Happy Friday to all! Today is the last day of classes before spring break. HUZZAH! Besides it being a jovial occasion due to the beginning of break, the weather is prime time right now.
A hipster llama, just cuz.
It is so sunny and beautiful and everyone is so happy to be alive. I feel like anytime people are leaving for a break of any sort, there is a certain energy on campus that indicates a break is coming. The parking lots start clearing out, the residence halls have a soft quiet that falls over them, and people just radiate a bit of excitement. Another fun aspect of today: a bunch of people dressed in tuxes and fancy dresses with plastic name tags are walking around campus in herds. There is something incredibly funny about a group of sharply dressed people wandering around in a confused daze with a laminated neon plastic tag stuck on their front. I’m not sure who they are or why they’re here, but I feel really good about it.
Back to break: I am just going home for break, but I am so excited. I can’t wait to sit on the couch and watch hours of television and movies and not feel bad about it. I’m also excited to see my friends and family who will be home at the same time. I’m not even trying to get any work done while I’m home, and I’m looking forward to just straight up chillin.
Have a glorious break, and thanks for reading
Happy Thursday everyone! Spring break is on the horizon, and you’re probably looking for ways to keep your finances in check while on vacation. Lucky for you, I have just the thing.
Look at them so stylishly transferring money.
My friend Trey’s PR group is promoting a money transfer service called Popmoney, and I think it’s pretty relevant in regards to managing money if you’re traveling over break. You can send and receive money through your checking account, (which most likely is already partnered with Popmoney because a lot of banks are), and you can transfer the money through their website or any type of mobile device. If your bank isn’t a partner, however, don’t fret! You can still use Popmoney. They will just send you an email granting you access for the transfer. For more info on that, click here. And for more info on Popmoney in general, check out their website.
Spring break should be a time of fun and spontaneity, so don’t leave your finances to be spent willy nilly while you let loose the rest of the week.
Have a great rest of the week and thanks for reading
Happy Music Monday! I hope everyone is having a smashing spring break! This music Monday is devoted to Macklemore.
Macklemore (his real name is Ben Haggerty) and his producer Ryan Lewis make hip-hop/indie rap music, and have been doing so since 2008. Haggerty started out his career in 2000 as Professor Macklemore and released an extended play, then dropped the “professor” and began making music as just Macklemore. He struggled with substance abuse for a few years, but after becoming sober in 2008, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis teamed up for the first time.
Since beginning his music career, Macklemore has released one mixtape, three extended plays, and two albums, all on independent record labels. Although he has such a large body of work, he didn’t really become super famous until his song “Thrift Shop” got popular in late 2012. The song has over 150 million views on YouTube and just so happens to be one of my favorite songs at the moment. My favorite song by him is probably “Same Love.” This song is about marriage equality, making Macklemore the first hip-hop artist to sing of such a thing, which I think is incredibly cool. I don’t usually like rap or hip-hop music at all, but I love that Macklemore’s songs actually are about legitimate things and have humor in them.
He will be playing at Purdue University on March 23 and at Indiana University on April 17. Click on the date for ticket info for each!
Two of my favorite songs by Macklemore, “Fake I.D.“and “Thrift Shop”, have a few choice words in them, so I can’t really put them on here. Click the name of the song to view those! “Same Love” is down below!
Have a great week and thanks for reading
Happy Music Monday! This is the week before spring break, so everyone is probably going a little stir crazy and is lacking motivation. Although break is so near, do not give up on your schoolwork yet, my friends! Power through these next few days and get your tests and papers done! To help motivate you to have a good week, I have a happy song to share.
This song is “Good Day” by Nappy Roots. Nappy Roots is an American alternative rap group consisting of four people. The group started in Kentucky, and was the best selling hip hop group of 2002. The group has five albums: Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz, Wooden Leather, The Humdinger, The Pursuit of Nappyness, and Nappy Dot Org. Although all of these titles are clear winners, The Pursuit of Nappyness is my personal fave.
My friend Natalie sent this song to my friends as part of our Music Monday tradition we did in high school, so this is the only Nappy Roots song I have ever heard. Since I have only ever heard this one song, I cannot attest for the rest of their work, but this song is really happy and makes me feel good about life. Plus it sounds like a goofy, old school hip-hop song, and nothing is better than that. Have a wonderful week, good luck on schoolwork, and thanks for reading
