you ever read about the Plague? It’s super interesting.

If you need me, I’ll be Trip-ing it on the couch.
