Hey, I'm Austin, and I'm currently a freshman here at Butler! I'm an ENTJ, a travel junkie, and an entrepreneur. I'm an Alpha Kappa Psi brother & True Blue Mentor, as well as being a part of Entrepreneurship & Innovation club, the volunteer center, and a student production crew member at the brand new Schrott Center. I also am a part of the student-run business, the Butler Bed Buddy. I'm always looking for something to get involved with on campus as well. Go Dawgs!

The Only Boy Left

Well, it is now Tuesday, January 8th, and I am pretty much the only soul in East Tennessee that has yet to leave for school once again, meaning I don’t really have anyone to hang out with because all of my friends are either busy at school or work, and I don’t really have many things to do on my own.

I chose not to go through recruitment, or rush, which is starting tomorrow back at Butler. Basically all of my friends are rushing, so I’ll probably be one of the few independents, or non-Greek affiliated students that I am pretty much friends with!

While I will be home for the next few days, I plan on catching up on movies I have yet to watch, seeing family members one last time, and watch the rest of Parks and Recreation. I’m almost caught up for the new season!

The (nonexistent) Tennessee Blizzard

Of course Christmas was a few days ago, but I feel like I’m missing out because all of my fellow bloggers live in the Midwest and I do not, meaning I do not get snow as often as they do….including this past blizzard in Indiana. All it’s been here in Tennessee is dark and dreary with no snow! This is fairly unusual because even last year, with how warm it was, it snowed.  This video shows an accurate representation of the difference between how it was snowing in Indiana and actually how it was in Tennessee.

Okay, so I did not shoot this video, but someone was actually on their way to Tennessee and videoed the difference from Indiana and Tennessee. Where I live in Knoxville, it didn’t even snow at all like the video shows so I wish I could have at least seen that!

I’m thinking I may just do my very first vlog in a few days showing what I received for Christmas, so be on the lookout for that!

A Very J. Crew Christmas

Well, well, well….the holiday season is upon us and today was my first day back at my summer/seasonal job back home at J. Crew! It was hectic, per usual, due to a good sale we were having (and I’m not just saying that) and all of the customers finishing up last-minute Christmas shopping.

I enjoy working at J. Crew not only because I get to help people buy awesome clothes, but I also get a discount on those awesome clothes! I get 30% off both at retail stores and factory stores as well. Most of the clothes I wear are from J. Crew, and I really wouldn’t have it any other way just because the clothes are really great and not a bad price with my discount!

Here’s one of my favorite songs from the band Discovery, which consists of both Rostam Batmanglij from Vampire Weekend and Wesley Miles from Ra Ra Riot. Personally, I think Discovery is better than both Vampire Weekend & Ra Ra Riot, but both members got really busy with both bands so there hasn’t been any new music released for quite some time….it’s quite disappointing.

What’ll Ya Have?

I’m home for winter break, now, and it feels SO good to be back! Yesterday was a really challenging day. I got up, ate breakfast with my roommate, and then he drove me to the airport (what a nice guy, right?) at 10am. That was the beginning to my long journey home, but it wasn’t necessarily horrible.

It started with my flight to Atlanta, which was at 11:25. It was on time and I ended up in Atlanta at around 12:40 which was INCREDIBLE. I, for one, do enjoy the frightening Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. It was incredibly busy, and it was my first flight where I actually had to wander around the airport to find baggage claim (I just used a carry-on when flying to D.C.) and I thought I was lost, but luckily I found my way around. My sister met me at the airport and picked me up, and we drove around Atlanta for awhile and ended up having lunch at The Varsity in downtown. It was my first time eating there, and it was pretty solid if I do say so myself! It’s the world’s largest drive in, and it has a lot of character, too.

Atlanta is probably right with Washington D.C. as my favorite city. It’s a close tie! But after we drove around for a while, she drove me to the bus station and I caught a Megabus to Knoxville, like I stated before. It’s so great to be back home – all I’ve done is lounge around and sleep all day to catch up because of the busy day I had yesterday! I fly back to Indy (& Butler) through Atlanta on the 12th, so I’m gonna try and make the most of my time I have while being home!
