Happy Monday everyone! If you’re in the Indianapolis area, or anywhere else covered in inches upon inches of snow, I hope you are staying warm and safe amidst this crazy weather. The other day before this massive snowstorm hit, I saw the movie Frozen, and it was FANTASTIC.
In Disney’s 53rd animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics Series, they freaking nail it. The film is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale The Snow Queen, and follows the journey of a princess who sets out to find her sister whose icy magical powers trapped the kingdom in a perpetual winter. In classic Disney fashion, there are quite a few musical numbers. With Idina Menzel as the ice queen Elsa, you know there is going to be some great singing. One of my favorite scenes was when Elsa is building her ice castle and passionately sings about letting go. It’s golden I tell you. Another favorite aspect of the movie was princess Ana.
Ana is sassy, independent, smart, brave, and beautiful. She is everything I want in a Disney princess, and more. She sets out to find her sister and proves she can hold her own in defending herself and her traveling companions in the process. Best of all, towards the end of the movie when she is told she needs an act of true love to save the day and everyone assumes it means a kiss from her one true love, she forgets that possibility and saves the day herself. GIRL POWER. I would of course go into more detail, but I don’t want to ruin the ending. Olaf the talking magical snowman is also a great addition to the movie. He provides just the right amount of comic relief.
Basically this movie is the perfect combination of funny, smart, empowering, musical, magical, and romantic. It is fantastic and you need to go see it right now! Or wait until the weather is better, and then go see it.
Have a great week, stay warm, and thanks for reading
