As of today, I can officially announce that my student-run business, the Butler Bed Buddy, was approved for a $5,000 loan to continue onto the next semester of the Real Business Experience! As a part of the first semester of the Real Business Experience program, students are required to go in front of an actual funding panel that the College of Business brings in (which are usually alumni of the College of Business) in order to hear our proposition for our business. Businesses are allowed to ask for a maximum amount of a $5,000 loan for the second semester, which they put to use in continuing their businesses full force! All of the loans are funded through the College of Business and, of course, have to be repaid at the end of the semester.
I’m really happy to be a part of the Butler Bed Buddy team, which is modeled off of our mascot Butler Blue II. This class has truly shown me why I want to be a part of the College of Business as well as becoming a global entrepreneur in the future as well. My business will be using the $5,000 loan we were approved for in order to order more products to hopefully wholesale to local companies in order for them to sell the Butler Bed Buddy as well!

Sorry for the lack of blogging lately, guys! I’ve been so busy with a variety of things going on in my life at the moment, and a lot of it is actually to do with a student-run business that I helped start in my Real Business Experience (RBE) course. Our business is known as the Butler Bed Buddy, and we sell a pillow / stuffed animal that is modeled after Butler Blue II. This is what our product looks like thus far:
The Butler Bed Buddy!
The course is modeled for the university’s College of Business to loan students money to help start a business, with the goal of being able to pay off the loan & make a profit by the end of the semester. Our team has been able so far this semester to outsource our product to a manufacturer in China, build an entire website on our own, get licensing through the university to use an appropriate logo, and also more approvals to sell in certain areas on campus as well. It has taken a lot of effort, time, and work, but it’s definitely worth-while. This class has been the most hands-on class I’ve ever had, and I’ve enjoyed every aspect of it so far.
What the actual Butler Bed Buddy will look like.
The best part of the business thus far has been being able to provide a unique product to alumni, students, and families all across the United States. We’re currently selling the Butler Bed Buddy for 25$, and you can view our website above to see more information. The Butler Bed Buddy will also look like the image to the left – we were in between whether or not we were going to use the “B” or use the logo, but we got licensing to use the logo approved and that’s what we’re using. I’m going to blog about the class & business more throughout the semester, but if you’d like to follow up with us more you should like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for constant updates on our business! More to come soon!
Okay, I’ve been away from my computer for so long now that I haven’t been able to blog, and I sincerely apologize…but I am BACK! I want to say that this past week has been crazy, but that’s literally been every week of school for a few weeks now, so I guess I’m just now adjusting to the college lifestyle. Hah. But seriously, this past week I had 3 papers due, a pre-calculus exam, and I worked every day to make up hours. It’s been crazy.
I do just want to also blog about my past experience about coming back from home from Thanksgiving break last Sunday….I took the Megabus. It was not really that great of an experience, but luckily my friend Jensey and I took it together. It was a 7 hours trip from Nashville to Indy, connecting in Louisville. There was also a 30 minute break at a gas station that had a McDonald’s & Subway as well. It was a double-decker bus, which was interesting. But it got us to Indy on time, and I guess I would do it again if I had to…but thankfully my parents are picking me up for Winter Break!
The MegaBus we rode...it was traveling all the way to Chicago.
It was definitely an experience, that’s for sure!
Okay, EVERYONE knows about Psy‘s music video “Gagnam Style,” obviously, but that’s besides the point – I’m recently becoming obsessed with watching parodies of other people doing the Gagnam Style dance. I truly laugh and smile like no other when watching these parodies – they’re some of the best parodies I’ve ever seen of anything.
My favorite one, by far, is MIT’s parody of it. It’s hysterical!
My next favorite, by far, is the University of Oregon Duck parody of it.
These seriously are two of the funniest parodies I could find, but I’m SURE I’ll find more. I’m thinking that I’m going to have to try and get others on board to do a Butler parody of it, especially with basketball season coming up it’d be great to incorporate that into it. Who’s with me?
First and foremost- HAPPY FRIDAY! I’m SO thankful it’s finally Friday, because I had a rough, yet interesting week. From exams to papers and assignment due left and right, I cannot wait to just relax…which won’t happen until Sunday. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though, because I have my “Get Real” event on Saturday.
The “Get Real” event is hosted by the College of Business for the introductory business course that all business majors take. Basically what it is, is an adventure course consisting of high-ropes and low-ropes courses used to create a team-bonding experience/atmosphere. We have to do it as a class because we’re required to write a business plan by the end of the semester, therefore we are going to see how well we work together as a team. I enjoy my team members and I’m very interested to see as to how well we work together in a physical environment. It’ll be interesting.
After the event, I’m going with a bunch of friends on Saturday night to a “Sk80’s” event that SGA is hosting where everyone is supposed to dress up in 80’s clothing and we’re going roller skating. It’s going to be an interesting night considering I don’t own a single item of clothing that looks vintage; I’m more into it because my friends are dressing up and I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
P.s. The title is just a Lana Del Rey lyric, nothing in particular. She’s the top played artist on my iTunes right now…haha. Check her out, I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Lana Del Rey taking the top 4 spots, actually.
