Taylor Not So Swift

Happy Wednesday! Hopefully midterms are going well for everyone and everyone is enjoying the bit of snow we just got! Do you know what I’m not enjoying these days? Taylor Swift.

In this month’s issue of Vanity Fair, Taylor Swift insulted Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Fey and Poehler made a joke about Taylor staying away from Michael J. Fox’s son at the Golden Globes, and in Swift’s interview, she said the duo could go to hell. Excuse me Miss Swift, but who do you think you are? Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are two of the funniest women in Hollywood and it was their job to crack jokes and keep the audience entertained at the Golden Globes. Check yourself before your wreck yourself.

Tina Fey responded to Swift’s comment by saying she was surprised Swift was upset by it. Amy Poehler also responded by saying she felt bad Taylor got upset. She also said, “I do agree I am going to hell. But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff.”

By putting herself out there for the world to see, Taylor Swift needs to realize she will have people criticize her. I’m not saying that she should be bashed or anything, but I certainly do not think Fey and Poehler insulted her in any way.  As I said before, it was their job to crack jokes at the award show. They made more offensive jokes about other people, such as James Cameron, in their opening monologue. Taylor Swift just needs to calm down and write a song about her feelings or something and let Tina Fey and Amy Poehler be the funny women that they are.

Have a great rest of the week and thanks for reading :)

Roosevelt Jones and Kam Woods Are My Homeboys

Happy Wednesday to all! Do you remember that one time where I sat down with Roosevelt Jones and Kameron Woods and told them jokes for about 10 minutes? Me too.

So the other night, Monday to be exact, I was in Atherton eating dinner. I say time and time again how I am a people watcher, and Atherton is where my people watching skills come alive. There are so many people, and I can watch to my heart’s content. Across the room, I saw Roosevelt Jones and Kameron Woods enter. For those of you that don’t know, they are both players for Butler’s stupendous basketball team. Anyone who goes to Butler realizes that the basketball players are known by most people on campus because they are so recognizable. Anyhoo, I saw the duo enter and sit down at a table. For whatever reason, I had the thought that it would be fun to go and sit with them and chat.

I walked up to their table, pulled out a chair, and said, “Hey, do you guys want to hear some jokes?” They both stared at me like I had lobsters crawling out of my ears, but I had already sat down, so there was no turning back. I asked them again and Roosevelt Jones said yes.

The look on Jones' face when I sat down.

I introduced myself and then started with the jokes. Kameron was hunched over in his chair he was laughing so hard, and just uncontrollably giggled the whole time. The only interaction we really had was when I asked him if he was okay because I legitimately thought he was going to choke while he was laughing. Roosevelt smiled and giggled, but he was looking at me like, “Who is this crazy girl and what is she doing with her life?” After I told about five jokes, I asked them if they had any. They both said no, so I explained to them that I like to tell jokes to strangers. I thanked them for putting up with my insanity and wished them a lovely evening, and I casually sauntered away.

Kam's reaction to my hilarity.

Thinking back on it, the whole thing was just very casual for me, which is strange because approaching two complete strangers and sitting down with them is not casual. Every time I see them now, I will feel obligated to tell them a joke so we establish a relationship and they know me as the Crazy Joke Girl. I’m also contemplating yelling jokes at them from the sidelines at the next basketball game, but that might be a bit much.

Have a great week and thanks for reading :)

Happy Wednesday to all! The first month of 2013 is almost over, and that means that most people’s New Year’s resolutions are being forgotten. As I mentioned in my video about New Year’s resolutions, my resolution is to be more impulsive. Part of being impulsive goes along with me doing things that are bold and out of my comfort zone. From this resolution, my friend Hannah and I decided to embark on the journey that is Bold Move January (hashtag that if you’d like.)

#BoldMoveJanuary is a constant reminder to myself that I need to be more bold and act on impulses that I have. I am a fairly introverted person, so I am often uncomfortable casually talking to someone I don’t know. I prefer to sit back and observe everything rather than put myself out there and talk to someone new, but I wish I wasn’t like that all the time. Let me tell ya, #BoldMoveJanuary is changing me! My first bold move was to go through formal recruitment. Joining a sorority (I’m a Kappa Alpha Theta. Yippity yip yip!) was something I never thought I would do, and talking to new people all day, every day for a whole week during recruitment was way out of my comfort zone. After being forced to hold conversations with complete strangers in a casual way, I am much more willing to act on any impulse I have to make a new friend.

I have been complimenting strangers left and right, and there’s no stopping me now! As of today, I am going to start telling strangers jokes. My prime stranger target is people standing in line at Starbucks or Atherton, although if I am feeling extra bold, I might crack a few jokes on my way to class. I will keep you updated on how that goes. The potential to make people feel uncomfortable is vast.

So far my resolution has been a success and has brought me great joy. I have come to realize now that #BoldMoveJanuary is no longer just a month-long challenge, it is a way of life. Have a great rest of the week, and thanks for reading :)

Happy Friday everyone! I do apologize for my lack of vlogs lately. Finals kept me incredibly busy and now I have fallen ill, but I will start vlogging (with my brother Ben!!) soon!

Word on the street is that the world is supposed to end at midnight tonight. Although this bit of information may or may not be true, it has me thinking: we really should live as if the world were to end tomorrow. A lot of people throw around the phrase YOLO on a regular basis, including myself, making them sound like a jerk.  Although you might sound a bit asinine saying “YOLO”, the principle of YOLO is actually pretty good. We really do only live once, (a novel concept, I know) so we should make the most of our lives while we can. I’m not saying that you should go out and rob a bank because you only live once, but we should live our lives without regrets. If you have the impulse to tell a stranger you like their shoes, you compliment the living daylights out of their shoes! If you have always wanted to walk through a drive through, walk through that drive through like nobody’s business!

Don’t hold back from being yourself and doing things that make you your happiest. Don’t be afraid to be weird, silly, and goofy. Just be yourself and disregard what anyone else thinks. Do what makes you truly happy and don’t live a life in which you regret things you could have done. At the same time, don’t do things that make you happy if it means being a jerk-face to those around you. Also, don’t do things that put you or your friends in danger. The balance of YOLO takes a while to understand, but I have no doubt that you can comprehend the perfect balance.

Although I say YOLO on a regular basis (no shame), I am not a very impulsive person. If I ever do have an impulse, I over think it and convince myself to not act on it. I wish I was able to do more things just because I randomly decided to do it, rather than having the thought and then squelching the idea. I suppose I could change my ways, but sadly the world is ending tonight. If only I would have decided to fully embrace YOLO before my last day on earth. *Sigh*

Joke of the week: Everyone keeps talking about the end of the world like there’s no tomorrow!

Enjoy your last day on earth, and thanks for reading :)

Early Trick-Or-Treating

Happy weekend to all! Yesterday Schwitzer Hall had a trick or treat event for some kids to come through the building in their costumes and do some early trick-or-treating. Each of the units decorated the halls in an attempt to win the award for best decorated unit. My unit decorated our hallway in accordance with the Pixar movie Up. We put balloons everywhere and my roommate and I made the house from the movie out of paper and stuck it on the wall. Some of the other units were decorated like Harry Potter or Monsters Inc. We still don’t know who won, but we will find out very soon.

Yesterday evening the children came through. Three of my friends and I dressed up as Goldie-locks and the three bears (I was Papa Bear) and handed out candy to some adorable children! Not as many kids came by as we had anticipated, so I was forced to eat the extra candy. I wasn’t happy about it, but somebody had to do it! As I have said before, Halloween is probably my least favorite holiday because I eat ridiculous amounts of candy on a regular basis, and if I want to dress up like a crazy person I can do that any day of the week, but it was fun seeing all of the cute little kids come by.

Goldie-Locks and the Three Bears

Since I forgot a joke in last Friday’s post, here’s two for this week:

Who did the ghost take to the dance? His ghoul friend!

Why didn’t the skeleton go to the party? He had no body to dance with!

Have a great weekend and thanks for reading :)

Modern Family

As you may or may not know, season 4 of Modern Family premiered on Wednesday. Modern Family is a hilarious television show on ABC. It has won countless Emmys and has received rave reviews from critics.  I didn’t watch any of last season so I was afraid I would be out of the loop and really confused by jumping into another season, but I thoroughly enjoyed it with no confusion at all.

The season 4 premiere was very promising for another fun filled season! The most significant happenings were that Cam and Mitchell got a cat to fill the void of not being able to adopt another child, and Gloria revealed she is pregnant! I am looking forward to seeing Gloria and Jay’s baby when he or she is born. Like always, Phil Dunphy did not disappoint. He is by far my favorite character on the show. For me, the highlight of the episode was when Phil took Jay fishing for his birthday and caused him to fall into the water while blindfolded. Classic. I am looking forward to another hilarious season. If you have never watched Modern Family before, I would highly recommend it!!

Joke of the week: What did the baby corn say to the mom corn? Where’s the pop corn?

Happy Friday and thanks for reading :)

I Got Lost

This week, I am going to start out with a joke. Knock knock. Who’s there? Bekah. Bekah who? Bekah the stupid freshmen who decided to go for a wog (walk/jog) and got lost for an hour and a half and missed class.

So that was my morning yesterday! I decided to wake up and get some exercise. I don’t like going to the gym because I feel awkward and out of place, but I don’t mind exercising outside occasionally. I usually wog (walk/jog, a term I coined myself) for about half an hour and then call it a day. My roommate Ashni went on a run earlier in the week and told me a route she took that sounded good to me. I would wog for half an hour and then make it back in plenty of time to shower and go to my eleven o’clock class. I started off at 9:45 going the way she said (or so I thought), turning right at the stoplight she had described to me. After a while, I ended up on Michigan Street. I wasn’t exactly sure where I was, but I continued up the road for a while then decided to turn right onto a side street. I have only been in Indianapolis for one month now, and I already struggle with the most direct route to get somewhere, so you already know this is going to be a trip. I turned onto 54th street just because it was there and looked like a good street to turn on. I continued down and ended up in a neighborhood, Kessler Court or something like that. I ran around there for a little while, trying to find a way out. Then I came upon Kessler Street, which actually sounded familiar to me! I got excited and turned left. I had given up on jogging by now and just went for the walking portion of my wog. I went for a little while down Kessler then saw a sign for Michigan Street, which was exactly where I came from. I turned back around and started walking in the opposite direction. Finally I came upon two construction workers digging holes in someone’s yard. I asked for directions and they told me to continue as I was going until I ran into Illinois Street.

I had originally planned on making it back by 10:20 to shower and get ready for class, but at this point I had eliminated the plan to shower because it was 10:20. I continued down Kessler Street for a really long time, asking myself why I didn’t bring my phone. I know why, it is because I didn’t want to have to carry that, plus my iPod and keys, and I am dumb and thought it was a good idea to leave it behind. Anyway, I continued down Kessler until I finally saw Illinois. I turned on Illinois and started going for about half a mile. I saw a precious old lady in her yard gardening and I asked her for directions. She said to just keep going and I would run into shops and things where I could ask for more directions. She wasn’t much help, but she and I chatted about her son for a little bit, so I think she enjoyed my visit. I kept going on Illinois until I came across a bridge leading to the canal. By now I knew exactly where I was because my unit had walked this way a few weeks ago to get to the Flying Cupcake, which was just up the street. I knew from where I was that I still had 1.7 miles to go. Ahhgg. It was 11:00 by now so I obviously was missing class. I walked along the canal and made it back to my dorm safely. Along the way I did contemplate asking someone for a ride, but the idea freaked me out quite a bit. Although I missed class and was trekking all about the surrounding area, I did indeed learn one very important lesson from this experience: No one should ever exercise. Ever. Happy Friday and thanks for reading :)

Joke of the Week: What did the buffalo say to his son when he left for college? Bison.

Also, here is me and Ahsni’s pick up line, quote, and joke board today!

My Roommate!

Happy Friday everyone! For this post, I decided I am going to talk about my lovely roommate, Ashni. Like most incoming freshmen, I was very nervous before starting school here. One of the things I was most nervous about was who my roommate would be. I decided to have my roommate randomly chosen for me, so I was a little anxious to find out who I would be paired with. Would we get along? Would she stay up super late or get up super early and cause all kinds of ruckus?! Thankfully, my roommate and I get along swimmingly!

Our daily pick up line, quote, and joke.

Our daily pick up line, quote, and joke.

Ashni and I have become great friends these past few weeks and we hang out together a lot. We are often rather goofy, but it is always a great time. We speak in British accents on a regular basis (so often that we had to restrict ourselves from doing it for several days). We also have a daily pick up line, a daily quote, and a daily joke we write on the board outside our room. Basically, we think we are hilarious all of the time, and that’s mostly because we are :) Ashni is Indian and knows how to do henna tattoos and she dishes them out like it’s her job. I also went home with her over Labor Day weekend and we ate a bunch of Indian food. We had dhar bhat and it was delicious! I had never had Indian food before so it was a good time. I would say I definitely lucked out as far as roommates go.
