First and foremost- HAPPY FRIDAY! I’m SO thankful it’s finally Friday, because I had a rough, yet interesting week. From exams to papers and assignment due left and right, I cannot wait to just relax…which won’t happen until Sunday. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though, because I have my “Get Real” event on Saturday.
The “Get Real” event is hosted by the College of Business for the introductory business course that all business majors take. Basically what it is, is an adventure course consisting of high-ropes and low-ropes courses used to create a team-bonding experience/atmosphere. We have to do it as a class because we’re required to write a business plan by the end of the semester, therefore we are going to see how well we work together as a team. I enjoy my team members and I’m very interested to see as to how well we work together in a physical environment. It’ll be interesting.
After the event, I’m going with a bunch of friends on Saturday night to a “Sk80’s” event that SGA is hosting where everyone is supposed to dress up in 80’s clothing and we’re going roller skating. It’s going to be an interesting night considering I don’t own a single item of clothing that looks vintage; I’m more into it because my friends are dressing up and I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
P.s. The title is just a Lana Del Rey lyric, nothing in particular. She’s the top played artist on my iTunes right now…haha. Check her out, I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Lana Del Rey taking the top 4 spots, actually.

Like Andre posted before, The Price is Right is coming to Butler next month, and I couldn’t be any more EXCITED! It’s cheesy, but The Price is Right brings back so many good memories of when I was back home and how my grandmother and I always talked about how we were going to be on the show one day. Although she’s back in Tennessee and won’t be able to come up for it, my friends and I got floor seats courtesy of SGA! I certainly plan on calling her while the show is going on so she knows what exactly is happening, even if she is watching!
A group of friends and I plan on coordinating what we’re wearing, which will probably be just jeans and shirts we got from welcome week that say B(U) Welcome Week 2012 just so we all match. Look for us in the crowd; there will be about 10 of us, and I’m sure we’ll be going crazy even if we don’t get picked to be a part of one of the games!
Call me crazy, but before I made it to Butler, I only jokingly ever threw around the idea of “Going Greek.” I didn’t ever think of Greek life as an opportunity for me, but once I got here, my opinions changed pretty quickly. It was clear when I got on campus that Greek life had pretty wide influence on campus, and not necessarily just social fraternities and sororities. There are also fraternities that deal with different majors/colleges on campus, including Alpha Kappa Psi, which I had mentioned before is the professional business fraternity. There’s really a “fraternity” for different perspectives around campus. Some are based on majors, including education, pharmacy, and performing arts, and there are also several honorary and service fraternities. Because these “fraternities” aren’t necessarily social fraternities, they aren’t just for men; women can join sever of them, too!
Today I received an email from a guy that’s a part of the Phi Delta Theta chapter at Butler, and I set up an interest meeting tomorrow with him and he’s also going to give me a house tour in order for me to see what Phi Delta Theta is truly about. I’m pretty excited to get to know more about the fraternity and the brothers that are a part of the organization.
I also received a bid from Alpha Kappa Psi today! I made it past the first interview, which was yesterday, and now I get to continue on with rush and get to know more about this fraternity, too. Because Alpha Kappa Psi isn’t a part of the same type of fraternity organization, I’m also allowed the opportunity to get to know and potentially rush to be a part of Phi Delta Theta. It all might sound confusing (because it was at first..trust me), but I’m starting to get used to it. I can’t wait to find out more about both fraternities, and I will definitely post more about them when I find more out!
My friend Jensey and I at Sky Zone!
Thanks for reading! Here’s a picture of my friend Jensey and I at Sky Zone last week, which was a blast! And also, here’s a song that’s been stuck in my head lately. Enjoy!

As I’m sitting in Gallahue Hall (the science building on campus) studying for my urban ecology and algebra exams that are coming up, the sun started to set. It was the first time I’ve actually watched the sun go down, and Gallahue is one of the best spots to watch it because it has so much natural lighting (most of the buildings on campus do though). Anyways, as the sun was going down I started reminiscing on times back home and the memories I’ve made at Butler so far.
The Sunset at Gallahue Hall
I truly feel at home here, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for me. It’s hard to think that I’ve been in college a month already, and let me tell you-it’s been the best month of my life. Really what I’m trying to say is, is that choosing Butler has been the best decision I’ve ever made. Butler has so much to offer- over 140 student organizations, 15 fraternities and sororities, and an abundance of intramural/club sports. At the moment I’m really interested in joining Alpha Kappa Psi, Phi Delta Theta, College Democrats, and probably playing intramural table tennis. I still have plenty of time to decide, and that’s one of the best things about being in college.
This past weekend was great. I went to both Sky Zone and Fiesta Indianapolis, but I’ll save blogging about both events for next time. Thanks for reading, and I hope everyone has a great week!

It’s FRIDAY! I love Friday’s on campus. Everyone’s incredibly happy that it’s the weekend, and there’s always a bunch of stuff going on. Besides studying for a few exams I have next week, this weekend I plan on really just relaxing. Tonight I’m going on a trip to Sky Zone that SGA, which is an indoor trampoline park. I’ve never been to anything like it, so I’m really excited to check it out. If you don’t know what Sky Zone is, here’s a video that will give you a good idea what about 70 college students will be doing tonight!
Other than that, I will be studying for both my Urban Ecology and Algebra exams all day Saturday that I have on Monday and Tuesday. I’m not necessarily sure what to expect, but I’m going to study hard and try my best for an A! I might take a break and venture off campus to visit Irish Fest since SGA is also sponsoring a shuttle to both that and Fiesta Indianapolis tomorrow.
Happy Friday, all!

Actually, today isn’t necessarily the day of anything significant. In fact, it’s quite the opposite (for myself at least). First and foremost, I want to reintroduce myself and let you know a little more about who I am, and who I’ve become in the last two weeks alone, before I go on about my day. My name’s Austin, and I’m a freshman in the College of Business as a Business Exploratory major until the newest major, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, is approved by the university. I like to take pictures in my spare time, and I’m usually aimlessly wandering around campus looking for new places to study. So far I’ve really enjoyed studying in the Ruth Lilly Science Library, which is tucked away in the corner of the Holcomb Building. It has so much natural lighting, as you can see here.
A cloudy view during my study session at the Ruth Lilly Science Library yesterday.
Anyways, like I said earlier in my post, today isn’t necessarily the day for anything in particular. Today was more over a lazy day for me because it’s the first day since I moved on campus that I didn’t have a single meeting to attend! I’ve also been really productive. I’ve done some homework at the library (of course), went to the Castleton Square Mall with a few friends, and I’m now finishing up some late-night laundry while finishing the rest of my homework. It’s been a good night!
Looks like my laundry’s finished, but I’m gonna leave you guys with another song to celebrate Butlerpalooza…which is TOMORROW! For those of you who don’t know, Butlerpalooza is an annual music festival that SGA helps put on and both Smash Mouth AND Chiddy Bang are performing! I couldn’t be even more excited for the show! Enjoy!
