Music Monday: Passenger

Happy Music Monday, all! As you may or may not know, this week is Peace Week. When I think of peace, I think of calm. Since it is Music Monday, let’s talk about calm music. Let’s talk about Passenger.

Passenger (his real name is Mike Rosenberg) is a one man Indie-pop/folk band from Brighton, England. Passenger originally consisted of Rosenberg and four band mates, but they broke up in 2007 after only recording one album. After the breakup, Rosenberg decided to keep the name “Passenger” and pursue a solo career.

Passenger released his first solo album, Wide Eyes Blind Love, in 2009, and has since released Flight of the Crow, and All the Little Lights. Passenger has an incredibly unique voice, and all of his music is pretty mellow. His lyrics are also really good! His most popular song is “Let Her Go,” and he has also recorded a mash-up of “No Diggity” and “Thrift Shop” with Ed Sheeran. It is rockin’. My favorite song of his is “I Hate” because it is about all of the dumb things that people do. Not very peaceful, but it is very clever.

Music Monday: Ed Sheeran in Concert

Happy Music Monday, friends! As I mentioned in my video from Friday, I saw Ed Sheeran this weekend. I have mentioned Ed Sheeran many a times before in my blog, so obviously I am a big fan. The concert was stupendous and I already want to see him again.

He had two openers: Foy Vance and the Rizzle Kicks. Foy Vance was from Ireland, and he reminded me a bit of James Morrison. He had a very soulful voice and I really enjoyed his music. Rizzle Kicks, a hip hop duo from Brighton, England, came on next. I don’t usually like rap music too much, but I loved these guys. They were super fun, and their song “Mama Do the Hump” was incredibly catchy.

Ed Sheeran came on shortly after and he was fanfrickintastic! He has an incredibly flawless voice and sings like an angel, but he can also rock out a bit. When he was singing “You Need Me Man I Don’t Need You,” it turned into a ten minute song in which he broke out into “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore. I freaked the heck out when he started singing “Thrift Shop” because I am borderline obsessed with that song, making that my favorite moment of the concert. My other favorite moment was when he sang “Wake Me Up.” This is my favorite song by him, and he told the audience he wrote and recorded it when he was drunk, which kind of makes me like it more. Here’s a video I took of the beginning of “Wake Me Up,” and here is a link to a recording of when he sings Thrift Shop (it comes at the two minute mark!). The sound on my recording of that song was quite jank, so I thought a different video would do it justice.

Music Monday: Selena and JBiebs and Give Me Love

Happy Music Monday everyone! As I am sure you have all heard, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez broke up. After dating for nearly two years, the young couple called it quits due to their busy schedules. Unfortunately for Justin, he recently did an interview with Oprah in which he talks about his love for Selena. The interview is supposed to air November 25th, clearly several weeks after the break up has happened. Awkward.

In other music related business, Ed Sheeran’s final music video for his album, +, debuted last week. The video is for his song “Give Me Love” (Selena and Justin could have used some love, am I right?!) I have mentioned Ed Sheeran in many of my blogs before, so obviously I am a huge fan. This song is incredible and the video is good too! All of his videos are kind of dark and match the story of the song in a creative way, making them incredibly intriguing! I will put the video below. Music Monday: Little Things

Happy Monday everyone! As we know, this past weekend was Family Weekend. My mother and father came and it was wonderful seeing them! We went out to eat several times as well, so it was splendid not having to eat Atherton food like usual. The most exciting event of the weekend by far was discovering that there is a camel on campus! There was a campus wide lock down yesterday due to a robbery suspect running through campus. In one of the alert now messages, BUPD accidentally said the suspect was headed to the camel. One can only assume they meant canal. Either way, Butler got itself a new fury friend. The camel even has its own Twitter!

Keeping in the spirit of Music Monday, let’s just take a minute and talk about One Direction’s “Little Things” music video. One Direction’s newest single “Little Things” came out last weekish and it is SO good! Ed Sheeran wrote it, so then again, how could it not be?! I am not saying the song is good just because I am a typical teenage girl who is in love with One Direction. The song is really pretty and all of their voices sound really solid. The music video is quite nice as well. I am saying the video is good just because I am a typical teenage girl who is in love with One Direction. They are all so beautiful and I just can’t get over it. The black and white camera lens, coupled with the soft lighting, the candid shots of them laughing, and their angelic voices is too perfect to bear. *Swoon* And their hair. I just can’t get over their hair. That is enough fangirling for one day so I will leave you with the video. Have a wonderful week and thanks for reading :)

Music Monday: Ed Sheeran

Happy Monday to all! As I said last week, I am going to make every Monday, Music Monday. My friends and I in high school started sending each other music each Monday to make one of the dullest days of the week a bit more special. Since we all liked it so much, I thought I would share the idea of Music Monday with you!

This week I am going to recommend some music by Ed Sheeran. I mentioned him last week in my post about One Direction, but I thought he deserved a post all to himself. Ed Sheeran is a British musician who has released eight extended plays and one album. His debut album, +, has done incredibly well in England, and his single The A Team has begun to be played on the radio here in the United States. I downloaded his album in the early summer and I am still obsessed. His voice and lyrics are fabulous and you should definitely check him out. One Direction

It is no secret that One Direction Infection has taken over and has been festering in the hearts of teenage girls all over the world. This “infection” is due to the good looks, sweet lyrics, and gravity-defying hair of the members of the British boy band, One Direction. For those of you that don’t know who One Direction is (you must live under a rock), they are an ever so popular British boy band that was formed via The X Factor back in 2010. Recently, One Direction’s super star status has been spread throughout the United States and has produced a slew of shrieking teenage fans known as the Directioners.

A dear friend of mine has been a Directioner for quite some time now, spewing countless facts about the members of the band at the drop of a hat, and I initially judged her for it. The boys, Liam, Louis, Zayn, Harry, and Niall, range from the ages of 18-20, and are incredibly adorable and charming (with those British accents, how could they not be?!), so I understood, but did not agree with, the appeal. Upon actually listening to some of their songs, watching interviews, and listening to my friend share 1D facts, I have succumbed to the fandom. I would not consider myself a full out Directioner, but I am definitely becoming a fan.

The boys have incredibly catchy songs, such as their breakout singles What Makes You Beautiful and One Thing. Besides having a solid hand at producing catchy pop jingles, the band can whip out a pretty good ballad. Their song Moments, written by VH1 You Ought to Know Artist Ed Sheeran, is an incredibly touching song about a boy’s struggles after his girlfriend passes away.  Not only does the song have sweet lyrics, but all of the boys sound really good! By creating tunes that show various aspects of the band’s abilities, 1D can only grow stronger as a band and gain more screaming fans. If you have heard their songs but are not a Directioner yet, you can stop pretending to think they are overrated and stupid. It is only a matter of time until you are infected.
