The college search is a long and stressful process, but when you find the right college it just fits! Stepping foot on Butler’s campus, even in the midst of the madness of the Final Four being in Indianapolis, I still felt right at home on my tour. All of the students, not just my tour guide, were friendly and willing to offer any advice that they had. They seemed very balanced between being concerned about their academics, but also not wanting to miss out on opportunities outside of the classroom, such as extracurricular activities and participating in the Final Four activities. I knew that these were my kind of people!
That being said, I wish someone had told me a few things about touring schools and the college process looking back on it. Ask the tour guide and current students questions about their experiences and what they’re involved in. It will give you a better insight into the campus and what you could get involved in. Don’t be discouraged by the little things, like community bathrooms, because you will make the experience what it should be. Finally, dream big from the beginning! Find a school that you feel at home at that will challenge you to be the best that you can be and never hesitate from taking advantage of it. That is what Butler has done for me, and I wish I would have learned that earlier.
I’ve found that college truly is the most amazing time of your life (and I’m only two years in!). Push through that college search and find your home. Keep your energy up through it, investigate, and dream big. It will all pay off in the end!
