Pretty Little Liars

If you have not seen the finale episode of Pretty Little Liars that premiered on Tuesday (August 28th) stop reading right now!!! I repeat, if you have not seen the finale episode of Pretty Little Liars, stop reading NOW!

As you may have guessed, this post is dedicated to the finale episode of Pretty Little Liars, also known as “The BetrAyal”. The episode opens with the girls standing at a crime scene where Hanna is hysterically crying and Emily is being questioned by the police. Flash back to two days earlier where the trial for Maya St. Germain’s (Emily’s deceased ex-girlfriend) murder is going on. To escape from the media and craziness that accompanies the trial, Emily and Maya’s cousin Nate go to an inn outside of Rosewood. While Emily is away, the three other girls receive a text from A telling them to meet at Ali’s grave. At the inn, Emily discovers that Maya’s cousin Nate is actually Linden James, Maya’s stalker and killer. Linden tells Emily he is going to take something precious away from her just like Emily took Maya away from him. He reveals that Paige (Emily’s girlfriend) is in the closet with her limbs tied. Emily runs away to a sufficiently eerie lighthouse where Nate/Linden corners her with a knife. They fight for several intense minutes and Emily stabs him in self-defense, killing him. Caleb, who tagged along with the other girls at Ali’s grave, suspected that something was amiss with Emily so he set out to find her. Right after Emily stabs Nate/Linden, Caleb comes up to the lighthouse and comforts Emily, right after setting down his gun. Seconds later, a gunshot goes off. Fast forward to the opening scene and here we are again with Hanna crying. The girls then go to the hospital to wait while Caleb has surgery. In one of the final scenes of the episode, Mona is shown sneaking back into the asylum with her fellow A counterpart standing in front of her. This A figure turns to face the camera and it is revealed to be Toby! FREAKOUT! The next episode is scheduled to air on October 23rd.

I was most shocked by learning that Nate was not really Maya’s cousin, but her killer. Although it was a great plot twist, I thought it was a bit much how Paige was in the closet and Nate/Linden was going to slit her throat in front of Emily. It seemed a little unrealistic, but then again so was Mona effortlessly sneaking out of Radley. Caleb proved himself yet again to be my favorite of the Pretty Little Liars boys by accompanying the girls to the cemetery, and by then coming to Emily’s rescue. The only issue I have with Caleb is that he and Hanna have the same haircut and it freaks me out a little.

Now onto the most pressing issue of the episode: Toby being revealed as part of the A team. The reveal of Toby as a part of A was done incredibly well because it literally felt like a slap in the face- nobody saw it coming. I think that Toby is working as a double agent. He told Spencer that he was going to get to the bottom of all of her shenanigans himself, and I believe he is doing just that. One could argue however, that by going undercover he would still have to do Mona’s bidding and harm the girls, which he wouldn’t want to do if he truly loved Spencer. Only time will tell. What did you all think of the episode? Are you anxiously awaiting the October premiere? Please let me know in the comments below! Thanks for reading :)
