I once high-fived a professor who was holding his hand up in greeting. Not for a high five. But it looked like one, and any sensible 18 year-old would respond to a gesture like that with a high five. Natural.
The other day, I was driving and I stopped at the crosswalk between ResCo and Ross Hall. A blond boy was crossing holding a white vuvuzela. I rolled my window down after he crossed and yelled, “Play your vuvuzela!!” My roommates watched for his reaction, which was a mixture of surprise and hurt all at once. The poor kid thought I was making fun of him. Truth is, I love me a vuvuzela.
Two days ago, while studying, I was wearing my pineapple sleep shorts. These are my lucky study shorts. There was a knock on the door, likely from our friend across the hall, and I didn’t answer it because I lacked decent pants. He might read this. I apologize.
Last week, I got out of my last exam for this cluster period, Principles of Drug Action I. I could have sworn I saw Andre, a fellow blogger, coming toward me in Jordan Hall. I made eye contact, and I started to smile, and the guy just kept walking. Andre, was that you?!
My roommates and I often sit in our bay window in the Apartment Village and stare down at the Butler Bowl, where frequent merriment is had by students and community members alike. What we have seen cannot be unseen. Romances have blossomed, words have been exchanged, wedgies have been picked, and generally, we have been witnesses to many animated conversations that probably should have taken place inside. We should stick to watching men’s soccer.
Those are just a few of the cringe-worthy stories I have experienced in my almost four years here. I thought I would share, letting everyone know that I’m not as cool as you might think. (Joke.)
Here is the famous Butler Blue II, our live mascot, asleep last night. This is how I felt this Monday morning. Sigh.
Edit: Another awkward thing I do is use HTML tags when I type. I’m used to it. Our blogging system is above using HTML tags and will leave them instead of making words italicized like I want! So if you see “” tags, I’m just being a fool.
