Christmas Break: A Review

Happy Saturday to all. Since I am in a sorority and recruitment week starts soon, today marks the end of my Christmas break. Although my break was only two weeks long, it was a good time filled with strange encounters. Let’s discuss and review them, shall we? Please note: I will be scoring each experience on a scale of 1 to 5 chocolate bars; 1 being the worst, and 5 being the best.

Work: As I mentioned in a previous post, I worked a lot over break. Almost every day to be exact. Although it would have been nice to have some more down time, work was pretty good. I got to see my work BFF, Erma, and got hit on by a 17-year-old boy. Weird. Highlight: I used my store discount to buy some socks.

Rank: 3 out of 5 chocolate bars.

The eye doctor: I went to the eye doctor for my yearly check up over break. Super exciting, I know. My prescription remained the same and I ordered some more contacts, as well as a super cute pair of glasses (I know you were curious about how it turned out). Highlight: the ladies who work there didn’t talk about how great my brothers are like the usually do.

Rank: 4 out of 5 chocolate bars.

Christmas: Christmas was really nice because I just spent the day bumming around my house with my family. As I mentioned here, my younger brother recorded a cd of himself singing songs and gave that to me as a present, so that was something else. Also, I received a 4 foot by 5 foot canvas from the rents. SCORE!

Rank: 5 out of 5 chocolate bars.

Friend time: I love spending time with my friends when I’m at home, but I always feel like the initial encounter when we’re all together is a tad awkward because we haven’t fallen back into our groove yet. Since I saw all of my buds three weeks ago at Thanksgiving, the awkwardness was not there. Also, my friend Alexis and I finally filmed a vlog together, and I made a few new friends. Yippie skippie!

Rank: 5 out of 5 chocolate bars.

Spending time in coffee shops: I spent a lot of time in coffee shops over break and actively tried to fulfill my bucket list goal of working in one by applying to hopefully work at one over the summer. I sipped some joe, people watched, worked on my memoir, and surfed the net. Ahhh, paradise.

Rank: 5 out of 5.

My friends and I on New Year's.

New Year’s Eve: Usually I feel like New Year’s Eve is super anticlimactic, but this year was so fun. My friends and I went to a party together, and there were a lot of people there I hadn’t met before, so of course I made some new friends. I also had a solo dance party for a while, which is Classic Bekah. The highlight of the evening, however, was when an 18-year-old boy told me how philosophical and punk rock he was, and then repeatedly asked if he could kiss me, despite me abruptly power walking away from him and consistently saying no. As weird as that was, it just made sense that something slightly uncomfortable would happen to me. My friends and I all got a good laugh out of it, and luckily I made it out without a smooch.

Rank: 5 out of 5 chocolate bars.

Shaving my legs: As most of my friends know, I hate shaving my legs. It’s not really a feminist thing, but more of a I’m lazy thing. I shaved my legs for the first time in a long time (too much info? #SorryNotSorry), and I don’t feel too good about it. I shaved them because my legs will likely be exposed poking out of dresses and skirts during recruitment week, but it just felt really wrong.

Rank: 1 out of 5 chocolate bars.

As you can see, my Christmas break got pretty crazy. The main thing I learned from being home is that whether I want to or not, I seem to have a knack for unwillingly attracting high school boys. Can I add that to my resumé?

Have a great weekend and thanks for reading :)
