Music Monday: Freshly Brewed and Out of the Dawg House

Happy Monday everyone! Freshly Brewed and Out of the Dawg House, Butler’s female and male a Capella groups, had their spring concerts this weekend.  They were both absolutely wonderful and I cannot get over how talented they all are.

Friday night was Freshly Brewed’s concert. As I have mentioned before, my friend Allie is in Freshly Brewed, so I always get extra excited to see them sing. They sang a great variety of songs ranging from “Yesterday” by The Beatles, to “Lego House” by Ed Sheeran, to a sweet Kanye mash-up. The highlight of the evening, by far, was when Allie had a solo! She sang “The Call” by Regina Spektor. I already loved this song, and hearing Allie sing it gave me goosebumps.

Satruday was Out of the Dawg House’s concert, and they were stupdenous. They sang a variety of songs as well. My fave was probably “Crazy Love” by Van Morrison. A close second, though, was “Staying Alive” by The Bee Gees. They were super entertaining and made funny commentary inbetween songs, which made the concert even better.

I’ve mentioned before how I have no musical talent whatsoever, causing me to be super excited and inspired by those who do. Both a Capella groups were so great and I loved both of the concerts so much. I even bought a Freshly Brewed sweatshirt and Out of the Dawg House t-shirt. #Number1Fan. I wore my sweatshirt yesterday and got asked several times if I was in Freshly Brewed, prompting me to explain that I’m just a creepy wanna be. #ADayInTheLife

P.S. I linked both groups’ Facebook pages, so go and like them!!

Best of luck on finals and have a great week :)

Music Monday: Regina Spektor

Happy Music Monday! Because everyone needs more quirk in their life, let’s talk about Regina Spektor. Regina Spektor is an American singer-songwriter and pianist from Russia. Regina’s music is classified as indie folk/pop, but she was associated with the anti-folk movement in New York early in her career. Anti-folk mocks seriousness in most mainstream music and is meant to sound experimental. Regina’s association with this musical movement comes across in her incredibly quirky, and sometimes eerie, tunes.

She has released six albums over the last 11 years: 11:11, Songs, Soviet Kitsch, Begin to Hope, Far, and What We Saw from the Cheap Seats. #RealTalk, Regina Spektor’s music is really strange, but her originality and unique voice is what makes her so great. Her most popular song, “Fidelity,” became popular several years ago, and is her most recognizable song. Some of her songs are a little weird, but overall I really enjoy her music and creativity. Here are a few of my favorites by her. Have a great week, and thanks for reading :)
